Sooner we show Shikai sooner we can ask Ichigo why he can't do it?

"You can't hear my name yet? And I am not 'reading your mind', as trite a way of phrasing it that is – I am part of your soul, it is only natural that your heart and mind are open to me" she huffs,

"…so since I have Rukia's powers, I have to do her job for her until she gets them back" he finishes his tale.

Karin's zanpakuto is part of her soul while Ichigo is borrowing Rukia's power. Karin has enough information to deduce why he can't do it.

Besides is that worth drawing the attention of Soul Society before canon?

"You should be careful about calling your zanpakuto's name carelessly, Kurosaki-san – it might attract the wrong sort of attention."

Is it worth the risk? You don't know what sort of attention it could bring down on you or your family – you can beat this thing without Nejibana, but you're just not sure if you can do it before Ichigo gets here, the idiot.

Even if it'd be a more certain matter – that shopkeeper's words haunt you; you'd almost never seen him be so serious in the short time you've known him. Something that can make that guy stop smiling isn't anything you want to draw the attention of.

I'll note you've already asked about why releasing Shikai is dangerous, and he just told you that Soul Society doesn't approve of shinigami existing outside its authority, and Shikai makes them much more likely to notice. I was going to have it appear in a flashback at some point but there's no harm in telling you now

Changing vote to:
[x] Hit and Run. Keep their attention with hit and run tactics, only going for a decisive strike once you have an opening from Rukia.
-[x] Karin focuses on keeping the Hollows off Rukia, Rukia focuses on Kido.
--[x] Keep their attention on you. Use taunts and frequent enough attacks to keep them from being able to outright ignore you to go after Rukia instead.
--[x] Try to move the combat closer to the direction Ichigo will be coming from.
--[x] With you holding them at bay, Rukia can focus one down at a time. Assist if you see an opening, but prioritize holding them off.
--[x] If you get openings for clean attacks, prioritize disabling their ability to attack from range and disabling their mobility.
--[x] If Ichigo makes it there before you two finish them off, get him to help Rukia focus them down one at a time. He's liable to charge in face first like an idiot, which may present extra openings to take advantage of.
---[x] Don't let him get smacked around just because he charges in face first. If there are still two up, make sure the one he isn't hitting doesn't take advantage. If there's just one, keep it from getting a clean hit on anyone.

[x] No, keep your sword sealed.

I removed the
--[] Use terrain to your advantage. If Rukia can get to safe, high ground, that's where she should be. If you can use tight spaces to make it more difficult for the hollows to maneuver, do it.

and replaced it with trying to move the battle closer to Ichigo is coming from.

If Rukia is on high ground and Karin is in relatively tight space won't that limit Rukia's ability to assist?

I prefer restricting our Shikai to our training sessions with Urahara unless it's a Defcon 1 emergency, so to speak.

Fighting two hollows of unknown strenght, with relativly little support and some time until Ichigo arrives doesn't qualify?
I know it's a narrative quest, not a mechanical one, so Death by Tactical Mistake is unlikely to happen, but I'd still prefer to play things safe until we get a decent healer.

Why I want to releasr Nejibana:
1) I want Rukia to see it. She knows Nejibana. She knew Kaien. She recognizes how Ichigo looks. I want her to make the leap to "a branch of shiba family somehow in the mortal world". She's also familiar with Nejibana and her abilities and could help us train.

2) I want Ichigo to achieve shikai early. Or at least to be aware of the nature of zanpakutos.

[X] Yes, release Nejibana.

You guys deal with the tactics for this one.

[x] Yes, release Nejibana.

I don't want to just hang onto it for ages in search of The Best Moment, cause that will never come.

Yup, also better to do it now when we have an IC reason, a relatively low-level fight (compared to all the bullshit that we'll come against later) and backup incoming. It will also make Rukia more likely to notice how alike do Ichigo and Nejibana's former wielder look, which would lead to all sorts of interesting things.

[X] Hit and Run. Keep their attention with hit and run tactics, only going for a decisive strike once you have an opening from Rukia.
-[x] Use your control over the water Nejibana produces to hinder the Hollow's manoeuvrability by tripping, intercepting and hammering them while Rukia binds them in place long enough for you to exploit the opening.
-[x] Your faster and even without the Wavedancer more manoeuvrable then Rukia. Keep the Hollow away from Rukia so she can effectively support you by creating openings.
-[X] You should lookout for opportunities to assist Rukia with Kido.

[X] Yes, release Nejibana.

How does that argument hold up to "soul society will have a much jogger chance of noticing and bad stuff happening"? The fact that it is a low level fight and we do have back up incoming are reasons why we should not release it.

If Karin had fought them by herself it would have been another matter.

Rukia is going to get a BSoD when she sees it, better have it happen in safe-ish conditions. And while OOC we know this fight is going to be the easiest one we'll have in the entire quest sans tutorial, IC this is the hardest one yet.

I'm going to try the new inbuilt tally system.

Well, since the last time we saw her fight a hollow she has learned quite a lot of Bakudo and Hakudo. I don't expect her to punch their lights out, but she can reinforce her body now.

From around the same corner that Tatsuki came, they appear, the two beasts that will meet their ends tonight.
She seems quite certain in her ability to kill them. In the last fight she decided to follow Kisuke's warning, so her default thinking isn't to go Shikai. Then she's most likely thinking that they can defeat them without it.

I'm gonna change my tacticts vote again. I got inspiration due to unlocking the Way of Onmi

[X] Hit and Run. Keep their attention with hit and run tactics, only going for a decisive strike once you have an opening from Rukia.
- [X] Both of you make a tactical retreat to stage an ambush. Rukia will be bait while you hide with the Bent Ligth spell. When the hollows approach Rukia, she will cast the Firefly spell to temporarily blind the hollows to create the opening you need. Continue the fight with Rukia as kido support so you can get more openings.
- [X] If they don't follow you to the ambush and instead go after Tatsuki, you will keep their attention on you while Rukia uses kido to create an opening for you.
-[X] If Rukia feels she is in real danger of being injured she can use Bakudo to restrain the hollows instead of the firefly spell.

[x] No, keep your sword sealed.

We have a cloaking spell, so why not use it?

URAHARA 'I sent you straight to my greatest enemy in pursuit of the one thing he wanted, which I secretly put there in the first place, and didn't tell you about it, along with starting to train you barely a week before I sent you off, because secrecy' KISUKE told us not to release our sword. THAT guy. When HE actually drops the mystery act and outright warns you about something, you better damn listen.

Am not going to release the sword unless necessary.
