Shadows of the Past

[X] Keep quiet and just watch him work for a while.

Going to search for Noche seems like it might be a good idea, gets us an in with a wealthy man and might net us some lost lore if we pull it off, but I also want to give Yaxkin the opportunity to watch the smith in action. If the Noche is in such deep trouble that a bit of time watching (and possibly learning) will doom him, hes fucked anyway.

Shall I add the requirement to bring back 10 bear asses? :p

There are actually a few layers of hidden meaning here. It's far from a random side-quest with no impact on the main story.
Bah, I'm after 1) loot, 2) diplomancing potential allies, and 3) lots and lots of XP.

I guess we'll have to turn down Ollin's job offer this time, which is a damn shame, but there's no way in hell we're letting this slip by.

@Sqweaktoy, if we don't offer to find the apprentice we're flat out not getting a chance at an apprenticeship. The poor man isn't going to take another apprentice due to mourning the one he lost.

Also, we succeed and this guy almost certainly gives us whatever we want. Apprenticeship? Sure. Bronze sword? Take it.

Noche is the smith, the apprentice is called Ixtli.

That aside, watching him work some more is more or less a given with either option.

That's what I get for trying to respond quickly while at work
but in that case

[X] Offer Noche to search his apprentice for him.
-[X] You won't make any promises of finding him, but you will give it a shot.

So there's this.
--[X] Local clothes to blend in better so you aren't singled out and targeted. Nice, sturdy, comfortable and functional, less importance placed on style but not so far as to compromise it.
You don't really stand out that much. Unlike the farmers village, you are not the only tribal here.
Also, @Azel, look at that. I was completely right to fear discrimination for being dressed as a tribal. Who would've thought?

EDIT: We're getting those clothes. I'm fighting for this the next opportunity we get.
And no, the tribal clothes weren't a problem either. Or being a woman. Or what you said. Or that you where among the first. Or the day of the year.
That guy is just an asshole. :p
Then there's this.
As you walk past a house with a sign showing a cloak and a piece of armor side by side, you stop for a moment to glare down at your cloths. You were never ashamed for what you wear and feel no real need to start now, but it was undeniably a problem to be spotted as a tribal by everyone around you. Too many scathing comments and high-handed word had they brought you since you have come here and maybe it is time to change that.
@Azel, I feel lied to right now. :p

EDIT: This was a concern I repeatedly stressed only to be told multiple times that there was no problem.

I merely used your repeated concern as a IC reason to give you the price list. ;)

You are Yaxkin after all, so I tend to base her opinions on thread opinions.

Take note that Noche didn't care at all.

Edit: Speaking of clothes...
If you want to buy something, feel free to do so now.

So, @Azel, how much hunting would we need to get a regular light armor custom-made? We may not get it in this trip, but getting a little is better than nothing :B And people, what do you think of this plan change?

I'd rather not get distracted. We're walking into a place that is clearly dangerous and requires every bit of our concentration.

Besides, to present the worst-case scenario what if it turns out a spirit is possessing an animal we're stalking and we don't find out until after we've shot it?

Let's just keep our heads down for this one. If we find the apprentice, then we check him for spirit shenanigans and if he's cleared we patch him up and bring him back and get massive rewards. If we don't find him, there's still apparently the home of a master smith to raid. Compared to all of this getting distracted for the sake of an animal hide isn't worth it at all.

That would take roughly six hides. Depends a lot on the specific hides.

A jaguar pelt would get you much more then a few sloths.

@Azel, how confident is Yaxkin of hunting a jaguar without getting injured?

Seriously though, @Metrux @Pyro Hawk, this:
Given what you know to lurk in the darker parts of the jungle, you have a rather vivid picture of what might have happened to him. Guards and guides where a good precaution, but even the greatest hunter bands of your tribe flat-out avoided certain areas to not stir the things whose domain they where. Maybe Ixtli stumbled right into such a place.
is the last place we should be getting distracted in to go hunting. We need every bit of focus to spot hostile spirits and the like rather than wasting it on tracking animals in the wrong place.

Swear to God there's a KotOR quest in the Undercity of Taris that is exactly like this. I wonder if we're gonna find a few dead bodies with a journal explaining what he was trying to do.

Blacksmith seems like a very good person to have good relations with, and we are fairly well suited to this.

We really can't afford to be distracted by hunting. We should be putting all our focus in noticing approaching threats or avoiding walking into death-traps.

Man, these ruins usually have NO animals, I was thinking of hunting on the way. Like, we going to the ruins, we see an animal passing, we shoot it. That's exactly why I put "without going out of the way". I'm not seeking death, just that if we are presented with this chance, why shouldn't we take some pelt with us?

If Yaxkin sees an animal and a shot at getting it then it's OOC for her not to get it if she sees no harm. But by specifically putting it in a vote you're making it a priority, and it really shouldn't be a priority in a mission where we're walking right into spirit-infested ruins. For example, what if the spirits smell the blood? What if we waste too much time? Any number of things could go wrong.

Either way, both the ruin itself and the reward for getting the apprentice are enough that I don't want to be distracted by the prospect of a few pelts.

EDIT: It's just very little gain and a potential distraction during what we know to be an extremely dangerous quest that has a massive reward for success at the end.

"You see, all I'm doing here is pretty simple work. Old Cualli would probably laugh at my efforts. The Wise Men have a few rather fancy suits of armor for their guards, you should have a look at them during an audience to see some true art, but even they don't know how to make them without great effort, if at all. They are certainly not selling any of those fantastic armors. My apprentice, Ixtli, got it in his head to search some of that lost lore. Found some half-rotten documents that pointed him to a ruin in the south-east and he left a month ago to find the workshop of an old smith from before the Fall. Can't really begrudge him the choice, but he is making me worry quite a bit by now. Shouldn't have been that far and he had a scout and two guards with him. Ten days he told me, and now it's twice as long and I've seen neither hide nor hair from him..."

Successful Thief; Or Not
Apparently there are more ruins in the hills behind the Wise Men's palace that they lay claim to on penalty of death. Some young men has not heeded that decree from what you heard and found something of great worth there. The guard caught him when he attempted to leave the town with a suspicious bundle and it's deemed unlikely that he will leave the palace again.

My first thought on hearing his apprentice going missing searching for lost lore was this, it doesn't fit perfectly, but then again it is a rumor so details shouldn't be expected to be exact anyway.

I was actually thinking this too, but rumors on well-known details don't usually get too distorted. If there's a ruin that has a death penalty for entering, everyone would know where it is and would know to avoid it. And as for the apprentice, I'm sure he would have told his master the truth about what direction he'd go searching for his own ruins.

So I guess we can rest easy knowing that at the very least the apprentice didn't walk right into an execution.

Why would he want to leave the city then? He is living there. That must be somebody else. In addition, the ruin Noche's apprentice went to was a week's travel away, not under the city.
