A Dragon's Journey

So how do you plan to get the Alchemist to help you out? Because right now the plan is fly up to the nearest village as you are and asking for directions before basically accosting him in his home or place of work. Which tends not to work all that well.

Your vote format was a little confusing, so I didn't think it was needed for that option. I've edited in what amounts to "pay him because you have money".

[X] To the south. You had a cousin there. She was pretty big on the Law of Hospitality. You didn't think you could stand living there, but it would do to get your feet back under you. You'd need to figure out what to tell her though, you weren't known to visit.
-[X] Try to hide your collar and shackles under something, even cover of darkness, until she extends her hospitality. At that point it will be safe for you to explain the terrible mistake that has occurred.

[X] The onyx ring

I would like to apologize for the confusion, but I made an edit that does affect your vote. You didn't loose an option, you just have to state how you plan to have Dave succeed.

-[X] Don't straight out lie or try to hide the shackles, that's only going to end badly. Explain that some upstart king thought that chains could hold you, and you want to find a way to remove them before dealing with that problem.

Call me curious, @ZabetTheRabbit. What makes you think that hiding your chains or lying will go badly? I'm not saying if you are right or wrong, but I am looking to kick up a discussion, so sorry if it seems like I'm picking on you.

I voted for that because the best lies always contain a grain of the truth. It's much easier to make up a reason for the chains now, instead of lying and just being generally sketchy about them. That will just lead to problems, especially if any rumors about a crazy dragon spread around, or soldier chase us down or something. When she discovers the chains, as she inevitably will, the fact that we hid them would make them seem significant. On the other hand, if we act as if the chains are not a huge deal, she will treat them like they are not a huge deal.

We expected to be able to rip through the collar/shackles with a single nail. The fact that we can't implies Feral Chains. Either we'll have to lie about why we have them on or hide that we have them--or we tell her the truth at first.

I voted the way that I did because once you're accepted by the Laws of Hospitality, she wouldn't have been able to turn us in or away. She might have sent us on our way sooner, depending on what the Laws entail exactly in this setting, but we'd have at least gotten a breather.

She might get mad this way and refuse help that she might have offered otherwise, true. But we should get that breather.

Well currently I could put the disputed vote on hold/keep it open, the dispute being the plan of action as you head south BTW, and post an update with the consequences of choosing the ring... Or we could wait and hope someone else shows up/changes their vote.
Interestingly, you guys have chosen what is probably the most modular class/path.
Of course, give the option of "Dragon + anything but Wizard" and "Dragon + Wizard" and they choose "Dragon+ Wizard" every time. Why didn't I see that coming?

--[X] If pressed say he was spreading lies about you going feral, which obviously aren't true, otherwise you wouldn't be talking to her now.

[X] Dagger
Because not-wizard dragon could be fun and because it's a link to one of Theoric's men which you can hopefully exploit later. The others are from dead and looted people, this was a gift.

Even with the extra vote for the dagger that's still

4 for the ring and 3 for the dagger and the Ring's never not been in the lead.

Alright... this thing... you're probably either going to get the system right away or spend the entire quest banging your head into the monitor trying to figure it out. More than likely if you do realize what system I'm using you'll be banging your head in because I'm probably doing it wrong. Guess it depends on how much you want to google.

Dream a Little Dream

You were going

[]To the south. You had a cousin there. She was pretty big on the Law of Hospitality. You didn't think you could stand living there, but it would do to get your feet back under you. You'd need to figure out what
to tell her though, you weren't known to visit.

-[] Don't straight out lie or try to hide the shackles, that's only going to end badly. Explain that some upstart king thought that chains could hold you, and you want to find a way to remove them before dealing with that problem.

The first item you reached for was

[]The onyx ring

Best to start at the back then and work your way forward, less distance that you would have to cover with your bag. You picked up the ring to set it aside. Then by exactly what you could later never discern; Fate or Circumstance, one of the links from your collar touched the ring.

You dropped in a dead faint.

But your mind was not still. You knew something of magic but it had never been a resource you had quite extensively explored. Now concepts and connections blitzed through your mind banishing all other thoughts. This magic system was not what you had been brought up with but it still made sense… mostly. Unfortunately there were so many ideas flying by at once you had trouble separating them. The wizard you had gotten this from hardly understood the significance! The fool had only gained as much power as he had by blind luck!

And well, if that was the strength it granted to a mere man, imagine what it could do for a dragon! All you had to do was {Redacted. Why can't you remember this part?} Of course you could also {Ow. Too many thoughts at once! Can't keep them straight!}

Strengthening/Resists
Wood bursts into flame. Fire is not extinguished by wood.
Fire burns creating ash, a kind of earth. Earth does not readily burn.

Metal forms within the earth. Earth covers metal, dulling it.
Metal collects Water. Water splatters against metal.
Water gives life to wood. Wood's body is carried away by the water.

Weakening/Insults
Tree Root crack and crush rock. Earth gives all its power and stability to the tree
Earth dams the rivers. Water cannot flow through solid rock.

Water douses the fire. Flame cannot touch the waves.
Fire melts metal. Fire dances around metal's strikes.
Metal tools chop wood. Wood will chip and shatter if it strikes metal.

There were exceptions of course, but those often dealt with integrating a second cycle into the mix.

And you Saw.

The first thing that you saw was yourself breathing fire, but this fire was green at its core with yellow at its edges. Your breathed your flames on your chains and {Redacted} though you could still feel their weight. You were facing a bandit, and with a snort you snapped your fingers and {Redacted} causing him to {Redacted}. You then gazed into your flames and your eyes lit up as you saw {Redacted}. You could see ash drifting to the ground from your flames, and you saw {Redacted} melt easily.

The second thing you saw,

[] were facing a platoon of men and you pumped your wings once, and formed a {Redacted} decimating their formation with ease. You roared and {Redacted} was now before you where before there had been wasteland. You saw yourself next to a sleeping babe and you began to snap your fingers and even roar to the heavens but still the babe did not wake. You saw a {redacted} burn making flames, and you saw {Redacted} break {Redacted}.

[] were above a great lake. You dipped a foot in and kicked the water up with a splash. Suddenly, {OW! This one was painful; it wasn't what you'd expected at all!} And from the droplets, {redacted} lashed out, hitting the distant shore with ease. You saw a {Redacted} quench your flames, leaving them barely more than a flicker and {redacted} nourishing {redacted}.

[] you flicked your wrist causing your chains to lash and writhe. Then, {Dang it! This one didn't quite make sense either! You'd think those powers would be with Water! Okay, that one had hurt.} They struck at a {Redacted} and it was repelled. You saw yourself with a foreigner, speaking and the man nodding along as though he understood. You saw a {Redacted} being pulled out of a {Redacted} full, you saw {Redacted} easily chopping {Redacted}.

[]You sat upon a beach. Idly drawing a handful of sand up to eye level before crushing it. The ground around you {Redacted} but because you had {redacted} you were fine. You tapped your foot and {redacted} destroying the fortress before you. You held your palm up and created a sphere of {redacted} drawn from the surrounding area. You saw {redacted} hiding within {redacted}, and {redacted} holding back {redacted}.

[]Your flames became blue with green tinge.
[]You didn't see yourself breathing fire first. You saw {pick a Not Fire option}. Then you saw {pick from above}. This will have major consequences if chosen.

---------------------------------------------
Your plan will still be in affect when you wake up, just thought you should know. You haven't yet had an IC reason to change it.

This is the shiniest option, and so it will be chosen.

In order, fire?, air?, water?, Mind??, earth?. I have no idea what magic system it is though.

As a further guess
Strengthening/Resists
{air} begets {fire}{fire} resists {air}
{mind} begets {air}{air} resists {mind}
{fire} begets {earth}{earth} resists {fire}
{earth} begets {water}{water} resists {earth}
{water] begets {mind}{mind} resists {water}

Weakening/Insults
I have no idea.

Yes, Kinda, yes, no, yes.

The strengthing order is mostly wrong. 1 yes, but wrong thing; 2 no;3 yes; 4 no; 5 no.

Would you kindly pick some elements to replace the text in the curly brackets? Otherwise your vote is kind of being wasted.

Invisitext:

So... we're going with chinese elements?

Generating
The common memory jogs, which help to remind in what order the phases are:

  • Wood feeds Fire
  • Fire creates Earth (ash)
  • Earth bears Metal
  • Metal enriches Water (as in water with minerals is more beneficial to the body than pure water)
  • Water nourishes Wood
Other common words for this cycle include "begets", "engenders" and "mothers".

Overcoming
  • Wood parts Earth (such as roots; or, Trees can prevent soil erosion)
  • Earth dams (or muddles or absorbs) Water
  • Water extinguishes Fire
  • Fire melts Metal
  • Metal chops Wood
This cycle might also be called "controls", "restrains" or "fathers".
