I think Umbreon learning Pursuit makes sense to me. I'll probably say that he'll learn it midway between the time he learns Moonlight and Guard Swap. So around level 32 ish.
I'm not gonna lie, noticing that Umbreon and Tyranitar had Pursuit removed from their movesets made me look up the list of removed moves so I've been systematically sorting through them to see which ones our Pokemon can learn. Which is how I got the following list although I kept moves that were actually redundant off of it such as Aromatherapy that Blissey could learn which was just Grass type Heal Bell a move Blissey can already acquire.

Eevee's unique moves from Let's Go Eevee were also kept off the list since they're unique to the protagonist Eevee of that game and were never used competitively.

Barrier, a psychic type move that improves Defense by two stages, learned by Magnezone via level up although redundant with Iron Defense it's easier to access due to being learned by level up well Iron Defense has to be learned by TM. Also, learnable by Dragonite via event before its removal which is notable as Dragonite doesn't have a comparable move otherwise. Its primary reason for removal was due to being restricted to so few Pokemon.

Feint Attack, a dark type move that always lands with the same damage as Bite but without a secondary effect, learned by Umbreon via level up. Was removed due to being an inferior version of other moves that bypass accuracy but Umbreon doesn't receive any of those so it just ended up nerfing them as they would now have to use the non-STAB Swift if they desired a move that bypassed accuracy checks.

Flash, a normal type status move that lowers the accuracy of the opponent by one stage, learned by Blissey, and Magnezone via TM. Was removed alongside several other TM moves in later generations due to the removal of TMs.

Magic Coat, a psychic type status move that reflects status moves used on the move's target to hit the caster of the status move instead, learned by Magnezone via move tutor. Was removed alongside many other moves with unique mechanics during generations seven and eight to cut down on development time.

Mind Reader, a normal type status move that allows the user to bypass all accuracy checks on the target until dispelled, learned by Breloom via level up. Was removed due to so few Pokemon being able to learn the move.

Nightmare, a ghost type status move that when used on a sleeping Pokemon bypasses all accuracy checks and causes them to lose twenty-five percent of their HP per turn until they wake up where it is then dispelled, learned by Gengar on level up. Was removed due to so few Pokemon being able to learn the move.

Refresh, a normal type status move that cures burns, poisons, and paralysis affecting the caster, learned by Eevee, and Chansey via level but by breeding for Pineco. Was removed due to being redundant with Heal Bell but neither Umbreon nor Forretress has that move so it simply nerfed them. Umbreon especially as this is considered one of the key pillars of its competitive downfall.

Revenge, a fighting type move that is identical to Payback except has ten higher base power, learned by Pineco via breeding but by TM for Tyranitar. Was removed due to so few Pokemon being able to learn the move.

Snatch, a dark type status move with priority where if any Pokemon on the field uses a beneficial status move the user will steal the benefits of the move for themselves, learned by Gengar, Blissey, Umbreon, and Breloom via TM or move tutor. Was removed due to being a unique mechanic.

Telekinesis, a psychic type status move that when used on a Pokemon bypasses accuracy checks, and raises the target into the air making all moves used on them guaranteed to hit but also making them immune to ground type moves, learned by Gengar, Blissey, and Forretress via TM or move tutor. Was removed during the general TM purge of the later generations.

Did you know there are one hundred and seventeen removed moves in Pokemon? I didn't before doing this.

Edit: I'm hammering out the move sets for our team and I've noticed a few moves I missed since they weren't on the removed move list, and were instead just moves directly removed from a specific member of our team. So, I'll be updating this list with those below this edit as I come across them.

Payback, a dark-type attacking move with fifty Power unless the user is attacked before using it in which case it has one hundred twenty Power, learned Umbreon. Was removed to nerf Umbreon as this was its primary offensive tool although it was functionally replaced later with Foul Play instead for a net buff to Umbreon in exchange for removing Umbreon's synergy with Curse.

Swagger, a normal-type status move that boosts the user's Attack stat by plus two in exchange for leaving them confused, learned by Umbreon. Was removed to prevent Umbreon from baton passing to physical attackers who could make better use of the boost than special attackers.

Heal Bell, a normal-type status move that cures the user and their party of all status conditions, learned by Umbreon. Wasn't removed on purpose rather Umbreon could only originally learn it from a move tutor in earlier generations, and it simply wasn't added to their moveset in later generations so they simply lost access to it.

Violet did get them to agree to assist with the investigation into who raised them, even if she did have to convince them that Sabrina wasn't as scary as they seemed to think she was.

Meanwhile deeper into the wilderness is what could now charitably be described as a ruin, Sabrina floated in the air with three unconscious bodies and 20 fainted Pokemon around her. Two of them were hers, Houndoom and Espeon. It had been an interesting battle for Sabrina, where she had decided to take on the three lead trainers alone and have her supporters handle the rest. It wasn't the best tactical decision, but she wanted a battle where she could go all out. And a three-to-one numbers mismatch was the best she was going to get.

To those who knew her, they could see a satisfied smile on her face.

ok, so she's at least as scary as they think she is, but the key thing is she is notably more reasonable than they thinks she is.

as for what happened, my read is that this was a kanto black ops thing that they lost control of, and then wisely decided to let militarized Evee lie, then team rocket picked a fight. Honestly, i'm amazed that team rocket won that fight. There where about 300 trained Pokemon with a command structure, NCO's and an understanding of small unit tactics. Though what Umbrion said happened might have hint at how

However, a few weeks ago a group of elite trainers had appeared who managed to drive the large group from their home.

Team rocket I think, has a core of very dangerous elites, possbly trainers linked to Giovanni's actual gym. Which would explain why they are not used much, since he can't have them linked to team rocket. I wonder if Sabarina will be able to pull any faces from the memories of the Evee pack?

[X] Meet Tetsuya - An old childhood friend of yours, the two of you drifted off recently. He is preparing for a Gym Battle with Sabrina, but right now would like to hang out.

@Daemon Hunter wasn't Willow planning on tackling Sabrina's gym last on her journey? Did that change in response to us bodying her so thoroughly?
Walking towards Willow's home, Violet was glad that her friend could talk for the two of them. Talking at length about her parents, some of her favorite sights, and how she loved Sabrina's battling style to the point that she was saving the Saffron City Gym for her last badge. Violet was mostly quiet, occasionally asking a question or two here or there.

[X] Train with Willow- While it would be nontraditional to train with your rival, both of you have unique skill sets that could complement each other. And Willow is hoping to take on Sabrina to earn her 4th badge.
[X] Train Umbreon - While he is experienced, he has had an informal training period and may benefit from special attention.
I think we should do either one of these, training with Willow is nearly always locked because she's busy with other things and doing it right before her gym challenge is going to be appreciated. And if she wants to do that, she'll do it next week, when I assume we'll want to go and support her with that, which means we should be able to hang with Tetsuya then.
Similarly I think we should spend some time on Umbreon to see what moves we want to prioritise and what we want to unfuck from his... Untraditional upbringing.

Yeah, we were a solid one and a bit badges over-leveled due to all our side questing including fighting five to ten levels up in the Pokemon Tower which we benefited massively from. And, our team was pound for pound still weaker than Sabrina's we just won because of a combination of good type match-ups, TM moves that countered her team, and a dash of luck since if Pineco had rolled even the slightest bit lower she would have missed her Bug Bite leading to at best a one to one trade with Alakazam or at worst the wiping of our team.

The fight only looked easy from the outside if you didn't understand what was going on, and Willow definitely would have understood what was going on. Which is why I'm surprised she thinks she can take on Sabrina since that implies she thinks she's strong enough to beat a normal fifth gym badge challenge with relative ease when she only has four Pokemon out of the five usually seen at those.

When I'm pretty sure our team at present even with our type advantage into Koga's gym who is liable to be who we face for our fifth badge we would still struggle mightily since we'd be fighting five to ten levels down just like we were in the Pokemon Tower. We could still win obviously but it'd be a hard-fought battle with little guarantee of success so for Willow to look at that and go "Not only would I win that kind of fight but I'd win it with relative ease" is a pretty big statement.

Well that's being bookmarked for me to reference in the future. I'll have to sleep on these moves, but I'm in favor of including at least a few of these moves in Pokemon skillsets. Iron Defense, Feint Attack, Flash, Refresh, and Snatch are the ones I'm most likely to use just due to being rather interesting to me. The others still may end up being included, but they're not quite as likely.

Sabrina will be able to pull some faces from the Eevee pack, although she's going to rather switfly find out that while they certainly worked with the Rockets, the people that cleared out the facility were very careful to avoid having anything that could identify them. To the point of focusing more on the handful of Eevees that tried to unmask some of those involved than the stronger Pokemon at times..

@Daemon Hunter wasn't Willow planning on tackling Sabrina's gym last on her journey? Did that change in response to us bodying her so thoroughly?

It's due to a combination of reasons with jealousy fueling it for the most part. Willow looks up to Sabrina and has seen Violet effectively manage to get on Sabrina's radar far earlier than Willow thought was possible. Then came the adventure that you were a part of, and while Violet was rather integral to a lot of the process, Willow wound up being in a much more boring position with the Scout Group. That one ended up being led by an overcautious trainer who was insistent on careful, prepared steps with multiple pathways to retreat. Which resulted in very few battles and prevented Willow from feeling like she contributed. When combined, all of this effectively pushed Willow into deciding to challenge Sabrina much earlier than she expected.

Yep, as it was the battle with Sabrina had a good few factors that played together to create a situation where you could win that hard at first glance. In actuality, it was a good bit closer as mentioned with Pineco having a good chance of just missing the hit with Alakazam which would have led to a far, far harder fight. It's part of what contributed to her decision to try and take on a challenge that she's very ill-prepared for. Effectively as a method to try and impress Sabrina like Violet impressed her. It's a bit short-sighted, but Willow is going to do it anyway. There's a good bit of hopium going on there, but she does know logically her chance of winning is rather small.

Unexpected Sabrina counter, unable to read Willow's mind due to high levels of internal fangirl gushing throughout the fight.

Sabrina is just too embarassed by the late battle to focus

Sounds good. Although quick question namely what do you mean when you list Iron Defense here? It isn't a removed move rather Barrier is the removed move listed in that section with Iron Defense being mentioned because it does the same thing as Barrier but is steel rather than psychic. With the key detail being that Magnezone used to learn both so the removal didn't affect him but Dragonite only learned Barrier since it learned a few psychic moves but only one steel move, and was therefore nerfed with the removal.

Also, unrelated to the above, can you remind me real quick about what Pokemon, Willow has on her team? I only recall Umbreon, Staryu (she really needs a water stone), and Bronzor with no recollection of a fourth Pokemon so she might be even more cooked than I thought in her battle with Sabrina. And, with a lineup like that well... I fear she may not even make it through the gauntlet to Sabrina considering how over-prepared we were and we still barely made it through.

Edit: Ah, wait she has a Heracross so she's not just walking into the gym with three support Pokemon and nothing up her sleeve to do damage to a gym type where amazing sustain is commonplace. So, she's not quite as bad off as I thought originally but still if Heracross ever goes down during the gauntlet to reach Sabrin she's done for since nothing else would really be able to get through the sustain of the gym's Pokemon.

Very interesting, I wonder if they primarily used ground type Pokemon.

The psychic vs psuedo-psychic fake out was funny. Moving her furniture, kek.

That's a thought.

The level of training and just the species present would narrow who they could be down massively. You need space, money, and dedicated help to get high end pokemon like what these people are implied to have.

There's only so many places they could do this. Further cut down when they're either hiding in plain sight or just hiding.

Follow the logistics. Trucks of supplies vanishing on the roads into the wilds for a blacksite, a gym taking up more supplies than you'd calculate it needing... what else?

Ah, that's mainly me somehow mixing up the move names and switching Barrier and Iron Defense in my head. As it is, I was more so thinking of allowing Dragonite to learn Barrier.

Very interesting, I wonder if they primarily used ground type Pokemon.

They had a variety of Pokemon, but a plurality were made of ground types. A bit more than one would expect but nothing very obvious.

I will say that some individuals are going to be thinking there's a connection with Johto just due to suspicions that it may be a black ops team from there trying to pull data from the facility. As for other methods of trying to figure out how Team Rocket is so successful, tracking trainers that vanish is one way that the League has had success with in the past. Just due to the fact that it's hard to be a high level trainer without consistent battling.

On that note, time for me to close the vote. Seems like a talk with Tetsuya it is. As for the next update, that'll focus on Violet teaching the various Eevolutions Protect with a surprise appearance from Sabrina who will be getting an immediate start on reading their minds in an effort to try and track down whatever she can.

Considering the association dragons have with magic and Dragonite's status as a pseudo-legendary it makes sense that the line would have a lot of "magic" moves.

Never change Willow...
I think we'll really want to go for the training with Willow action next turn if she's going to dive headlong into the blender like that.

Based on her having a free action this week she should only be doing the attendants this week so we should have time for this if we want. Although people should temper their expectations as no matter the amount of help we give she's all but certain to get absolutely blasted here so it's mostly a question of how gracefully we can allow her to lose with our training rather than anything else.

I for one believe in our friend, her Pokémon and their ability to overcome minor details like stats, numbers and strategy based on their blazing will and friendship with each other!!! Ganbatte Willow!

Kanto Week 26 Part 1 - Protect Chains
[X] Meet Tetsuya - An old childhood friend of yours, the two of you drifted off recently. He is preparing for a Gym Battle with Sabrina, but right now would like to hang out.

Violet started off the week by sketching out a training plan for the various Eevolutions and Eevee. Having committed to teaching Protect, she split organized groups among Chansey, Dragonair, Magneton, and Forretress. Violet herself wandered from group to group, doing her best to assist whenever someone had a problem that was taking a while to solve.

The already organized groups were the most disconcerting aspect to Violet, with the first to learn the moves having already been decided by Leafeon. Going from the most experienced to the least experienced, they hoped to set up a self-propagating process where each Pokemon would learn Protect and then teach it to others. It was rather unnatural for Pokemon to fall into line so easily, and Violet found herself wondering if a better understanding of Pokemon biology and psychology could provide hints as to what effects their … untraditional upbringings have had on their mental states.

As Violet continued into the latter half of the first day, her work was interrupted by another individual entering the crevice. Glancing over her shoulder at the slight noise, she spotted Gym Leader Sabrina, who was floating sedately a few inches above the ground trying to avoid getting mud on her shoes. Looking down at her own boots, Violet felt a tinge of jealousy. She wasn't sure she was ever getting the mud of them.

Sabrina seemed rather disinterested in Violet at first glance, giving her a curt nod to acknowledge her presence before locking eyes with a very tense Leafeon and their main officers. Noticeably, Violet noticed that the gym leader was only tracking one of the lead Umbreons with her eyes, using her powers to track everyone else. Was it their dark typing that caused Sabrina to pay extra attention to them? Or something else?

Spotting the signs of a telepathic conversation going on between the two, namely a very gradual loosening of tension within Leafeon's frame, Violet chose to focus on her current task. But not before shyly waving at Sabrina to welcome her. The gym leader's eyes briefly flickered towards her, before landing on Violet's Umbreon. A sharp, approving nod was all the acknowledgment provided, as Sabrina returned to focus on Leafeon.

While the gym leader began to slowly read the minds of all the Pokemon present to investigate the root cause of the incidents near Saffron City, Violet continued to train the Eevolutions. After the first day, around 20 Pokemon had learned Protect, and based on Violet's expectations, another 30 would learn it tomorrow. After which, she would be finished with her task, as Leafeon wanted to have the rest be taught by other Pokemon in an effort to ensure self-sufficiency.

After waking up the next day, Violet settled into the same routine she had used the prior day. Wake up, eat, take care of her Pokemon (although Umbreon took some convincing before agreeing to let her comb his fur), and then begin teaching Protect once more. This time, however, as she was working to train the various Pokemon, Umbreon joined in, learning Protect rather quickly even if he himself needed practice to use it properly in a fight. It was then that Umbreon suggested an idea that gave Violet pause.

"Forretress, Dragonair, Magneton, come here for a moment," Violet called out, curious to see if it would work. "Magneton, when I tell you to, try to hit them with Thunder Shock. Forretress, Dragonair, try this …" After explaining Umbreon's idea, the trainer looked at their expressions while mentally doing some calculations.

Testing out the idea proved surprisingly successful. Cycling Protects between Dragonair and Forretress, each one made sure to cover the other with the move as it was used. With both Pokemon capable of using it, Magneton had no chance to land a hit as every time he used Thunder Shock it was intercepted by Protect. Mentally adapting to the idea, Violet thought about adding Chansey to the group of Pokemon, which would allow a set of three Pokemon to use Protect while using a ranged move to attack with impunity. It was then that Violet frowned, it was an excellent strategy, but she hadn't seen its use in high-end battles.

'At your level, that strategy is hard to beat.' Violet jumped when she heard Sabrina's voice in her head. It was rare for her to be caught off guard by another person, but this time she was mono-focused. Now that she was paying attention to Sabrina, Violet noticed the attempt to hide her smugness. The gym leader turned her head towards her. Tilting it as if she was only now paying attention to the practice Violet was doing.

"H-how would you h-handle it?" Violet hesitantly asked, realizing that Sabrina was interested enough to provide advice.

Rather than say anything mentally or physically, Sabrina telepathically opened a Pokeball on her person. Unleashing an Espeon that Violet had no hope of beating, for a moment the gym leader considered the idea of using him in a five vs one battle with her.

Violet stepped back, swallowing nervously. "I-I-I don't think that's a fair fight."

Sabrina frowned, looking over at Violet's five Pokemon and then at Espeon. Mentally going through a battle within her head, the gym leader grudgingly came to agree. 'For you, area of effect moves are the only good answer.' She then gave a pointed look at Chansey who hid behind Dragonair. 'Or outlasting them.'

"A-and toxic?" Violet hesitantly asked, receiving an approving nod for her efforts. Feint Attack was also an option, although she didn't have any moves that could use either of those.

'Any other ideas?' Sabrina asked, testing Violet's understanding of Pokemon battles.

"T-taunt or Encore?" She replied, causing Sabrina to give a discerning look towards Umbreon.

'Among other methods,' Sabrina stated mentally. Violet frowned at the wording, there were certainly other methods to handle a trio that cycles Protect between themselves, but that didn't explain a faint sense of superiority that Sabrina exuded. Regardless, she could think about that at a later time. For now, she had work today.

When she finished, Sabrina graciously offered to teleport her back to Saffron City, which ensured she could meet with Tetsuya during the week.

Pick 1

[] Their Journeys - Focus discussions on their Pokemon journeys so far and what they have enjoyed most. Along with who they have met.
[] Team Rocket - Discuss Team Rocket, both of you have had encounters with the organization even if yours were more high profile.
[] Future Plans - Talk about what you are planning in the future, such as the gyms you play to take on as well as what your teams may look like.
[] Their Pokemon - Introduce each other to their respective Pokemon, there is certainly quite a bit of variety.
[] Write-in

[X] Their Pokemon - Introduce each other to their respective Pokemon, there is certainly quite a bit of variety.

Step one is always introducing the friend groups. Now I'm off to think about why Sabrina is being so smug.
