I think we should consider non-lethal forms of combat. My thought process is to take a page from the Dwarfs: capture them, bury them, let their luck kill them. Thrall the survivors, make it a nightmare to raid you.

That just means their cousins come in greater numbers still, until you die.

You just can't win, you kill them and they come back for another go and to demand reparations for you killing them. You don't kill them and throw them in an oubliette and their cousins and kinsmen come to spring them and then murder you and everyone you care for because that's the only reparation possible.

A reminder, the Ancestral Treaty wasn't because Dwarves are scary, it's because neither side is capable of backing down when the grudge spiral starts and if you didn't have clear areas of influence and methods to de-escalate, you are going to end up with a charred, toxic wasteland that nobody can live in any time a Dwarf steals someone's cows for lunch and a Norseman gets their buddies and burns your hole down in retaliation.

Most importantly of all will be the receipt of her Knight's Fee–the parcel of land offered to Audrey to serve as overseer in exchange for her leal service to the Throne of Wessex. Due to her performance in many contests, the recommendations of several high ranking officials, and the discreet favor of the past King, she is at the top of the list to take on several "Challenging" posts, which will have great opportunities but also great trials to make them productive… Which is why they're still unclaimed.

The one the Court of Wessex decided to assign to Audrey was…
Bah, this is why I wanted to go for Administration 5! Really thought we had more time for this.

Oh well, no use crying over spilt milk, especially not when the milk being spilt gave you 2 Wealth and a Favour.

I feel like a coastal region is a good place that makes the most out of Audrey's strengths. Of all the Wessex Squires being given land in the wake of Alfred's death, Audrey is one of the stronger ones in a fight and probably the only one who can in theory actively go out and intercept the Norsemen on the waves. Not being as able to go on adventures is a significant downside, but at the same time every day is kind of an adventure when the Norsemen come knocking.

I like the ability to be able to build up as we please, and having a low initial population means more room for the people Audrey rescue with her heroic feats.

Plus, it's a woodland realm, that means higher odds for the fae folk. That's always nice to have, right?

Alectai is on record as really High and Really Low Grace rolls can be all but identical to an observer who isn't read into God's plans.
IIRC, high Grace is better described as "being where God wants you to be" than "being lucky".

And when you're a lean, mean murdermachine like Audrey, God really wants you to be present to protect His people from the worst and most terrible of raids.

I'm interested in seeing that Norse Drama and I want a little more freedom to wander then what Coastal would offer us, so I'm going to vote for a River holding.

Can't really decided between the two

Coastal Holdings seems the best chose in the short & long run with its trade, development, & natural resources. Finding the time to do our current Hama & future Deed quest would be the most difficult part, but I think it is doable so long as we form a proper militia & defenses to hold off the raids while we are gone. And while a low amount we can also still expect to see some loot & deed gains from repealing raiders so their are some upsides. Of all the choices this is the one that Audrey's build is most compatible with.

Woodland has potential & could be interesting in terms of how we choose to develop it, their could also be some foundational grade wood or a decent enough supply of fruit & barriers for alcohol production. Maybe if we get real lucky we could find another roman ruin. I can also see us recruiting the White-Eyes or refugees to move their to fix our population problem. The flexibility is the real draw what with the lack of responsibilities, but it will likely cost us our limited supply of wealth to pay for manor expenses that our taxes should have covered.

How would an Athletics prayer to increase strength in a grapple compared with the Ring of Stone?

Increasing strength in a grapple wouldn't usually be Athletics, though a Meditation adding some portion of Athletics as a flat bonus to grapples isn't impossible...that seems pretty doable for a grapple specialist, honestly. That'd only likely be useful combined with a Rote for controlling grapples, mind you, which would likely be under Fyrdman yt Wol and would be handy even without any Meditations...certainly if you intend to complete Grip of Samson, anyway.

The Strength of Stone Ring is, generally, a borderline auto-success on one single grapple roll per day. A Prayer of any sort would be a smaller bonus, but more often than that.

So I was think about Woodland and I do have to ask how much money timber is worth?

In terms of natural resources, Coastal is technically in the lead but basically due to location, all three are about equal otherwise when it comes to natural resources alone. Timber can sell okay, but the value of specific commodities is below the level of abstraction.

Of course, you need people to actually use those resources, so you'd need to get some with Woodland.

It just so happens that I like manor lords, and I am thrilled that Audrey gets a chance to really leave a legacy by taking undeveloped land.

I wonder, do the ones who know blame Audrey for possibly tiring the king into an early death, or compliment her for allowing him one last great deed?

So, some further details to swing th- er, um, illuminate the voters, shall we say?

It will take a significant amount of time and babying to get the Woodlands fief to break even let alone produce profit.

Dwarfs may appear in places Norsemen reside, which gives you access to the finest smiths this side of the North Sea.

No matter where you are, the Norse will find a way to try and raid you.

Solimann Everywhere isn't affected just by picking an obscure part of the world after all. You could rapture yourself to another [REDACTED] and he'd still show up a random.

Well yeah, that's the fun of the manor lords lifestyle.
