A Spark of Hope (Worm/Jumpchain)

Awww... I would much rather Lisa have become a fox girl. But a Cat is fine too.

Great chapter! God I love Celestial Forge stuff. Big, delicious, feastable on chapters! Perfect for relaxing to and putting on my text to speech to relax and enjoy.

Now... Taylor has become more and more aware of what she is facing.

Soon Cauldron is going to freak the fuck out. As will everyone else.

I often wondered why the Endbringers didn't explode in larger areas... but well, its plot I guess? Or some kind of restrained system? I dunno.

Taylor is going to be a very busy girl soon. Things are going to get... Escalated.

So I can't remember: has the Hebert Residence been decked out with home security features yet?

Either way the best outcome for the Travelers will be having them send Genesis in some tiny critter to scout the place and discover that Coil is full of shit, as there is no workshop in the basement of the Hebert's house.

i think hebert has used washu's perk to upgrade everything in the house the house aswell and i think that includes a home security system

Is there Macross tech in the document?

Macross Frontier introduces MDE warheads. Mass Dimension Eater. Comes in warhead sizes from 35mm auto cannon shells all the way up to planet busters. They either drop everything within the area of effect into a pure energy dimension or that particular part of space/time no longer exists.
Those should work on the Endbringers, right?

Thanks for the wonderful chapter!

I get this weird premonition that Coil, and the Travellers, will get an awakening. I wonder why... Preferably Coil getting screwed over by Taylor's blank power (as I assume her power blocks Coil's power in some way). I am always a fan of Coil getting screwed over.

Only spotted a few minor grammatical errors, but they did not impact the overall quality of the chapter (just a side note, I don't know if you do not see it or the text *magically* disappears, but there are words in the text which lack letters (such as "heroes" spelt as "heros").

I don't know how this would work, text or interlude wise, but I would enjoy seeing a PHO-interlude or some PHO bits as it could give an insight to both how the rest of the world believe and think about various events and they are, generally, enjoyable to read.

Thanks again for the chapter, stay safe and keep up the good work!

There are five bits of Macross tech [perks] in the Celestial Forge document:
"Woah now, Sonny Jim! You don't expect to fix that machine with your bare fingers, do you? Don't go anywhere without the equipment you need to make sure that tech keeps on trucking! A handy dandy set of tools to accommodate for maintaining Variable Fighters. This will make things easier if you want to keep things in shape or just want to poke around and see what's inside!"

While other kids were building tinker-toy creations, you were fiddling with your dad's car and doing a better job than him. By purchasing this, meddling with machines and OverTechnology is as easy as breathing for you. By getting your hands on something, you can easily figure out how it works and how to copy its inner workings, provided that it wasn't just bullshit magic. The more advanced something is, the harder it may be... but with time and effort, you just might succeed.

When people think of building things, they think of you. Provided you had the resources and the understanding of the technology, you could construct all manners of machines in a fourth of the time it would normally take. By yourself. You're no slouch with any of your tools either, wielding them with the precision of a machine with no loss of speed. Quality and a deadline? No problem.

So many moving parts, so many pieces to the puzzle. It's so... needless. The other tech teams are complete morons. That's why you've learned how to figure out the optimization of your complex machines like Veritechs. What parts you don't need, you find a way to do away with. What parts you DO need, you can use the now-extra space to improve and bolster their performance. Some will call you mad. But the only madness that will come from your work is the rage of your enemies and rivals.

It's one thing to have a weapon or vehicle of mass destruction, capable of rending an entire ground force or a squadron to shame. It's another to make it look so damn good your enemies would not dare get near it if they had a lick of sense. By purchasing this perk, you can design your equipment to look much more stylish and carry a 'theme' you prefer. This can range from the clothes you wear, to the weapons you wield, to even the vehicles you pilot into battle. It's all about style.

I hope this helps. This was all I could find in the Celestial Forge document, but I'm quite sure I did not miss any perks from Macross.

Those don't grant knowledge of tech. They'd allow her to cut down R&D and build times on items she gets her hands on and make the final result look good, but not build tech from the franchise.
Guess she'll have to figure something out on her own or see wait and see what her power gives her.

Finally!

Man, I want MC to get some more tech. Like, Alteran(SG1) tech. Planetary Annihilation Commander Tech, W40k Tech, Protoss Tech. stuff like that. Also, hope MC has some serious defenses built into her home/Lab/pocket space. Cuz jeez its gonna be lame if not.

Nice chapter, but the beginning is EXTREMELY jarring in its complete lack of contractions. That would be the first change I'd make in an editing pass. Otherwise looking forward to the next one!

Taking out the Endbringers without destroying the Sol system is either going to require getting the full Washu tech perk, or an intervention by the Star Trek patron saint of engineers, Scotty. That, or a few research perks that will let her figure out how to dump the explosions into unoccupied dimensions.

Obviously not a priority, but the Polyglot perk should allow Taylor to reconstruct a lot of dead languages that only have fragments left since she can become fluent from 'about an hour of reading'. It would be funny to see her at some point just casually drop a few hundred textbooks for ancient languages onto a forum for linguistic research nerds

I never liked Strike Witches, I found the the armored thighhighs ridiculous and the middleschool swimsuits as military uniforms even more stupid and the catgirl parts totaly useless even as fanservice. I genuinely feel like this SW stuff was unecessary.

Taylor is kind of lying left and right for no good reason on top of jumping the gun and escalating too far too fast(in my opinion). I understand she kind of freaked with the readings she got from the endbringers, but I feel like Taylor is doing things without fully understanding things(like in cannon) and with some of the body mod perks she know better than that.

Also, the Warehouse and body mods are taking time that could have been spent on the stuff that could have been achieved with the celestial forge, the body mods could have been achieved with the some tinkertech and the forge adds stuff to the workshop that I feel is better that whatever the warehouse stuff does.

All this being said, I will keep reading this because I actually really like this fic, Taylor decision making aside the only stuff I don't like are Strike Witches ones and I have read until now so I'm invested in following this until it ends or the author drops it.
Can you point out where in specific you think she was lying for no good reason?

The strike witches and cat soul perk were complete luck so that cant really be blamed not the story, if you want to dislike something dislike Strike Witches, not taylors use of t

I'll second this. A big part of the reason why I couldn't edit this as much as normal is because I spent forever cutting out unnecessary lies and stuff, workshopping how the chapter would have to be redirected to account for that. I'd love to know what I missed, as I'll be giving this a proper once over later when I have time.

Hey. What happens when Amy touches Lisa next? Does Shaper realise Lisa got her power removed without dying and try to end her before triggering some potential threat to the cycle protocol? Would blank even stop that if Taylor have it to Lisa? Has Lisa's power filed a report over the network and got all parahumans primed to kill her and Taylor as soon as a shard realises they are in range?

(EDUT: autocarrot - Ensurin) Enquiring minds want to know.

Yes, Taylor has fixed and replaced plenty around the house during Danny's first session with the Therapist/Psychologist.

Its likely that Taylor will just tell Lisa to wear clothing that covers her body so that Amy cant touch and scan her by accident.

My apologies, I did not meant insult to the author, it's just that I could never stand Strike Witches. And about Taylor lying, it just that i don't understand the need for the deception of just about everyone hero or villiain, I understand the need of secrecy, but to this extent?

Won't Amy want to find out deliberately though? She was already invited to watch the brain damage once. At that point refusing to let her see it again sounds like hiding evidence of a master effect being hidden in the treatment.

Or at least it will to Amy, who doesn't heal brains because she is scared a master effect will creep in if she tries.

I meant more the specifics of home security systems, but that seems a narrative detail on tinkering that this particular story is omitting in favor of softer approaches. Which is fine.

Really happy to see a warm fic where the answer is to get the hell off earth because that is the best answer to how messed up that world is. It's literally infested with alien parasites if you have the technology to get off the planet get humanity off the damn planet yet most worm fanfictions kill the endbringers and Zion like that won't have massive side effects.

Loving the the future God empresses of mankind vibe you got going here I eagerly look forward to her getting her star empire off the ground to find that most of this universe is a 40k lite verse full of entity's eager to rape your race out of being. Races that survived there Cycle and are rather insane for it. And million little horror shows left over bioweapons and robot army's from said cycles and elder races with scary as shit technology who don't care. In fact the entity's are some old ones kid pet project he forgot about.

Thanks for a great story.

No worries, I can see how cat girls and Strike Witches may be annoying.

I guess the secrecy is because of the very nature of worm, if you are outed you can assume your family and friends will die or be captured in short order. Keeping the moonbase and all secret is needed as if shards find out from Taylors POV it could lead to disaster. Or are you referring to something else?

Hmm interesting, ya mc may have to say Lisa is in another one of her bases and just not have them meet. Shard may not be able to scan Lisa as she would be under blank but the risk is not worth it.

Well, the thing that always squicked me about Strike Witches was that it was an unabashed Ecchi focused on middle school aged girls in panties. And everything else about it is just afterthought.

But I mean, the mechanics themselves are hardly any worse than most Magical Girl settings so if that's the context they're being used for then why not?

Plus mc already fixed that stuff, she can make full body strikers and her strikers dont look like jets, they look like clothes.
