A Symbol Of Peace In Brockton Bay (Worm/My Hero Academia) [INDEFINITE HIATUS]

Ah so I was right about the container

[X] Continue sitting on the dumpster.

Even a prepaid one with cash?
To my knowledge, mobile phones are required to be able to dial emergency services regardless of having a SIM card or not, so just buying a cheap piece of junk and not bothering with a plan should work if you're so hung up on your anonymity. Granted, that has its own problems, but it's still a viable option.

-[X] I am ill prepared for heroing at the moment, I'm afraid. I was just out for a stroll when I heard your call for help, and of course I could not in good conscience leave you in distress.
-[X] If she doesn't have a cell phone or something, then resort to flipping the dumpster on it's side so that the lid is up against the wall and go looking for anyone on the street that could call it in.

Changing my vote to:

[X] Continue sitting on the dumpster.

Voting is now closed!

Continuing to sit on the dumpster and asking her to phone the police and an ambulance wins.

Keeping The Trash Where It Belongs
... I probably shouldn't be doing this. This is my quest, not my virtual pillow to scream into in some vain attempt at achieving emotional release, but fuck it, I'm a whiny bitch around this time of year.

Some of you may have read the thread about analysis on original quests on SV, or at least be aware of it from the little notification in the bottom left of your screen. I read through it, and I realised that I, a quest writer, didn't understand stuff that seemed like the goddamn basics of writing a quest. More to the point, it made me look at exactly what I've been doing so far with this, and realised that this quest's 'mechanics,' which seemed to be lauded as the absolute lynchpin of a good quest, are...

Well, they're nonexistent. What is there? Dice rolls and glorified shorthand? There's no EXP, there's no health system, and I don't really have plans for them simply because I don't think I could do it. I'm shit with things like that. Keeping track of stuff, creating a system, actually making that work...

The more I think about it, the more I feel like I'm just... not good at this.

At QMing. At writing.

Or, fuck, maybe I am, I don't fucking know, and I don't know why that bothers me so much.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like the only thing really keeping this quest afloat is my own stubbornness, because I've left a quest to die once before, and I fucking hated myself for it, to the point where I don't even feel comfortable going back onto Spacebattles anymore. I don't want to do that to myself again.

Ugh. Honestly, I'm not even sure what draws people in about this quest. What hooks them. So, if you bothered reading through this, sate my curiosity. What hooked you, and what made you stay with it?

... Ok. Rant over. Have an update to make up for your wasted time.

You begin creating a mental list of all the things you need to do and come to the conclusion that most of them need a phone. Call the police, call an ambulance for the girl, keep the skinhead restrained, talk to the girl and keep her company while you wait... Eh, two out of four ain't bad. You pull your phone out of your pocket and begin to dial- oh wow you didn't realise how tiny the buttons on your phone are compared to the giant meaty stumps you call fingers now. There is no way you're going to dial 911 on that.
Really? Just use your thumbnail, that usually works for me.
... Shit.
You pocket it and begin thinking over your other options of contacting the authorities while keeping your mass firmly plonked onto the dumpster lid. Which isn't easy, because the thug's started yelling up a storm, flinging as many racial slurs and curses as he can, leaving you unable to hear yourself think. You nonchalantly kick the side of the dumpster in an attempt to get him to pipe down.
Oh my virgin ears. He's certainly... creative.
... Much better.

Your eyes settle on the girl, arms wrapped around herself, and an idea forms.

"Ah, excuse me? Miss?" You call out, grabbing her attention from the mouth of the alley, having stayed almost stock still while you dealt with her attacker. She focuses on you, and you beckon her over. She hesitates, but approaches you after a moment, just in time for the thug to start up his tirade again.
Please shut him up. Now.
As she gets closer to the angry shouting skinhead turned Oscar The Grouch ripoff, she starts to shrink in on herself, growing more and more hesitant by the second to approach you. You give the dumpster a 'gentle' kick and he stops to yell in pain as the thud echoes through the dumpster. Despite the cessation of verbal abuse, she's stopped again, uncertain if she wants to approach you.
Thank you.
You decide the best course of action is to gently encourage her over.

"Hey. He can't hurt you anymore. You're safe now, ok? Just keep walking, I promise I won't let him hurt you..." You gently murmur comforting things to her as they come to you, coaxing her over like you would a deer with a hand full of fruit. Eventually, she makes it over to you, and you give her a wide grin for her efforts. The blank look on her face doesn't change, and your smile becomes a tiny bit more strained for it.
She's doing surprisingly well. I wonder if she's in shock? Anyway, go on, ask her for her phone.
"Thank you. Ah, I'm sorry to inconvenience you , but do you happen to have a way to contact the police and an ambulance for yourself? My phone's dead." You explain, managing to sound appropriately embarrassed about your falsified predicament.
...Why? Why would you ask her to make the call?
She blinks, and reaches into her pocket, pulling out one of those fancy touchscreen phones. After a second of fiddling about with it, she puts it to her ear. A few moments later, you hear a tinny voice from the other side of the line.
-911, how may I direct your call?-
She pauses, going quiet for a second. She doesn't move, breathe, speak, do anything, really. It takes her a moment to start speaking, and when she does, her voice trembles, hoarse and shaky from overuse. "I-I need police a-at-"
"You fucking shitskinned bitch. When I get out of here, I'm gonna do a whole lot worse than just beat you. I'm gonna find out where you live, grab a can of gas, and burn the place to the ground, you hear me?! I'M GONNA FUCKING BURN YOU, YOU FUCKING APE!"
You notice the shine on her cheeks, fresh tears rolling down them once more. She begins sobbing again, thrusting the phone at you while saying something about not being able to do it as she shrinks away from the dumpster. You grab the phone without thinking and find yourself staring at it while she begins breaking down in earnest, her entire body shaking in panic.
-Ma'am? Are you still there?-

... Well, that happened. You have a girl having a panic attack, a Nazi in a dumpster, and an open line to 911.

What's the punchline?

[] Prioritise the call- As much as it breaks your heart, you need to leave the girl be for now, and explain to the operator what's happened and what you need. You'll just have to leave her to her own devices for the moment. You think she can manage for a couple of minutes on her own, and the help she'll get afterwards will be worth it.

[] Prioritise the girl- The operator can wait for a couple of minutes while you try to help the girl. Can't they? I mean, you can't just... leave her there, can you?

[] Write-in

Finally, a 1d20 roll.

As to what brought me to the story, uhh, I dunno! I know nothing about Boku no Hero Academia, but Greg as a protagonist is always worth a shot, and so far your writing is pretty good, and um... you're nice?

Eh, I do feel like an awful lot of updates are being spent dealing with this stupid alley. It's just not important enough to be going on and on and on.

What brought me here? Beyond it being Boko no Hero...I'm always interested in new GMs and their interesting ideas.

It's not too complicated and interests me, if you want my opinion

I was attracted to this quest simply because it was interesting and so far I like the style.

What brought me here? Its a worm alt quest not focused on Taylor and using a cross over with a rarely used but enjoyable series.
Why I say? Because of the characterisations so far. I loved our sister from as soon as she distracted our dad. All Might making comments from the sideline is fun. On top of that, the questors have seemed to genuinely care what is an IC vote for Greg, best exemplified by the discussion for whether we should intervene or not.
Would I like mechanics? I do enjoy trying to understand systems and I typically prove try and prove my understanding by breaking them. However, I also read, participate in and enjoy Maz quests. And as far as I can remember the only mechanic he really used was a random encounter table. Sure he had skills and traits, but they were open ended in what they actually meant and existed only to inform the narrative.

Anyway, seems like you've been working yourself up far too much over this. Have a hug rating and get yourself a cookie.
