Carry on on our word.

NEW THINGS.

Also, I kinda want to free them without them knowing we've done it yet. Or at least later.

First off; we're a Shaper. Exotic animals are definitely going to be of interest to us, even if we're not going to acquire any of them immediately, simply having knowledge of the fact that they're available ought to make things more easy for us to inquire about them later.
Second, we promised them their freedom, and this is a pretty good opportunity to make good on our words. And the cost aren't really that big an issue; between our stipend from the city, the reduced upkeep for ourselves and our apprentices via fishing tools and whatnot, and the income from the salt, we make that in about a single season.

[x] Market District: With an influx of foreign merchants, the wealthier which have relocated to the market district proper, there is a chance for interesting discoveries from afar... (3D100 to find interesting items)

Let's start with a bit of shopping?

Do we really want to free them so fast? Sure slavery sucks but it offers them some protection since they are his property. Let's have them at least able to protect themselves and then free them?

Yes. It shows them we keep our word, and there's nothing to be gained from delaying.

Protection from what? They're going to spend most of their time at the lighthouse with us. If they go into the city, chances are it'll be in our company as well; either on some errand, or for some social event.
And contrary to what you and some others seem to think, Astapor, while thoroughly unpleasant as a city, isn't some sort of lawless wilderness where people get attacked at random, barring specific areas (such as the slums). Events like those of the past interlude are very much the exception rather than the norm.

Uh admitedly I am thinking something in the terms that if they mess up they will not be enslaved or executed right off if they are Sindri's slaves or if they say get kidnapped we can ask from help from the authorities against the ones that stole his property. But I have no intrisic problem with releasing them right away.

Here's a question: should we free them at the start of the evening, or the end, as the culmination of the festivities?

Doing it early and telling them would make them happier overall and more likely to listen I believe.

If we didn't want to do this, we shouldn't have promised it.

What I don't get is why the fuck it costs us anything to free them?

I get a slave buying their freedom is a thing, but that money would be to their owner.

If it is just a bureaucracy tax the thing is too damn high.

Thats the whole point. They don't want to have people free slaves, its not a cost so much as a fine.

I'm assuming the free slaves thing comes with paperwork preventing them from being enslaved again without committing crimes and whatnot. "This person is always free in Slaver's Bay."

That's a potentially dangerous assumption. It's more likely that the so-called Good Masters just want freedom to be an extravagance rather than something people who dislike their profession do as a matter of course.

More likely that's a basic "right" for people living in Astapor and its territory.
If slavers could just randomly grab people from the street and enslave them, pretty much no one would want to live in Astapor, meaning the city would soon consist of nothing except slaves and slavers.

Pretty much, yeah.

Small tattoo/brand on the shoulder(and a note in their records). It does not protect you against slavery again entirely but makes you a lot harder to sell.

The Good Masters might be slavers and greedy bastards but they are consistent when it comes to their own laws and cultural practices.

You end up leaving the children in the hands of an official, the man shrinking under your gaze as you quietly warn him that any... Incidents while you are away will be paid back in full. You suspect you get your point across fairly well, the man being quick to give his assurances even as sweat appears on his brow and he avoids your eyes for all he is worth.

The children themselves meanwhile are not happy about the affair but take it in stride, the three of them being led into a small garden in the back while the official begins the process to see them freed.

And you? You take a stroll through the markets and stands of the plaza of punishment, observing what is on sale and display.

Separate people roll one of the following:
1D100 - Westeros.
1D100 - Essos.
1D100 - Sothoryos.
1D100 - Yi-Ti.
1D100 - Valyria.

Gm note: A proper update tomorrow or on Monday.
