A Song of Rogue Traders (Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader and A Song of Ice and Fire Crossover Quest)

Pretty sure the other guy also had dragons. Also, you know, who you make a Queen has nothing to do some foreigner who has goddamn lasguns.

There's no 'alternative candidate' for a Rogue Trader for them to pick.
Also the Rouge Trader is ultimately still an imperial, any disrespect is an instant lasgun to the face by the bodyguards or a public execution with no trial.

But female characters are harder to make work, most people are used to having male protagonists and in the Middle Ages female protagonists are at a disadvantage due to the predominant male culture, we would see all the time how they want to do something and others would have a lot of problems with them for being a woman.

I'm not the Thread Author but maybe DON'T assume that picking Female will automatically make it harder for the author to write.

Not really, the SV is notorious for following female protagonists in 67% of the quest when choice is presented.

Either way most of our political problems won't be on planet where we have near total air superiority unless we make planet fall just before the dance of the dragons, but within our own ship, were culture could be diffrent

Forget air superiority - we have orbital superiority. Even the dinkiest warp-capable transport can level a medieval city if it puts its mind to it (and quite a bit of countryside in the process -being a dinky transport it will have trouble actually hitting that city). And imperial culture norms are very much not shy about that kind if thing - indeed, levelling the sacond-largest city of a polity is considered a good start of negotiations and just the thing to be taken seriously!

-[x] Lucien Vesta Male

You are Lucian Vesta, of the grand and illustrious Vesta dynasty. You were not born into a life of privilege, but were spawned in the depths of one of the many Underhives on the Vesta capital world of Virganis. Your mother always told you that you were destined for great things, but she told you little of your father. You only learned the day that she died that he was Aurelius Vesta, the Rogue Trader that ruled the dominion in which you lived.

Aurelius had passed, and all of his potential heirs were fighting to make sure they came out on top. That was when it happened. An assassin's lasbolt, aimed for your head, hit her instead as she knocked you out of the way. As you cradled her in your arms, she told you the truth, and set you on the course of your destiny. You removed your rivals from the succession, using a combination of bribery, threats, and assassination, many of the early ones perpetrated by yourself. You clawed your way to the top, and that made it all the sweeter.

You have inherited the domain, and the retinue of your father. Hypothetically, they all serve you loyally. Looking to make a name for yourself, and solidify that loyalty, you have set out through a new passage in the Warp, to an unexplored star system.

"We are arriving in the system, Lord Captain." Your helmsman tells you. You feel the jolt as the ship seems to stretch endlessly, before snapping back like a rubber band, finding itself back in the Materium.

"Report." You state calmly.

"We have sustained minimal damage, Lord Captain." the dispassionate, slightly tinny sounding voice of your first officer responds. Julian Cade is a stout man, standing at roughly 6 foot 2, and is built like a slab of muscle. He wears clothing befitting the second of a rogue trader, but with somewhat obvious armor beneath, belaying his history as a former officer in the Imperial Guard. The most distinctive thing about him however, is his lower face. His jaw, and large portions of his neck, including his vocal cords, have been replaced with bionics, sleek chrome with gilded patterns.

"Excellent." You reply. "Inform Master Leibercant to begin scans."

With that, Cade nods to you, and the crew begins to burst into action, reviewing the status of the ship, and scanning the system.

"Bad news Lord Captain." Your High Factorum approaches. Lady Beneficia Asheim is a short, petite woman. Blonde hair, and blue eyes, she looks almost cherubic at first glance. Most who take her at face value end up with a knife between the ribs. "Seems like there was a minor accident in the aft cargo hold. We've lost most of the expected trade goods."

"Emperor's balls..." You mutter. "The manufacturing and extraction equipment survived, yes?"

"Yes." Beneficia nods. "It seems that our... guests from the Mechanicus have kept a watchful eye."

"Thank the emperor for small mercies." You say.

As Beneficia strides off, you cast a somewhat wary eye over your officers. You've been the head of the Vesta dynasty for about a year now, and you're well aware that not everyone is happy about that. Julian Cade is loyal, as far as you can tell. He was deeply loyal to your father, and swore on the Emperor's name to serve the dynasty faithfully until his dying breathe. So far he's given you no room to be distrustful.

Beneficia is another one you're sure about the loyalty of. She was one of the first people you interacted with on your quest for the throne, being a member of a cadet branch of the Vesta dynasty, and hypothetically in line for the seat. You made some promises to her, which you've kept, and she's backed you ever since, basically from the beginning. She even took a slug round to the leg for you, and still walks with a slight limp.

The only other loyal member of your officer corps is the Master of Whispers, Gallianus. A former street rat, and childhood friend, you found it prudent to install him into the role. He's not necessarily the most skilled schemer, but he is unquestionably loyal, and does an admirable job. He stands at average height, wearing a long black cassock with well-polished boots. His tousled brown hair comes down to form a pair of sideburns, which are awkwardly cut off by part of the mechanism for his right eye, which was once covered by a patch, but is now bionic.

Next you have your Master at Arms, Berillia Hanneman. A stout woman, slightly pudgy, she constantly has a slightly demented grin on her face. She is wearing a slightly too-tight set of flak armor, and has a small knife holstered at her side. She is nominally loyal, but you don't trust her. You're fairly certain she's slipping intelligence to one of the candidates for Rogue Trader that you managed to buy off, and she has a disturbing love of taking care of executions personally, and slowly.

You Master of Etherics is next. Reon of clan Fenhart is the latest scion of a long line of Etherics masters who have operated on your flagship, the Iron Ghost, for generations. He is a thin and spindly man, with atrophied muscles from the lack of gravity on board. You have however seen him move remarkably quick before. He is, you know, somewhat unhappy with your appointment as Rogue Trader. Though you get the sense that he'd be unhappy with anyone as Rogue Trader, as he seems to view himself as the unofficial leader of the ship, being responsible for most of its communications. You shall have to put him in his place, or endear him to you.

Then you have Magos Ultiman, who has taken on the role of the ship's Enginseer Prime, as the last one had an unfortunate accident, dying of natural causes after supporting a rival of yours. Tragic really. Magos Ultiman is the leader of the Explorators that you have with you. A towering man, standing at roughly seven feet tall, you are aware keenly that much of his flesh is completely withered away or removed, with his chest cavity being home to a number of mechandrite cables that are coiled up to resemble a barrel chest. This is nearly never visible however, as he usually is only seen as a large billowing red robe, with a small hood at the top. Mag Ultiman is by no means loyal to you. He is interested in the value this system can bring to his order. Though, you doubt he would simply break your agreement. He is smart enough to at least end things on good terms, but you cannot trust him to follow your orders without question.

Finally, there is Arch-Deacon Wilona Dressuul. A woman who appears to be in her late sixties, with greying hair and kindly grandmother-like eyes, in reality, she is a political animal, and a fanatic. The woman, who's age you are nowhere close to guessing, is as far as you can tell, on the cusp of becoming a Cardinal. She joined this mission on the understanding that while she would certainly preach the imperial truth (especially the parts of it talking about obeying the Rogue Trader with the Warrant of Trade from the Emperor himself) she would be primarily concerned with enriching her reputation. Whether that be through converting a new world, or by finding a lost relic, or by who knows what. The woman is canny, but also wildly intolerant, and is thus a bit of a wildcard. You doubt you could trust her with much, but you may be forced to...

A servant quickly approaches, handing you a Dataslate with the readings regarding the system, breaking you out of your thoughts. Your eyes flick over it.

The system, currently nameless, has 11 "planets" as well as a large asteroid belt. Eight of the planets are between the belt and the system's star, while three of them are beyond the belt. Of all the planets, one of them appears to be both habitable, and populated. A number of fairly primitive polities dot the planet, categorizing the world as a Feudal World by Imperial metrics. To get more information however, you'd have to move the ship closer.

Your first decision upon entering the new system. What would you like to do?

You have 8 Hero Units (counting yourself). Each Hero Unit has a score in each of the six stats (Diplomacy, Martial, Stewardship, Intrigue, Learning, and Prowess). Some Hero Units will also have a score in the seventh stat- Arcane.

Turns will progress in a simple manner. You may assign as many heroes to as many tasks as you like. Heroes that collaborate on a task add their scores together for the task. Some heroes are more reliable than others, and some will have specialties. I will post full character sheets later, when I have a bit more time, but for now, here's the basic statlines of all hero units, with their education traits and personality traits:

Characters on a mission will roll a d100, modified by a difficulty modifier, trying to roll under their stats. Allot heroes how you like.

Diplomacy Actions
[x] Chat with the Arch-Deacon
-Wilona is a canny woman, it's best to get her on our side more firmly.

[x] Chat with the Magos
-The Magos is inscrutable. Make sure he is somewhat... less so.

Martial Actions
None yet.

Stewardship Action
[x] Salvage the Cargo (Extreme)
-You might be able to salvage some of the cargo that was destroyed in transit...

Intrigue Actions
[x] Spy on Hanneman (Hard) (Cannot assign Hanneman)
-Hanneman is a leak, you're certain of it. But it's always good to have proof. After all, a leak can be turned into an asset...

[x] Rumors (Easy)
-Find rumors from the wider galaxy, or from within the ship.

Learning Actions
[x] Scan the habitable world (Normal)
-This world seems to have numerous polities and cultures on it, all ripe for the trading, converting, and conquering.

[x] Scan the Inner Planets (Easy)
-These worlds don't seem to have much of value at first glance, but perhaps you could find something unexpected.

[x] Scan the Outer Planets (Normal)
-The outer planets of the system appear to mostly be Gas Giants, with a couple of solid bodies as well. It may be useful to find a body to set up a base on, away from whatever primitive telescopes the locals have, to refuel ships and transfer goods without any potential for notice.

[x] Scan the Asteroid Belt (Hard)
-The Asteroid belt could have numerous minerals that would be of use in the manufacturing of goods. Unfortunately, many of said minerals are blocking your Auspex to a degree, requiring closer scans from shuttlecraft. Annoying.

Personal Actions
[x] Train a Skill (Easy)
- Write In the stat

[x] Attempt to Improve Education (Hard)

[X] Plan: Where is my cargo!!!
Diplomacy

-[x] Chat with the Arch-Deacon (Beneficia)
-[x] Chat with the Magos (Gallianus)
Stewardship
-[x] Salvage the Cargo (Extreme) (Lucian, Cade)
Intrigue
-[x] Rumors (Easy) (Hanneman)
Learning
-[x] Scan the Inner Planets (Easy) (Reon)
-[x] Scan the Outer Planets (Normal) (Ultiman)

-[x] Scan the habitable world (Normal) (Wilona)

A basic plan for now until we get more info about the characters and what easy, normal, hard and extreme DC mean in numbers.

Effects:

Julian Cade is a former commander in the Imperial Guard. Following a serious injury to his lower face and throat, he was given an honorable discharge by the general leading the campaign. Partly out of recognition of the man's bravery and skill, partly to ensure the guard didn't have to pay the medical bills for such an old soldier. Without a path forward, he was recruited by Aurelius Vesta, who paid for the expensive Augmetics systems that allow Cade to eat and speak yet again. In response, Julian Cade has sworn a vow to the Emperor to serve the Rogue Trader of the house of Vesta for the rest of his days.

Effects:

Lady Beneficia Asheim is the High Factorum of the Vesta dynasty. Once a claimant to it's throne, she acquiesced early on in the conflicts for it, agreeing to support Lucian in exchange for some concessions. One of these concessions was an appointment to high office, and so High Factorum it is. As the person responsible for making a profit for the Rogue Trader, she is a shrewd and canny negotiator, often underestimated due to her cherubic appearance.

Gallianus is an old childhood friend of Lucian from their days as tunnel rats in the hive. Arch-Deacon Wilona Dressuul is a political animal. Her sights are firmly set on the position of Cardinal, and she is uninterested in anything that may stand in her way. At first glance, she appears to be a kindly old woman, with greying hair, and the customary robes of an Arch-Deacon. However, according to many of your agents, she's looked roughly the same for the past 50 years.

Do we not have a psyker on the command team? I realize that is an unusual question to ask in the IoM, but we are a Rogue Trader and it would be nice to be appraised of the local sorcery before we get hit with it unexpectedly.

No Psyker heroes at the moment. You've of course got an astropathic choir, and a navigator, but neither are hero units. The Imperial Guard Corporal is also currently not a hero unit.

You may, as time goes on, make more people into hero units
