I think most might have left out that our enemy might be some sort of high-functioning precog good enough for others to want him dead.

Stated in text to be false. "Divined" attacks that they set in motion. If you say "i am going to swing my right arm" and then do so, they isnt precognition.

[X] Plan blackmail

This doesn't strike me as index style precognition at least. Which mostly means it strikes me as both not likely to be actual precognition, and that there's no chance the precognition decides to make our lives easier or explicitly hell with no real way to see which is coming.

The tapping noise of naked feet on the floor and a faint silhouette approaching are all the warning you get before she slides onto your lap sideways, cheek resting on your chest. "Just for a little bit?" she asks quietly and says no more when your arms close around her waist.
Character growth? In The City? More wholesome than you think.
Seriously, this is such a big moment of growth for both of them and I couldn't be happier! Now all we need to do is knock over all those death flags that showed up and we should be good.
[X] Plan blackmail
This seems like a good start, the only thing I'm worried about is that the Prophet actually does have some sort of precog power and isn't just a hack, but from the info we have on them so far that doesn't seem too likely.

I think most might have left out that our enemy might be some sort of high-functioning precog good enough for others to want him dead.
However, that is only one perspective. Can we really be sure, without a shred of doubt, that this is not the case? Outside of the possible bias of the character(s).

The guy is explicitly pointed out as not being a precog and faking it via relations, a contract like this wouldn't make this kind of mistakes, that's what actually researched information given by offices whose money rides on getting that kind of things right says, he is there because he annoyed too many of the wrong people.

That's not perspective, the guy is just not a precog.

If you begin doubting that kind of infos in your contracts, you quickly ends up not doing anything.

So our roommate is officially a cannibal. Nice.

Always has been.

I do wonder how that many voters apparently missed it, I know I hadn't been subtle on my jokes about this, and I wasn't the only one, the thread made it quite clear since the very first update where she commanded *mysterious meat* that it 100% no doubts was human meat.

[X] Plan blackmail

hey, who cares about eating human meat? if you can't find scarps then you do what you gonna do, if its sticking around like a habit, who cares? it doesn't degrade her as a person, so fine by me, plus she is not *that* kind of meat lovers who lives deeeeeeeeep in disrtct 23

The "I read only updates" kind of reader could've easily missed this.

The updates also weren't subtle, particularly the one pointed out earlier:

"Make sure you don't get eaten over there," she says, half joke and half serious. Her sister lets out a quiet snort that earns a look from Parvati.

You pretend not to notice the byplay and nod, one finger still stroking your new ring. "I'll try to be careful. Do you want anything from over there?"

That earns both sisters' attention. Where Parvati just arches a brow however, Mai is clearly surprised. They both know what you just asked, but really? At this point you got used to Parvati's habits; it is fine as long as she keeps them away from you.

"You told them?" Mai asks her sister, who shakes her head.

"No. Ciel is just observant." So saying, Parvati turns back to you. "But no, thanks. Keeping the stuff fresh would be a hassle. I'll just have to go myself one day."

Given that this was right as we were going to cannibal central and begins by a joke about just that.

But really, any time *white meat* *the other long pork* *mysterious meat* or any other metaphor is used for meat, it always is human meat, always.

I do wonder how that many voters apparently missed it
I was rather tempted to just have it be forever implied and never outright stated. I probably would have done that if I had not decided to do the thing with the character sheets; Parvati's already had a trait in only question marks, so I felt it was high time to reveal it.

Though I admit it is curious to have several people completely surprised about it at this point.

GOOD UPDATE

Knowing about Parvati cannibalism just means its easier to tease her tbh. 'Well you are good at eating people out' etc stuff like that :V

[X] Plan blackmail

If nothing else, we can harvest some body stuff from the job
The dead don't need their stuff anymore after all
Though a freezer bag of somekind would be useful especially if we could weaponize it, nothing like flash frozen syndicate to set the jobs mood

I don't know why people are worring about Cities cannibalism Triggering any sort of disease.
When the entire district worth of people are doing it more extreme than her and nothing in the category of disease happend to them.
Some people might say that they died before it can trigger. But really? it at least should get mentioned by the literal one of the biggest chefs in the district if that kind of stuff really happen.
but anyway, if I go deep into it, we will be just retreating the ground of the disease vote and I don't want that.
And even if something of that kind happens, well...You can always get enough money and buy a serum from K Corp.

[x] You will capture members of the prophet's following to interrogate

Blackmail is a reasonable answer since we can leverage the fixer attributes, but I'm not sure how great I feel about using reason with the faithful and hoping we don't get a pack of fanatics, so I'm not yet sold on it. I'd rather just use violence to surprise and force them into submission to test their faith. I feel like blackmail is more likely to break down and we get into a fight.

Alright, time to close it.

And it is almost unanimous, too; Ciel will try their hand at blackmailing other Fixers. Oh, they grow up so fast

A quick heads-up, though: the chapters dealing with the Prophet of Yesteryear may end up on the shorter side. I do want this mission to have several decision points, but I will not bloat it out just to have bigger updates. On the other hand, I do not know how many or how few words each segment will need just yet.

To draw the curtain back a bit, the way I approach this Quest for now is that each 'arc' (i.e. each Grade) has one big event that is worth spending bigger chunks of time on. The Thorns took that spot in both Grade 9 and 8, Grade 7 had the Highlight Heroes. Grade 6's big event is already set and not the prophet, but the mission is still important enough to deserve some space. In a regular story's terms, where the big stuff would cover several chapters, the Prophet of Yesteryear is more of a "one full chapter" type of deal.

The reason I set it up this way is twofold: first is a personal constraint of not wanting to write this Quest for years on end; it has to conclude eventually, so I will not let tons of important stuff happen the first few Grades and get bogged down. The second is that while the City is full of neat and ridiculous things, I feel that only a few 'noteworthy' things happening to one person in a given timespan is more appropriate to the theme of capitalism grinding down the City's people without mercy. Even the extraordinary becomes just another Tuesday eventually, hence why I barely mention Urban Myths anymore and even Urban Legends only get a few words to them.

I wonder if Purple Tear will ever make a attempt at recruiting/training us once we get strong enough. I'm almost certain the thread would go for it, unless there is some weird hang up to it.

Still think if she ever asks us what we were thinking between then and now, it should be some variation of 'What restaurants would you like.'

Seen in perspective, Ciel looks like a truly exceptional existence even for a Color (when it happens). Our boy was so inspired by a single encounter and his desire was so great that in a way you could say he broke the cycle of the City just by daring to have a dream. Better than that: he is fulfilling his dream almost without getting his hands too dirty. He doesn't fuck people over unless they fuck him over first, and he offered his house to a pseudo-stranger just out of kindness.

Ciel is adorable and I hope he has a notable title like Color.

Look, you're a great writer. And this is a great quest, and that you have an intention to bring it to a definite end and have implemented direct methods with the aim to ensure that it has one is rare and amazing and praise worthy.

But if this quest is an accurate reflection and exploration of a dystopic-capitalist world I'm bailing here. Art that aligns with my fundamental worldview makes me either heartbroken or furious, and I can achieve either or both of those by looking at the world we live in.

I bid you joy and wish you success in your endeavours, I am off for another glass of Tia Maria with ice.

The City is a dystopia that's a pretty bad place to live, but the setting also generally has hope in the idea that past the struggle and obstacles, things can change and it is possible for people to work to achieve redemption, forgiveness, working past their own issues, making the world better, breaking the cycle of oppression, etc. This quest's goal from the start has been about Ciel following their dream and in that way setting themselves apart from almost everyone else who has already been ground down and abandoned their dreams.

I don't know your personal tolerance level nor can I predict the future plot points, so I can't guarantee anything, but I feel like if you've been fine with the quest and its depiction of the dystopian City so far, you'll probably be fine with future stuff too.
