Ready GameMaker One? [Virtual Reality Quest]

[X] You felt a connection in a dream to another world, that was trying to contact you. You're not making a world-you're trying to make a connection to that world you saw in your dream. You can't prove it's real, and you can't remember everything-but it felt so real.

[]You believe in yourself, your skills and your vision. There's nothing special helping you-just your own drive. (This is Hard Mode. No special benefits, but also no 'strangeness' to contend with) Vote change

I like the dream option ok, although it would really depend what the dream world was like; I'd like to avoid anything horror or dystopia flavored. I dislike the AI idea rather strongly.

[X] Fantasy: Your world will be one with a focus on wonder and the fantastical, rather than technology. You're not sure if you want to go traditional Tolkien-esc high fantasy, gritty low fantasy, or amazing wuxia style martial arts world. But the world itself is going to be completely unlike the modern day.

Well, actually I'm totally sure I don't want to go with a Tolkien-esque high fantasy. :p But biofantasy, space fantasy (where space travel is accomplished by space creatures or magic ships only, no high tech), or something where there are ruins of an ancient magical civilization for players to rediscover all sound great.

[X] Adaption: You didn't just feel like making a world-you wanted to make a world based on a piece of media you loved. A setting that you feel is perfect to become a virtual MMO. This could be Gundam, Harry Potter, Wild Cards, etc. Of course, the difficult part is getting
the rights and licenses for that IP. You're gonna start the game not only significantly in the red for buying the rights, but also partially restricted by the original creators. You can't stray too far from their vision without making them angry. Still, it comes with a lot of strong attention from fans of that IP-so don't let them down!

[X] By sheer chance, you discovered an incredible artificial intelligence that almost seems alive. And it wants to build a world to play in. (Assists in building the world from start to finish. Easy to demonstrate it's effectiveness but dangerous PR. Also, where did the software come from? Does it have intentions it's not telling you about?)

There is no way this would end up horribly :V

I'm just saying if the connection vote does win please don't let the setting be warhammer 40k, with the forces of chaos that might actually cause the game to make people violent.... and worst of all.... prove those politicians right!:o:tongue:

[X] Alternative modern day: A world like our own, recognisable but slightly different. Maybe it's a few years in the past for some exciting Cold War espionage, or 15 minutes in the future, with cutting edge cybernetics. Maybe it's modern day but in a world that's changed completely. Not a fan of fantasy and modern day gives us a huge array of options.

Oh shit what, alternative modern day gives us access to urban fantasy options? Nice. Cassie Palmer fanfic let's goooo

I noticed you changed your vote because of something another player said. Don't worry about the other thread, vote for what you want to see. Besides, the votes change so frequently and there's so much time before votes are called, that who even knows who'll win over there.

So vote for what you want to see on this. (Of course you might have just changed because you realised you wanted fantasy instead, which is perfectly acceptable, please don't feel like I'm pressuring you one way or the other).
Since you invited me it'd be rude not to join but I need to ask if I've read this right.
Are you discouraging vote discussion if you're recommending people do not change their votes because of it?

Absolutely not. The reason I posted that is because someone said they voted the same way on the other site, which changed their vote.

I'm fine with people changing their votes cause of discussion, or if they see a different vote they like, or just cause the weather changed. I just didn't like the idea someone might change their vote because of what's happening on the other site. I wanted to keep them independent of each other as much as was feasible.

Sorry if it seemed like I was discouraging discussing things. I love the discussion, it's great stuff and I want to keep it up. Does that make sense?

Nah it's my fault for not reading fully before posting. I didn't realise you were posting simultaneously.

It's too bad you can't start with all the voters together (making sure they only get one vote each, heh), then take the two most popular setting options and make sure each gets one thread. That might happen by chance anyway though, I suppose.

There's literally no way to guarantee someone isn't posting on both forums with a different username (I mean technically there's no way to stop someone posting on one forum with multiple usernames but I digress). I like to see if the different communities on these two forums vote differently for their Virtual Reality MMO.

Looks like this is going to be the case; so far Connection to Alternate Earth is the most popular on SB while on SV it's a Fantasy made by na AI. Still could change, of course, but I find it unlikely.

True, there's no way to know which real people are behind which votes in a casual forum setting. Either way, unless they are banned at one forum, most posters will have the option to follow whichever version of the game they prefer, or both. So I guess players will self-sort a bit after the first vote is concluded.

There's something weird going on with the tally. Notice Travisplo and Nevill's vote for alternate earth doesn't count with the other alternate earth, making a vote of 7 and 2, rather than a vote of 9.

So technically, Fantasy and Alternate Earth are tied. Unless I'm reading the tally wrong.
