Return of the Skarrenawi, a Warhammer Fantasy hill dwarf clan.

At the end of the day, the blunt option is not insulting him at all. We are just not bothering with any flattery, we are telling him that we live here now and that it would be in his best interest to trade with us instead of attacking. Given that he has managed to keep Sudenland together, and keep paying the mercenaries, I don't think he's dumb enough to attack us instead of trying to make the most of it.

That is a fair point each option has a different approach and emphasis, possibly giving a bonus if we pick the right option. My main concern is that we have don't have the best idea of his disposition and we have to rely on the dice. The bribe option gets us a guaranteed good result using a resource, shame, that we have increase with the last few updates.

Honestly, I feel that only thing that Dawi "hate on spot" more than Oathbreakers are Dawi-Zharr.
And Goblins. And Orcs. And Undead. And Chaos Warriors. And Daemons. And Skaven. And Beastmen.

Don't get me wrong, Oathbreakers are scum, but there's a fuckton of things that the Dawi would rather see wiped off the face of the earth than that.

Nah, they hate oath breakers more than even those baring the chaos dwarfs , those are all just enemies external foes but but oath breakers are by dwarf definition and cultural norms traitors which are hated so much more viscerally

I do not believe an oathbreaker would be considered more "kill on sight" worthy than a Skaven. If they have specifically broken an oath with the Dawi then that's another story, but if a Dwarf is at some bar and they overhear a guy talking about how he deserted from his baron's army, and at the same time a Skaven walks out from the basement, you bet your ass the Skaven is getting a face full of axe instead of the deserter, 11 times out of 10.

Nah.
Skaven and Greenskins are kill on sight.
Oathbreakers are just that. Untrustworthy. Especially if we are not the injured party of said oathbreaking.

Dawi don't go around righting wrongs against other parties. They'll just use the past oathbreaking as an object lesson to expect the worst.

To add to this, the warlord that we are dealing with is an umgi. There is very little reason to respect or trust them with what they have done with the Empire.

The combination of oathbreaker and umgi make the level of trust be somewhere below the deepest dawi mines. The only thing we can trust is that the warlord will do what is in his best interest at any given time. His threat to us begins and ends with how much he can gain, and how much he can lose.

Another way to look at it:
A dwarf trader dealing with a human merchant takes his word that the amount paid is corrects, leaves and counts the coins, and returns if there's anything amiss.
A dwarf trader who has to deal with a known oathbreaker will count the coins before leaving.

If Dwarf Merchant (+ bodyguards) encounter Dawi-Zharr, both sides instantly draw their weapons out, without even bother to pull out coins

The warlord is nothing. He's literally nothing, the guy will die without an heir and his little fief will be absorbed by someone else. There's no reason to make him a personal enemy or even roll the dice on his character at all, just give him what he wants for now and he'll be gone within 20 years.

We did establish a precedent regarding such behaviour. The problem in question has its heads spiked all around our settlements. They will be swiftly joined by more unwanted guests, should they try and visit our lands uninvited.
Bold words.

How do you know you wont be wrong? When an army shows up at our doorstep and we are staring down a Game Over as the price of failure, how do you know we wont judge unwisely?

You say he isnt deserving, I say he is.

On account of the vast hoards of armed soldiers he commands, who do his bidding. We are alone, we dont have the backing of a karak behind us. If we screw up, no one will come to rescue us. If we snub the wrong guy, and he shows up at our doorstep with a much larger army, no amount of clever traps or sturdy walls will save us. It wont matter if we are stronger and tougher than two men if he brings four men to a dwarf.

This is the exact kind of attitude that Karaks have, right before they get rolled up by an Ork waaaaggh and have to flee to sleep on the couch of their friends and live off of the High Kings largess. This is like stereotypical dawi stubbornness and pigheadedness. We dont even know how many soldiers the Wolfbreaker can call to his banner if he wants to pick a fight. We dont even know all of the ways he can fuck with us, we dont even have proper houses yet. We dont even have a priest of Valaya.

Talking to him isnt a matter of honor. Its a matter of pragmatism and blunt cold-faced reality. He has warriors, he may have more warriors than we do, he may have better warriors than we do. We dont respect him for cultural reasons but that doesnt mean he is undeserving of some sort of deal or understanding or bargain or trade.

Simply because he has soldiers with pointy sticks and if he sends them our way, yeah we could fight them off...

But I aint looking to be no King Pyrrhus to the Umgi's Rome.

[X] Plan: Norn Priestesses, Food trade for Dawi, More Dawi immigration
-[X] Karak Norn and the priests of the Grey Mountains:
-[X]Hammering out terms - Blunt reality:
Diplomacy - 13
-[X]Make diplomatic contact with Karak Hirn and Khazid Grentaz:
Martial - 11

Stewardship - 15

-[X] The Earthshaper Family:

So my plan is to get priestesses from Norn.
Tell the warlord we are here, if he dares attack Dawi his own people will probably revolt.
Diplo with Karak Hirn and Khazid Grentaz to sell our excess food to, probably synergizes with the Exporting excess grain stewardship action.
Way stations to make travel/trade in our territory safer.
Exporting excess grain and diplo Karak Hirn and Khazid Grentaz to sell to, I'm sure they would appreciate proper Dawi grain.
Finish the homes.
Go fetch the pottery clan we left behind to make use of the red clay instead of starting from scratch learning how to work clay properly.

After thinking more, I think I would like to focus on carpentry. It synergizes well with clan tenet's and it's something that can give us an edge even against other dwarf karaks.
