And vote called with a massive win for Utah.

Will write up the next post after I get out of class for the day. Unless I get lucky and have no real work, which is a possibility.

Ari's Return 1.0
[X] You have to pay respects. Utah was your elder cousin, it would be disrespectful to ignore her, even now.

Sighing ever so softly, you turn brown eyes away from BB-63. While you should likely go to the dreadnought, quite probably the replacement for your elder sister as flagship of the Pacific Fleet, you just...well. You can't. Your sense of duty was strong, and you knew that there might well be someone who could answer what had happened to you on BB-63. But it was impossible for you to ignore Utah. She had fallen in the same attack as you had by all indications, and it would be wrong to ignore that. And so, you pushed your...boilers? Lungs?

Well, regardless of which it was now, you pushed them. Water sprayed up around your feet, mixed with leaking oil from your former hull.

Moving at a sedate five knots, you left behind the rusting hulk and her silent sentinels in the form of the arch and BB-63. Brushing red hair from your eyes, you look up at the stars as you sail through the harbor. So much time had passed...you still didn't remember anything beyond your death, but just the shape of your hull told you that much. That was decades worth of rust, at the least. Just what could have happened to bring you back after resting for so long?

It is not a pleasant thought.

Pushing that aside for the moment, you slow down as the equally rusted form of USS Utah came fully into view. A surge of sadness runs through your heart, as you slowly approach the aged metal. Where your hull had been laying flat on the bottom and with what was likely a memorial over you, Utah had neither. She was laying on her side, only a small portion of her hull above the surface. That portion was rusted, the red metal pockmarked and falling apart. It was...it was...

"Utah..."

Perhaps the saddest sight you had ever seen. Not that you had seen many, not with these eyes. But the fact remained, you couldn't help but feel melancholy as you pulled up alongside the ruined hull. This was a girl who had served longer than even you had, despite her disarmament. A girl who was the elder stateswoman of American battleships. Someone who, despite being relegated to a target, was a feature you had never expected to go away before you yourself were retired. But...

If you had been unprepared for the Japanese, then Utah was even worse off...she could have had all the warning in the world and it wouldn't have made a lick of difference.

"Hello," you whispered, placing a hand against the old hull, metal cool to the touch, "Utah, I...I am sorry you didn't make it. I hope you haven't been forgotten, in how ever long it's been since we were sunk. I know you don't seem to have what I do, but..."

Your free hand came up to wipe a tear from your brown eyes, the feeling of crying as alien as anything else in this situation.

"You were always there, even if you couldn't fight anymore. I haven't forgotten that. I hope that no one else has either, you deserve more than that. The unassuming heroes..." a small sigh came from your lips, as your hand left the old hull, "I only wish I could have done more to protect everyone. You, myself, whoever else fell to the Japs..."
You did more than enough Arizona. Do not mourn for me.
"But all it took was one bomb and I was gone. I still don't remember what happened after that, but I can only hope we won the war in the end without too many other lost lives."

Wiping more at your eyes, you turn a weak smile on the old metal beneath you. You doubted that Utah was in any position to hear you. Why would she be? But it felt...surprisingly relieving, to voice those thoughts. Maybe you needed this, more than you would admit. These feelings...alien as they were, it felt soothing to talk to Utah like this.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?"

"Don't worry about it. I've been doing this for years now, and I won't stop now just because of some damn war."

Voices...turning your head around, brown eyes widening, you see two people walking towards a pier stretching towards Utah's hulk. A tall man, dressed in what appeared to be a uniform. The cut was similar to what you remembered your crew wearing, but different all the same. You could make out blue eyes in the dark, red hair concealed under a cover. His broad shoulders almost hid a shorter girl by his side. Or a woman, perhaps. Her long white dress reached past her knees, only broken up by red cloth overlaying it.

The woman's blonde hair was tied back in a bun, almost yellow eyes looking up at the man next to her.

Neither of them seemed to have noticed you out by Utah's hull, though that probably wouldn't last long. The question then, was what you would do. The man at least looked military, and there was part of you that wanted to find anyone military. The part of you that was still USS Arizona, the ship. On the other hand, you were in a strange situation and did not know what rank this man even was. And there was still the option of returning to BB-63, as well.

So, what to do?

[] Introduce yourself to the man and woman. He appears military, perhaps he can tell you something about the situation. And...after all...he mentioned a war.

[] Observe. You still don't know much, and it's doubtful they could notice you out by Utah anyway.

[] Return to BB-63. It seems like the safest option, as it is quite likely at least a Captain is aboard the dreadnought.

We may have let our nation down last time, but not again. Not ever again.

They could be observing some private ritual of remembrance.... or they could be up to shenanigans. We just don't know.

If nothing else, let's let them do their little ritual first, I suppose.

Hora!

Seems like seeing what's going on via hiding is the better path here. Not like we know squat presently, after all.

It's your duty to report in, you still are in the Navy damnit

We can always introduce ourselves later.

Who are they?

(One of them is probably a shipgirl... Missouri herself, perhaps?)

Time for Arizona to go back into another war now. She won't be punched out so early this time around.

You know, what did Arizona do other than, you know, exploding in Pearl Harbor with a popular picture of her aftermath.

No offense. Just curious.

He's clearly here to pay his respects, too. Wait until he's done, then introduce yourself.

Oh God the feel bombs! I am in tears because I'm a history student....

Catalyze a nation's wrath and fury?

EDIT: It also should not diminish her decades of service in the US Navy.

EDIT2: Let's not forget that Admiral Nimitz served on her as well.

Hiding isn't going to do us any favors. We need to know how what's going on, or we'll be stumbling around in the proverbial dark for a long time.
