House Baratheon of Storm's End
A Future Heir

Storm's End

---
If there would be any salve to the news of House Toyne's destruction and the seizure of their lands by the Iron Throne, it would be the news that the wife of Lord Raymont Baratheon, Rhea Hightower, was finally with child. Married now for a number of years, the failure to conceive a child had been something of a sour point for House Baratheon, particularly when compared to Raymont's more prolific cousins, the potential for the birth of a new heir has done much to alleviate the ill mood that had taken a hold of Storm's End. While not yet ready to celebrate, Lord Raymont has paid for a new statue of the Mother, one made from ivory and other precious things, to be installed in the Storm's End Sept in the hopes of winning divine favour and guaranteeing a safe and healthy birth.

Meanwhile at Cape Wrath, Robar Baratheon, who remains heir so long as Raymont has no issue of his body, continues to stand aloof from his older brother over his inaction regarding the destruction of House Toyne. Hunting regularly in the Rainwood alongside his retainers, the grieving Baratheon has begun to openly toy with the possibility of crossing the Narrow Sea and becoming a sellsword, an idea which some close to him have worked to encourage if only because it would be better for him than plotting vengeance against the Iron Throne. Word from within Storm's End would further suggest that, in spite of the rift between the two brothers, were Robar to choose to do so that he would be afforded a healthy stipend by Lord Raymont so as to better finance his time abroad.

House Mallister

Name: House Mallister of Seagard
Head: William Mallister
Heir: Andros Mallister
Words: Above the Rest
Seat: Seagard

House Mallister

William Mallister
(b. 120), Lord of Seagard, m. Aerea Waters (b. 120)

Their children:
- Andros (b. 142), m. Jeyne Piper (b. 146)
-- Lionel (b. 166)
-- Joseth (b. 170)
- Alyce (b. 144), m. Ser Mathis Paege
-- Has issue
- Jocelyn (b. 144), m. Lord Tristan Tully
-- Has issue
- Jeyne (b. 147), a Septa
- Sera (b. 147), m. Ser Walter Whent
-- Has issue

Internal Events:

- House Mallister, like most in the Riverlands, were affected by the Dance of the Dragons. Several of its members were lost in the war, but its lands were mostly spared due to being away from the battlefields of the war. The Winter that begun during the war was considered lengthy, and took a further toll on the people of Seagard, the members of House Mallister included. It is considered that the population in and around Seagard decreased those years. However, as a leading noble house in the western Riverlands, it continued on and took care of its subjects. The young ruler of Seagard would be killed fighting bandits. The closest male relative was a cousin, William, who had gone to Essos to explore and fought as a sellsword for a while. On his return, in 142, he was told that Riverrun had accepted him as the new Lord of Seagard.

- William Mallister had initially found it difficult to marry into any of the leading families of the Riverlands. Not many nobles were interested in having their daughter marry a former sellsword who might have fathered children while in Essos. William, however, would take an illegitimate daughter of a noble Crownlander house as his wife, whom he had met when he returned to Westeros.

- Currently, William is one of the longest ruling nobles in the Riverlands, and has gradually rebuilt House Mallisters influence throughout the Riverlands. He also established relations with others outside of the Riverlands, most notably when he participated in King Daeron's invasion of Dorne. He and his wife are popular among the people in and around Seagard. His son and heir, Andros, has taken on several duties, especially when representing House Mallister outside of the Riverlands. Currently there is a closeness with House Tully, both with one of William's daughters married to Lord Tully, but also Andros' son Lionel serving as a squire in Riverrun.

To the Lords of Westeros

As my brother is no longer able to do so himself, having passed into the embrace of the Seven, and with the blessing of my nephew, I wish to ask who among the noble families of Westeros is willing to court the hand of my niece, Lady Shireen, in the hopes of taking her as his wife?
From: Ser Robb Reyne
PRIVATE
I have heard how difficult it is to court Lady Shireen. I'll do anything for a challenge. When would be a good time to visit?

Hightower.

I have no need for the pilfering and disgraceful Kingsguard. Those still remaining are likely plotting to my end and fuck my desires just now. Aemon and that whoreson both can go rot in hell. Rot with the rest of the five. I have a better idea, string up those white cloaks upon the parapets of the Red Keep, so all the realm may know my wrath. No man would rise against the King now, with an army at my side, perhaps I shall show the realm my might. A tour might be needed, has been a time since a real Targaryen procession traveled the Kingdoms.

Perhaps I could chance upon my cousins on Oldtown? Hah, though I do prefer the girls from Lys nowadays.. Perhaps we could happen upon another, damned slave-barges aren't well protected.. Verlaryon could easily catch such a blasted ship.

The letter continues on for several lines spouting obscenities, it is clear the King simply dictated the letter.

My liege;

I'll make my way there at the sign of the first light. I would normally entrust my son and heir to represent me, but if all the lords of the Riverlands are called, I think it is imperative that this matter gets my full attention.

HOUSE YRONWOOD
882 AN (After Nymeria)

Name: House Yronwood of Yronwood
Paramountcy: The Principality of Dorne
Seat: Castle Yronwood
Largest Settlement: Yronwood

The Bloodroyal: Farien Yronwood
Heir: Cletus Yronwood
Words: We Guard the Way
Religion: Faith of the Seven

Castle Yronwood
The Yronwoods are among the oldest and proudest of the Houses of Dorne, tracing their descent back to the First Men. Once great kings, they have ruled Yronwood and the surrounding lands, from the Red Marches to the desert sands of the south, since the Dawn of Days. Once High Kings of Dorne, the Yronwoods waxed more powerful than any of their Dornish neighbors until the arrival of Nymeria and her Rhoynish countrymen. Yet the Yronwoods have never let their formerly lowly rivals forget their own impressively royal pedigree or dynastic might. Indeed, having lived in the northeastern corner of Dorne since time-immemorial, the location of House Yronwood's seat was a wise one. The Stone Way, over which the family seized control, provided one of only two overland passes between Dorne and northern Westeros (alongside the Wide Way). This strategic placement gave the Yronwoods significant control over trade and travel between Dorne and the petty kingdoms beyond. Additionally, the natural resources of the Yronwood holdings were rich indeed for Dorne: comparably fertile land, abundant timber, and mines full of iron, tin, and silver gave the Yronwoods relative economic wealth unrivaled by any other Dornish House, and placing them among the most powerful Houses in the southern half of Westeros.

The Yronwoods eventually became kings of their dominion, adopting the grand title "the Bloodroyals, Lord of Yronwood, Lords of the Stone Way, Masters of the Green Hills, Knight of the Wells, and High Kings of Dorne". Each part of the impressive royal style spoke to the Yronwoods' dominance: their ancient royal lineage, their gatekeeper control of an important pass into Dorne, and their ownership of one of Dorne's precious few fertile areas gave them indisputable right to be the supreme leaders of the Dornish. Indeed, numerous other royal titles were added over time, including "King of the Greenbelt", "King of the Redmarch", and "King of the Dornish". Still, the Yronwoods were not the only kings in Dorne, even if they considered themselves the highest. Along the Greenblood, a collection of Houses took advantage of one of Dorne's great waterways to elect High Kings from among their own number. Descendants of Andal adventurers also claimed crowns, which Houses still rule as lords in Dorne today: the Jordaynes, the Allyrions, the Blackmonts, the Manwoodys and others all at different points called themselves kings of pockets of Dorne.

The Yronwoods are well-known for their cavalry, employing a mix of traditional westerosi mounted forces, as well as the famed Dornish Sand Steed

Despite their rivalries, the Yronwood kings slowly developed their dominance over much of Dorne, and even into parts of the Stormlands during different eras of history. One by one petty kings gave up their crowns and/or bent the knee to the keepers of the Stone Way. Houses Jordayne, Wyl, Blackmont, and Qorgyle swore themselves to Yronwood or gave Yronwood support; from the mountain seat of Wyl to the headwaters of the Greenblood, the portcullis on gold standard flew. Even House Martell at one point swore fealty to Yronwood – a reversal of fortunes which would not be forgotten by later Yronwood rulers. However stable and prosperous the Kingdom of the Yronwoods was, however, it was not to last forever. Just under a thousand years ago, Princess Nymeria, a Rhoynish ruler whose city had been destroyed in the Second Spice War, landed with her Rhoynar followers in Dorne. Making common cause with Lord Mors Martell by marrying him, Nymeria declared him Prince of Dorne in the Rhoynish custom and began a war to bring the rest of Dorne under the Nymeros Martell flag. Predictably, the mighty Yronwoods resisted: their campaign against Nymeria, Mors, and their allies lasted 11 years. If King Yorick V Yronwood – self-styled "Lord of Yronwood, Master of the Green Hills, Lord of the Stone Way, Knight of the Wells, King of Redmarch, King of the Greenbelt, and King of the Dornish" – thought his powerful bannermen and long supremacy sufficient to protect him, however, he was destined to be disappointed. The great Yronwood rivals, Dayne and Fowler, joined the Martell cause. Yorick had a personal victory – slaying Mors Martell himself in the Third Battle of the Stone Way – but he could not outlast Nymeria forever, eventually being captured and sent fettered to the Wall.

The Yronwood kingdom was gone, and the rule of Dorne was settled on the line of Princess Nymeria and Prince Mors Martell. The Yronwoods were now no greater than their former vassals; all were sworn to Sunspear. It was a unique humiliation for a House which had ruled more of Dorne than any other (especially the now-supreme Martells). The Starks and Lannisters kept their holdings intact after the Targaryen Conquest; the last of the Durrandon line married her conqueror and became Lady (if Lady Consort) of the Stormlands; and the Gardeners and Hoares had been burned into extinction before their former vassals gained control of their realms. Even the Royces, once High Kings of the Vale, had seen only one of their line take that title before Artys Arryn claimed the eastern kingdom for his Andal line. The Yronwoods, by contrast, would now be no more than lords over the lands they had ruled as High Kings for thousands of years. Thrown out of the high seat of Dorne, snubbed for a place in the new Dornish ruling order, the Yronwoods have never forgotten the humiliation they had suffered at the Martells' hands.

Just over 20 years ago, House Yronwood, while largely seeing their lands spared during Daeron Targaryen's invasion of Dorne and the subsequent rebellion in which his conquests and his life were both lost, suffered a great catastrophe during the conflict. Nine Yronwoods gave their lives in battle defending Dorne against the invaders, and the family came closer to extinction than at any point in the past thousand years. The Yronwoods hold the dubious distinction of having personally suffered more losses during the war than almost any other House in Westeros, leaving behind a bitter enmity between House Yronwood and the Iron Thorne.

About Yronwood:
  • Located in the foothills of the Red Mountains, Yronwood is located along the Sea of Dorne near the mouth of the Yronwood River, whose source is to the west near Skyreach. The formidable castle sits at the southern end of the Stone Way as a guardian against intruders. The land protected by the castle is fertile and forested, with deposits of iron, tin, and silver. Yronwood has clean and sweet mountain air, and the high meadows north of the castle have crisp air and cool nights. The weather around Yronwood and its surrounding lands to the north and west consists of a typical Mediterranean Climate. Even to the south of the river, the climate is still significantly cooler than the deserts of central Dorne, owning to its close proximity to the sea. Dorne's largest forested area is situated around Yronwood.
---

Yronwood is known for being one of the few places in Dorne with fertile lands, seasonal rains, and forests.

I thank you for your support, and the friendship of Dorne, more trusted in these times than even my own blood and kin.

*Private*

I may be able to support you right now, as you know I am unwed and it is high time I had an heir of my own to inherit Starfall, if there is a House you would like to draw to your side I will send a raven to propose a marriage between myself and one of their daughters or sisters to bring them into your camp. As I was virtually fostered at the Red Keep for four years a desire from me to take a northern bride will not arouse suspicion from the King or Lothson

My lord Barthogen! I am indeed honored by the honor you have bestowed upon my humble family. I am beyond words to describe how ecstatic I am! I of course accept.

I do have to ask. Would my grandchildren accompany their mother North? I understand that their presence may be problematic to say the least.

I wouldn't take a mother away from her children, though i do intend to return to the North at some point in the future. This is ultimately up to negotiation, though it is better for the North to become accustomed to her sooner rather than later.

Diary of Manfryd Lothston (1)
"Live for Loyalty."

That is father's motto, the Lothston household's motto. Each of us can only have one master, the rest are merely acquaintances. That is what it means to be a 'Lothston'.

However, even if we're like that... When I look at my mother, I would often become curious. If someone inquired where imperfections in our household was, everyone would point towards her. It's not like I don't love her…but she's different. Mother has a slender build, is beautiful but shallow. Every time she looks at my father, her gazes aren't filled with love but 'fear'. This was why when I became old enough to comprehend the world, the first thing I did was ask my father, "Father did you force yourself onto mother…"? Father became silent for a second, he had the face of someone who didn't know what to say, at last, he forced down his anger and said heavily, "One day, when you have grown up, you will come to understand." This made me hope that when I've grown up, the answer will appear as father has said.

One day when I explored the dungeons of Harrenhal, I came upon my father overlooking some tied up knight. The young man was tied up to a chair and his mouth was gagged. I could not recognize his sigil. He looked at me full of fear, my father then bent beside him. In his hand... Something silver glittered...

"You know, I saw it. In the Year 179. For 56 seconds on sunrise, actually was it 20 seconds, I saw you glaring at his majesty with eyes filled with disgust."

The young knight shook his head sideways desperately. But-

"You're not allowed to lie."

My father casually held his hands and then swung an axe on a finger.

"________________" The young knight screamed silently with his mouth covered. Tears were falling from his eyes. Blood gushed out dripping on the floor.

"No one is allowed to hate my savior."

With a smile, my father then said, "For a person like you, with such pretty eyeballs, you were glaring at his majesty's radiant appearance. That's why-"

And then.

My father took out another tool.

"I'm going to take them okay?"

He took out a corkscrew... He held it's handle and pointed it closer to the knight's left eye.

The knight was probably trying to move his face to avoid it.

From the pointed twisting tip, he struggled.

He couldn't escape it.

He was held on by the strong grip of my father - he couldn't move his eyes away.

The twisted tip of the corkscrew moved closer to his right eye, slowly moving it and then.

I still don't understand... But I want to.
