A Strangeness In Glamsbury (Steampunk Eldritch Cultist Quest)

Sic Semper Tyrannis. New
You don't hesitate for more than a few moments.

"I accept your terms." You say. The Master gives a slight nod. "Patches shall be your collaborator from now on. Do not presume him to be your slave and you shall have a prosperous relationship." The Master says as he licks at his paw.

You immediately rack your brain for the new possibilities this new partnership represents. A sentient cat that can spy for you? Well, that is quite a boon indeed. It would make information gathering vastly easier and leave you free to pursue other things. You give the master a bow and thank him for his generosity, but he does not seem the type to enjoy sycophantic praises, so you lay it on as thinly as possible.

"If there is nothing else you wish to discuss.. then I shall bring you back." He says in a matter of fact tone. You do not have any questions as of now, so you close your eyes and-

When you open them again, you are back in the alley, but something feels.. different now. The oppressive drabness that crushed you previously is no longer present. You are welcome here now. Patches is in front of you, nipping at his collar persistently. You bend down and allow him to crawl up your arm.

A prosperous relationship indeed.

You have gained the trust of Patches! (And by extension, the Master of Cats!)
The Alleys welcome you!
Must take the mission
A Party To Remember soon.

And with your meeting with the cats over, you quietly plot your next steps.

Missions:
You may only select one:

-[] Sunset Serenity
The Sunset Serenity is an esteemed hotel located in District 44, it is famed for its pleasant staff, quality service, and lovely decor. After all you have been through, why not relax yourself for a bit? Oh, and do bring Albert along. The poor dear deserves it.

Alistair: Perhaps it'll do you some good to relax my dear. But do be careful, this hotel has teeth. If you do not pay attention, it shall swallow you whole and spit you out.

-A simple relaxing mission.. or is it?
-Encounter with ???? and ????
-Unlock actions to deal with ????

-[] A Party To Remember (Required in 3 turns)
Alistair has briefed you all about Zirfalides. An eldritch serpent with infinite heads who promises power to the hungry.. at the cost of them ending up as its meal. Worryingly enough however.. its worshippers seem to have reached an accord with it, and more worryingly, they're interested in you.

Alistair: Ah! That canny old serpent's followers are unpleasant indeed. I personally dislike being around them more than what is absolutely necessary, but perhaps this shall be an interesting proposition for you! Sneak deep within their rotten innards and try to find whatever information you can.

-Encounter with The Society of Serpents
-Gain access to funds. Lots and lots of them.

-[] Chase Down Hilgovir
Hilgovir escaped into the night. You cannot leave this be, can you? You must verify for yourself about his whereabouts.. and if necessary.. silence him permanently.

Alistair: I personally do not see the merit of chasing after this man.. but I won't question you if this is what you decide to do.

-Encounter with Hilgovir.
-He won't be happy to see you.
-Chance of throwing the Inspectorate off your trail.

-[] Reunited [REQUIREMENTS NOT MET!]
She has to be out there.. somewhere..

Evangeline: Mary.. are you there?

-???

-[] Day of Illumination (required in 3 turns)
The day of Illumination is here! The day where we all celebrate Tesrevan's glory! King Aldrich might make an appearance, but we might not know yet..

Alistair: Pah! Curse that golden impostor and his fellow sycophants! Our Emperor will rise!

-Chance of encounter with King Aldrich
-Chance of encounter with the Inspectorate
-Combat is unlikely.

AVAILABLE ACTIONS:
You have
four action points this turn.

[X] Gossip with your Associates

It is within your interest to keep yourself informed of everything that goes on in this wretched hive of scum and villainy. And one must not underestimate how well informed a bunch of nosy high society ladies can be when they are bored. (Chance to unlock a plotline)

[X] Engage in self improvement.
Self improvement is essential to reach higher places in life. If you are to advance anywhere, you must look inward first and foremost (Chance to train a random stat)

[X] Do research about your patron
The Emperor of a Thousand Colors, The Ruler of Canvases, The Thousand Stained Star. You know so little about it even after being introduced to The Society. This will not stand. (You know a bit more now, but it is not enough.)

[X] Take a stroll
You need a break. Forget all about your existential crises and all your doubts. Just take a walk. Smell the air around you. Go do it. Now. (???)

[X] Create a work of art for the Painted Monarch

It's not a hidden fact whatsoever that your antediluvian benefactor has a particular enjoyment for art. Perhaps if you do something to attract its attention.. it shall reward you handsomely. (Chance to gain a random boon)

[X] Study a spell with Alastair
What's the point in joining a cult if you're not gonna be able to gain illegal spells? Rectify this immediately. (Gain a minor or major spell depending on your degree of success.)

[X] Scout for new talent
You shall travel around the city to find an artist willing to die for the sake of their art. Literally. And then.. you shall judge if they are worthy or not. (Opportunity to gain a new recruit)

[X] Kidnap someone
You don't particularly like the idea of doing this.. but Alastair says it's necessary, and this might be an opportunity to get in his good graces. (Almost certain combat encounters.)

[X] Study rituals with Alastair
The curses of the Painted Emperor are potent and versatile. If you want to, you can truly master their craft. (Gain access to minor or major ritual depending on the degree of success)

[X] Improve your reputation
Attend parties. Perform charity for the poor. Ingratiate yourselves within the good grace of others. If you do so.. well, let's just say that the facade of a saint will do a lot to get you out of trouble. It's not like you don't enjoy the act itself anyway (Chance to gain a Scrap of Goodwill)

[X] Plan Name: Delightful Eggs Gent
[X] Mission
[X] Action 1
[X] Action 2
[X] Action 3
[X] Action 4

Emperor of Light New
[X] Study a Ritual With Alastair

You rolled: 8 (3,5) + 2 = 10
DC 10
Success!

Without any time to waste, you immediately get to work studying the rituals of your lord. Alastair happily chatters away, and for the most part you cannot truly understand what he is talking about.. but you notice something peculiar.

Amidst the tomes, there lies something.. important. A ritual available where you can bind yourself to a portrait. You will never age.. and you cannot be killed no matter how grievous your injury, but if the portrait it destroyed you will immediately perish.

It seems very incredible, you think. You ask Alastair on what it is, and he is happy to show you.

New Action Unlocked!

[X] Improve your reputation

You rolled: 7 (2,5) + 4 = 11
DC 5/10/15
Moderate Success!

Oh, it's more of the usual.

You don't bother paying attention to any of it. The routines become rote and easily captured, but it is done.

A Piece of Goodwill becomes An Ironclad Reputation!

[X] Study a spell with Alastair

You rolled: 4 (2,2) + 2 = 6
DC 10

Failure!

Unfortunately, your brain is positively fried from all the ritual study, so you don't learn much. You do however, make some progress, so it's not a day entirely wasted..

DC is reduced by half the next time you try to learn a spell!

[X] Scout for New Talent

You rolled: 9 (6,3) + 4 = 13
DC 15

Failure!

You try, and you try damned hard. You try to seek out artists, those who would follow the Emperor's doctrine, but you can't. The security is so tight and painful that you can barely leave your house without some Inspectorate Guard breathing down your neck. They don't suspect you due to your reputation, but you are unable to find anyone.

A shame.

And just like that, another week has passed and the day of Illumination draws near.

You immediately set to work. You check up on your etiquette to ensure that you haven't wavered a bit in the process of socializing. You prepare all the necessary tickets and invites so you may enter the celebrations at the royal palace. Getting caught not celebrating in the Palace is practically social suicide for any noble worth their salt. Everything is in order.. except for one thing.

You can't figure out what to wear.

What. To. Wear.

You comb through your dresser for anything appropriate, but you simply cannot find anything fitting for the occasion despite your truly exorbitant amounts of clothing. This is bad. The celebrations on the streets are getting louder day by day. How can you expect to show up not knowing what to wear?

You immediately take Albert out on a shopping trip (and if he is displeased he does not make it show) on all the high end clothing stores in the City. And after an entire day of pain and cancelled purchases, you have finally found the perfect outfit.

And it is beautiful.

Describe your dress below..
[X] Write-in (try to be faithful to 1920's fashion, but if you wanna go wild, do so! This is a fun vote. Have fun!)

When you are satisfied.. you make your way back home and try your best to admire your new outfit so you can distract yourself from the mounting dread.

[X] A dress made of gold lame in a V-pattern brocade, the bodice has gold fringe, and the skirt is triple fringed, the spaghetti straps and neckline are decorated with multiple shining blue, white, and red jewels. The heels are the same, though the stones form small butterfly-esque wings at the base of the heel. The hair accessory is a headband bedazzled with a few rows of the same colored stones, and on the left side is a long and curling strand of fringe, layered in a set of three, with each strip of fabric forming a small teardrop shape at the end inlaid with a stone.

I'll wait a little more.
