wait are you saying that current wet mud is better than a solid granite (maybe rune fortified) foundation is better for anti skaven tunneling? i mean runes of vermin killing and attack reflection would make the foundation more effort to break through that just must i think?
Rock can be dug through with effort. Runes can be worn away with warp stone.

100 tons of mud suffocates rats who try to dig through it regardless.

Like, it's not impossible to fortify the underground enough to have a better defense than is naturally there, but we should be careful about breaching the natural barrier until we are ready to build such defenses. As it stands we are immune to anything short of a serious effort by scaven to undermine us.

They can't just throw slaves and warp stone at it. They need to build something like a giant drill or get creative.

I mean, the real issue is that Skaven are magic and can do massive feats of engineering just by throwing slaves with shitty tools at the problem and somehow all the inherent problems involved just sort themselves out without tipping the people topside off that someone's undermining them. Nobody can keep them out except Ulthuan, and even that's mostly a matter of "They can't sneak up on Ulthuan without getting caught by one defense or another", they can absolutely get rats on the ground, they just can't build cities underneath it like they can everything else.

I'd like the Skaven a lot more if they weren't wanked as hard as they are. Where the only reason the world is still in one piece is because the Great Horned Rat hasn't executed Order 66 yet.

farming doesn't strike me as profitable, the wagons however I think could lead to a special vehicle unit,

Serious tunnelling efforts by the Skaven can still get through that.

It just means that you won't need to deal with "petty warlords clan working a thousand slaves to death to dig a tunnel with worn picks and shovels."

Just

"Warlord Clan working a thousand slaves to death with freshly looted picks and shovels and losing another thousands to the fumes given off by pumping machines."

What it does block, is night goblin tunnels.
This is what Mayto said today about Skaven tunneling.

Just a question but why does Wheeling and Deeling have Azurite instead of docks? Is the dye trade better than getting more money and trade routes or is it for something down the line?

Because I really like it but wonder why not do both land and river trade in same turn

Because we've got both cloths and clay products, and the azurite will give them a substantial boost in value as well as boosting our Clan's standard of living and apparent wealth (currently we're wearing cheaply dyed clothing). It's been put off enough at this point, much like finishing up our Clan's homes.

natural defenses like muddy earth deter enemies like the skaven through how resources intensive they are are to work through but its a cost the skaven will happily bare if the prize they are digging towards is worth it like say a big rich and prosperous dwarven city , it not if the Skaven will try to set up under city but a matter of when they will try

so I propose proactive measures and action to be ready , there are two things we can do to prevent the skaven from setting up under our city

first the most effective deterrent to squatters is have not having anywhere for them to squat , unoccupied and unutilized underground space are spaces the skaven will settle , to put it simply either we build an under city or the skaven will show up and build one later down the line , by building an under city and fully occupying any and all underground real-estate we deny the skaven the ability to do the same

second all that presence underground will make it easier to defend the city from underground mining attacks through the practice of counter mining , for those who don't know mining attacks is the practice of attacking a fortified position through digging underground tunnels it is defended against through counter mining in which the defenders would post men in under ground areas like cellars and basements to listen for the sounds of tunneling then the defenders would dig and connect a tunnel to the attacker own and blow it up or if they have easy access to water flood it

Somehow I missed quite a few pages of discussion. Awesome. My brain can't handle the backlog right now, so I'll be abstaining.

I'm posting to keep up my will to continue to actively participate overall and be a quester instead of just being a quest reader.

I wonder if we ever accept suddenlands offer of perpetual territory in exchange for recognition if we could haggle on the details of things. Expanding our territory a bit more or right to prospect for minerals in Sudenland with an equitable split or something in regards to ores found not on our lands but by our hands.

Would be nice to hammer out a deal so we can just keep prospecting the entire region and not have to haggle over mineral rights every time. Would also probably get us more likely to use/ employ humans if we're essentially in charge of/ consulting over every mine in suddenland

but was that in response to the mud or the idea of a solid granite foundation? well either way they can tunnel in, my question was more of which would make it more costly
Anyone can muscle through granite with enough time and labor. Mud puts in a hard minimum of capability in that it presents a problem that requires more sophistication than "dig harder" to solve.

Skaven can get over that bar, but it still ups the cost. Goblins cannot.

We did right? I mean the deal is helping the oathbreaker clear out Beastmen and other critters and he gave us the land?

How much Zornian spelt do we currently have available? I looked and could not find. I didn't use ctrl+f so maybe that was the problem?

Cause if we lack the trade good surplus for zornian spelt, then farming and increasing the availability would be more productive.
