Ugh. I'm feeling a bit like this whole evening has been wasted; yes, we fended off an incursion from Tokyo and established diplomatic relations with another group, got eyes on their problems, and have the prospect of leeching some or all of their personnel, but all of that is speculative. We didn't manage to get in contact with any of the original targets for the evening- recall from 3-33:
Where should you look?
[x] Investigate the might-be-a-Witch incidents in the Saitama historical distict.
[x] Investigate the objects with 'unusual properties' in the southwest corner of town.
[x] Look for the girl in Yoshikawa Ward.
[x] Look for the girl in Kawaguchi Ward.
We at least confirmed that the "unusual properties" one is almost certainly a new contractee in no danger of witching out, so that's something, but we still need to move on these- and quickly, because new magical girls are at high risk of death via ignorance, recklessness, and/or emotional instability. They probably won't be dead tomorrow- but there will be other things to handle tomorrow, and putting this off sets a precedent of being willing to put it off, and if we don't check on them for three or four days and they do die then Yui will end up blaming herself and things will get bad.
So it's best to move on these now if at all possible. Calligraphy girl we'll have to follow up on tomorrow, but fortunately, at least some of the others should be easy.
Given that we have identified the Yoshikawa and Kawaguchi girls via social media, we should have names for them, which means addresses, which means we have locations. As newly contracted magical girls who are active on social media they are almost certainly at home when "it's getting late" at night rolls around, which means that Minami can just look into their homes, find them, and see if they have soul gems/rings. If they do, we can directly invite them to talk via telepathy and either set up a future meeting time or just hoof it to where they live and have them step outside for a few minutes right now.
Therefore, I believe something like this should be our "For the rest of the evening" option:
[ ] Have Minami locate the Yoshikawa and Kawaguchi girls via spy sat and knowing where they live. Determine magical girl status if possible.
- [ ] If either is a magical girl, brainmail them (MinamiNet optional) and introduce yourself, arranging an in-person meeting at their convenience or "as fast as I can walk over there", whichever they'd like.
With contingencies to be added for if they're not magical girls/we can't find them/arranging meetings for later takes five minutes and therefore we circle back to the same voteset, of course.
Actually, serious question. Can anyone think of a good reason why it wouldn't have made sense to hand them the seeds when you met up at the cafe? If not, I'd be tempted to just retcon that on the basis of "if I'd remembered at the time I would have included it".
Because retcons are to be avoided whenever possible as a matter of general policy. The previous "Maiko was mistaken and then realized it" retcon regarding magical girl population capacity was fairly elegantly done and I would prefer to see any revision of facts be done in that manner, if they're redone at all.
It doesn't actually hurt us to contact Team Rio and say "hey, want to get together for dinner+the handover of those grief seeds I promised" instead of retroactively handing them over. Heck, it even gives us a way to establish a pattern of meetings with us being about us giving them useful things (witch activity maps and then grief seeds, what present will Yui have next?), and we probably want to introduce them to Minami at minimum (possibly Maiko, we can argue over that later). So this seems like a completely unnecessary change.
And yeah, assuming that we had the grief seeds on hand at the time (I can't recall our stocks but we may have wanted to maintain a reserve without begging Maiko for more, and we've been hunting since then) we would likely have handed them over. But if you-the-GM didn't think about it, and we-the-players didn't think about it, and therefore Yui-the-character didn't think about it... then no one thought about it, and that's fine. People forget things. Apparently Team Rio hasn't been up in arms over it so I don't see what we actually gain by a retcon here to make up for the loss to the game as a whole of introducing additional fluidity into the past.
