I mean, they're pretty much a part of our team already? They agreed to stay in Yui's city under Yui's terms. Fuuku was salivating at our maps and charts. They've agreed to patrol where Yui directs them.

If they're not fully integrated yet, well it's only a matter of time. And I don't mean that in the 'muhaha soon the world will be ours' way. I mean that in the literal 'by friday they'll be just as involved in everything as Yumi is' way.

I don't want to retcon giving them the seeds, because I want a future scene where we go "oh yeah, we owe you seeds right? Come on down and check out our stache. Pick any 6 you like! Except that one, that one counts as 4."

These things take time. Ideally, we'd want these girls loyal before being included into the core group. And there's the issue with Yumi. We're not there yet. Also it's Maiko that controls that stash of seeds for obvious reasons. So any sort of arrangement would have to go through her. A common stash of seeds really requires loyal girls so it can be handled responsibly and not exploited.

As of right now, I'm not comfortable with the scenario you're going for. Not yet anyway. We need to raise our bonds more than this.

Will the entry be actively updated to accomodate the retcon? Or should we just consider it to have happened and move on?

I'll edit the relevant post to reflect the change. Hopefully more promptly than I did with the previous Grief Seed-related retcon. :V

I object on the grounds that we're leaning towards a central administrative system and so they already have hypothetical access to our entire stockpile, meaning the only seeds they need are emergency seeds.

But we haven't integrated them into our core group yet. They don't have access to that stockpile.

And in any case we promised them six seeds. They may not like it if we go all "You don't need the seeds since we've planning a central seed stockpile!" They might view it as us trying to make them join our group, and it would harm our relations with them.

Yeah, I kinda have to agree with Mura and somewhatLazy here. Right now, the only other meguca with access to "your" Grief Seed stash are Maiko, Minami, and Himari (at least while she's staying at Momoko's house), and the six seeds were part of the original deal with Rio's group.

...oh, and speaking of deals with Rio's group--don't forget that you specifically asked to meet with them face-to-face at least twice a week. :V Be sure to work that into your schedule, yeah?

I don't want to retcon giving them the seeds, because I want a future scene where we go "oh yeah, we owe you seeds right? Come on down and check out our stache. Pick any 6 you like! Except that one, that one counts as 4."

I'm thinking of retconning it in lieu of people wanting to hand the seeds over in the next update, because Yui did agree to it and it would have made sense to do it back then; pretty sure I just forgot. It's not that who owns which seed won't eventually be irrelevant, it's that Yui made a deal and should probably follow through on that sooner rather than later.

The real issue is probably Maiko, because bringing someone fully in to Yui's group kinda implies revealing that. Yui's not sure how Rio's group will react, and even if she thought they'd be okay with it, she suspects that Kiyomi is really, really bad at secrets.

[please meet me tomorrow]

[its about chizuka]
Yui: "So, you wanted to talk about Chizuka?"
Meguca: "Yes, I... You see, it's... I'll be blunt, okay? Chizuka is straight."
Yui: "...what."
Meguca: "Yes. I'm sorry, but she'll not recipropate your feelings. She doesn't even understand you have feelings for her."
Yui: "But-"
Meguca: "It's not because you did somehing wrong, okay? She just doesn't swing that way."
Yui: "But-"
Meguca: "Don't feel down. You're very cute girl, you'll find a girlfriend in no time. But it'll not be Chizuka. Again, I'm sorry for delivering bad news. Bye."

The funniest part is that this isn't even crack. Now that you've pointed it out, that's startlingly likely. It actually matches the mood of parts of the quest.

...no.

I mean, the joke was good while it lasted, but there is no way a girl would go into someone else's territory right after her group tried to sabotage theirs for some meaningless banter.

...Yui might, but she's special.

Ugh. I'm feeling a bit like this whole evening has been wasted; yes, we fended off an incursion from Tokyo and established diplomatic relations with another group, got eyes on their problems, and have the prospect of leeching some or all of their personnel, but all of that is speculative. We didn't manage to get in contact with any of the original targets for the evening- recall from 3-33:
Where should you look?
[x] Investigate the might-be-a-Witch incidents in the Saitama historical distict.
[x] Investigate the objects with 'unusual properties' in the southwest corner of town.
[x] Look for the girl in Yoshikawa Ward.
[x] Look for the girl in Kawaguchi Ward.

We at least confirmed that the "unusual properties" one is almost certainly a new contractee in no danger of witching out, so that's something, but we still need to move on these- and quickly, because new magical girls are at high risk of death via ignorance, recklessness, and/or emotional instability. They probably won't be dead tomorrow- but there will be other things to handle tomorrow, and putting this off sets a precedent of being willing to put it off, and if we don't check on them for three or four days and they do die then Yui will end up blaming herself and things will get bad.

So it's best to move on these now if at all possible. Calligraphy girl we'll have to follow up on tomorrow, but fortunately, at least some of the others should be easy.

Given that we have identified the Yoshikawa and Kawaguchi girls via social media, we should have names for them, which means addresses, which means we have locations. As newly contracted magical girls who are active on social media they are almost certainly at home when "it's getting late" at night rolls around, which means that Minami can just look into their homes, find them, and see if they have soul gems/rings. If they do, we can directly invite them to talk via telepathy and either set up a future meeting time or just hoof it to where they live and have them step outside for a few minutes right now.

Therefore, I believe something like this should be our "For the rest of the evening" option:

[ ] Have Minami locate the Yoshikawa and Kawaguchi girls via spy sat and knowing where they live. Determine magical girl status if possible.
- [ ] If either is a magical girl, brainmail them (MinamiNet optional) and introduce yourself, arranging an in-person meeting at their convenience or "as fast as I can walk over there", whichever they'd like.

With contingencies to be added for if they're not magical girls/we can't find them/arranging meetings for later takes five minutes and therefore we circle back to the same voteset, of course.

Actually, serious question. Can anyone think of a good reason why it wouldn't have made sense to hand them the seeds when you met up at the cafe? If not, I'd be tempted to just retcon that on the basis of "if I'd remembered at the time I would have included it".
Because retcons are to be avoided whenever possible as a matter of general policy. The previous "Maiko was mistaken and then realized it" retcon regarding magical girl population capacity was fairly elegantly done and I would prefer to see any revision of facts be done in that manner, if they're redone at all.

It doesn't actually hurt us to contact Team Rio and say "hey, want to get together for dinner+the handover of those grief seeds I promised" instead of retroactively handing them over. Heck, it even gives us a way to establish a pattern of meetings with us being about us giving them useful things (witch activity maps and then grief seeds, what present will Yui have next?), and we probably want to introduce them to Minami at minimum (possibly Maiko, we can argue over that later). So this seems like a completely unnecessary change.

And yeah, assuming that we had the grief seeds on hand at the time (I can't recall our stocks but we may have wanted to maintain a reserve without begging Maiko for more, and we've been hunting since then) we would likely have handed them over. But if you-the-GM didn't think about it, and we-the-players didn't think about it, and therefore Yui-the-character didn't think about it... then no one thought about it, and that's fine. People forget things. Apparently Team Rio hasn't been up in arms over it so I don't see what we actually gain by a retcon here to make up for the loss to the game as a whole of introducing additional fluidity into the past.

We are due to a meeting with RioTrio as per our agreement. Two meetings, in fact. I don't think anything changes if we hand them over then.

I am inclined not to worry about retconning it, @Echo. That's more effort for what should be a fairly insignificant change.

Eh, it'd be more likely to be an addendum to a more serious conversation were it to happen in the quest, but I could see that dialogue.

I dunno how I feel about everything you said, but this is pretty valid. Making a quick pit stop before or a long pit stop + dinner after our meeting would be pretty good and better enable us to build relations. It's a very good reason to not retcon.

I should vote before I forget.

[X] Accept
-[X] Meet them after school tomorrow
[X] Head home, do homework, then go to bed
-[X] Ask Maiko to use her spookybook tonight to find info on...

-[X] (No retcon) Brainmail Yumi's old team to see if you can meet up tomorrow for a grief seed hand off.

Immediate concerns aside, I'm still interested in pursuing Soul Gem defenses. Our Soul Gem is our main weakness, it's enormous, and we wear it right on our chest while meeting unknown-and-potentially-hostile teams of magical girls. We're just asking to be sniped. It's a fairly long-term project (like, three days or even more), so the sooner we bring up the idea, the better.

Suggested wording:
[ ] Ask Maiko to look into Soul Gem protection. Between Maiko, Himari, magical objects left from other members of Momoko's team, and your potentially versatile magic, is it possible to accomplish at least one of the following: protective casing for Soul Gems, decoy Soul Gems, Soul Gem concealment in transformed form, enchantment which would make it impossible to perceive a Soul Gem?

Edit: According to @Echo, Maiko could "replicate some of the setting of a Soul Gem"source. Perhaps she would be able to create a "Soul Gem remote control" of sorts, which would allow transforming/untransforming without actually holding the soul in hand? If so, Soul Gems could be given to allies with stealth powers before confrontations, allowing us to outright remove all vital organs from our meatpuppet before battle.

That's something you can bring up with Maiko, sure. That said, the more complicated projects that involve using her grimoire for research are not something she can do overnight, and you're already keeping Maiko pretty busy as it is.

Ugh. I'm feeling a bit like this whole evening has been wasted; yes, we fended off an incursion from Tokyo and established diplomatic relations with another group, got eyes on their problems, and have the prospect of leeching some or all of their personnel, but all of that is speculative.

It wasn't your most productive evening ever, but certainly not entirely wasted. It was also Minami's first outing as a meguca, plus there was the get-together at Momoko's house beforehand for a bit of bonding with your allies.

Given that we have identified the Yoshikawa and Kawaguchi girls via social media, we should have names for them, which means addresses, which means we have locations. You don't have all of that information right now, but you could obtain it, by which I mean "you could have Minami and Maiko obtain it for you". The leads you have already involved those two being a bit shady with the whole "invading people's privacy" thing, so if you don't mind encouraging Minami's bad habits then sure, go for it. :V

The previous "Maiko was mistaken and then realized it" retcon regarding magical girl population capacity was fairly elegantly done and I would prefer to see any revision of facts be done in that manner, if they're redone at all.

Well, my established policy from that quasi-retcon was "blame Maiko for my mistakes", and she was asleep when Yui was getting ready to meet Rio and company, so...

Are we retconning or not?

Eh, I'm not sure. If this wasn't a quest I would definitely edit it in, but retcons in a quest are uniquely problematic on account of messing with the context in which prior decisions were made. @DarkLight140 has sorta convinced me so I'm back to leaning slightly in favor of no retcon.

Given that I'm indecisive, I'll probably do an informal tally of what people said when I close the actual vote and go with whatever has more support.

@somewhatLazy, I like your vote, but a couple considerations:

First, meeting Team Rio before school involves a lot of running around and will leave us meeting them as a bit of a rush. Can we instead arrange for a meeting at their convenience with the stated purpose of grief seed handover+meeting more of the team? We want to be able to have a full conversation with them as part of our sustained social efforts in their direction, not merely hand over the seeds and call it good; we've discussed previously why establishing personal bonds of friendship and loyalty throughout our organization is extremely important. There are multiple team members that they've never encountered who we could introduce to them on positive terms and we want them to work with.

Looking into soul gem protection is a potentially important combat consideration, but I'm not sure whether it's the best use of Maiko's time and resources. She's wearing hats as a mentor, therapist, intelligence source, analyst, and advisor- do we want to give her a researcher hat as well? Aside from concerns about spreading her too thin we know that her shutting herself up in her apartment and not emerging for literally years at a time is a very real risk and I'm disinclined to give her an excuse to go full basement-dwelling maginerd when we desperately need her doing her five other jobs. Probably not disinclined enough to shift a vote over it, but still.

Aside from that you're good, I think, and I'll probably back your vote following resolution of these points.

"Okay Minami, now I'm going to want you to use your spy satellite together with your stalking them online to spy on these addresses. We're going to need good fidelity, too, if we want to get a look at their jewelry-"

"... Remember when we thought Yui would SLOW DOWN Minami's descent into becoming a criminal?"
Remember how we passed a vote having Yui tell Minami that her highly illegal stalking was a charm point? Just because it was funny doesn't mean we weren't serious.

Like just about any other group claiming a monopoly on force, we, Magical Empress Yui-chan, reserve the authority to suspend others' rights to privacy in any and all cases where such rights impede our ability to see to the safety and prosperity of Nagamioka and its people. They will be observed by our minions' magical spy satellites as much as we and/or our trusted minions believe necessary and should they realize that fact, they will thank us for benevolently watching over them.

Helping us maintain our crushing grip on absolute power is a prerequisite to be in consideration for Best Girl.
