Oh hey, Zephyr! So how valid is it for me to reintroduce the Elemental Guards?

[X] Plan: Throwing the nobility a bone

Also, late to the party, so don't think I can sway people even if I tried.

Also, it is much more difficult trying to keep track of information on Discord, since unless there's Pinned Comments it's an absolute pain trying to find anything specific.

Trust me, there was so many messages the Discord discussion was needed, we'd already be at maybe 10-20 pages, it was 2 hours of pure constant discussion

A follow up of the Lesser Houses in the info post.

House Volaris want Zephyr as well, but they don't have as good of a position of House Avis. House Avis typically has the better fliers and they aren't exactly short on Wind knowledge. They're pretty certain good fliers will interest Zephyr more than whatever leverage House Volaris can bring to the table.
And yes, House Valanche dragons are massive. Built like tanks and have some of the only knowledge of Chi around.
House Temero is just bitter poison dragons with little influence. They spec'd into healing, but nobody trusted them
Houses Dreamweaver, Jadeborne, and Lux are interesting. All three are focusing hard on where two elements intersect (dreams/sleep, crystal, light) which is weird to the other Houses.
House Limus is much better known for healing than House Temero. And Temero kinda hate them now since everyone went to them instead of Temero.
House Liquis is basically the House Avis of the seas. They had extensive maps of the seas. Like Avis they're kind of torn between displeasure at the work of generations being destroyed and also glee because now they get to explore it all over again.
House Calas is also similar to House Avis; they supplied a lot of scouts and messengers for the war effort. Attempts to strike down the 'evil shadow dragons' went far more poorly than other groups since they were just so good at being sneaky.
House Galvas almost got destroyed trying to save every bit of knowledge they could.
Houses Volaris and Smuldur have a lot of unique bits of knowledge and techniques of their elements that they keep secret. A lot of the more skilled wind and fire dragons come from them
House Baselt is a competitor with House Bayle in the metalworking craft. They got targeted during the war pretty heavily because the apes and Cynder were trying to destroy any industry Warfang had that was keeping them afloat during the war
House Kudiyar is weird. People are pretty sure they're all insane (as to be expected of Fear dragons). They have some interesting dances.

Canon: Subconciousness of Fear New
A/N: @Nianque not sure how this would affect things but figured there had to be a reason Fear Dragons didn't do much of anything throughout the Legend of Spyro trilogy. Also, Fear Dragons have a high rate of ending up insane, right?

Subconscious of Fear

----
There are a great many things that fill this world, dragons are merely one of them. What makes dragons particularly special, however, is that they are one of the few able to channel the Elements through their own might & will. Mastering such a power is far from easy, but if done right then there is little they cannot do. Most, however, do not get that far. Perhaps they are simply content with they can do, maybe unable to for whatever reason...

Or are not allowed to. Of all dragons, two stand out the most. Purple Dragons could, in theory, access all the elements... but they are rare, they need but a few Elements to prove their power. Other than those rarities, barring unusual circumstances, a dragon could only access a single one. Fire, Ice, Electricity, Earth, Water, Wind, Shadow, Poison... and Fear.

Though they all share great potential, for both good & ill... those born to Fear are a threat to all around them. While Poison is especially suited to destroying bodies, those are far easier to repair than one's very soul. Indeed, of all Elements, Fear is the single one that is too dangerous to meddle with. Thus, those wyrmlings attuned to Fear's awe-inspiring might? Must never be allowed to cultivate such power.

All that lives knows Fear, yes, but is it no wicked thing. It warns of danger, keeping safe those who listen. Fear Dragons... they deceive the mind; convincing others danger is all around when it is not. The road to mastery would see all those around them broken, and for the good of all that lives? They must be broken instead.

----
Fear's Might is not meant to be controlled & it is the duty of the Dark Stygian to ensure such. Those who walk in the light know very little of their kind, and their sacred mission. All they can do, is say the same thing: Nightmares. In their sleep, their fear tells them a story, a story to remind them of how the world is far from safe.

Though some may fear Fear itself, it is all incredibly simple. The 'Nightmares' do not seek the harm & suffering of others, besides those who would dare to use Fear's power. If anything, without 'Nightmares' they would be in far worst straits. What manner of creature could have a deeper compassion than the 'Nightmares'?

The Great Dream is which all minds are linked, even though most know naught that truth. No matter what calamity may befall those on the other side, The Great Dream shall forever be protected. What more is there to say on such a subject? The only ones capable of proper interaction with them are the Fear Dragons... and they cannot be trusted.

Lord Screamsaver had long gotten used to how things are, making sure all was right. "They can't all be bad" was one of the most common questions he would be asked, and he would have to explain that 'Yes they all are.' Simply look at what the Dark Master alone could achieve, Fear's Power is not meant for dragonkind to wield.

Though even one such as he needed an occasional reminder of just what he & his 'Nightmares' fought for. There will always be fear, but there are right ways for it be expressed. Unfortunately, not all of his kin understood that simple truth. Fear Dragons are by far the greater threat, so such investigations were needed regardless.

All is as it should be... except, "What is that?" It is not an uncommon sight for newborn 'Nightmares' to explore and meddle with Dreams, it is such an uncomplicated matter his Court could easily handle such encounters. Yet, "This is something else." Fear Dragons are hard to miss when they are active, but... again, that could not be the answer.

Within the offending Dream, there's a small black 'dragon' with wings of blades and a curved horn as if a sword seeks to grow from his snout. The form is far from suspect, the fear responsible for our birth come mainly from Dragons. Nonetheless, he could not be a 'Nightmare', yet... "What else could he be?"

Mostly certainly not a Dragon, there would be far greater concerns if so. If he was neither though, what could he be? "I am Lord Screamsaver, explain yourself." That got the little one to turn around, blank white 'eyes' locking on Lord Screamsaver's visage. He did not seem aware what to do beyond that, strange indeed...

"This Dream needs naught a Nightmare's touch, come along now." The black bladed 'dragon' hesitantly approached, a newborn would instinctively understand. What a curious creature, it is not often something new & unknown reveals itself to Lord Screamsaver's awareness. The Not-Dragon would need careful consideration, yes.

----

A/N: I went into this, thinking "It'd be easy" only to realize "Oh right I hate Doing the Thing to Do the Thing." Obviously, I couldn't repost The Dreaming Defender & go Job Well Done. We're nowhere close to reintroducing the Elemental Guards, and I'm not sure how old they all would be.

All that really matters is that the Fear Elementals aka Nightmares are the sole reason Fear Dragons end up being insane nutjobs, because "Fear Dragons Bad!" Definitely not because Malefor didn't want anyone getting really good at using Fear without his permission. My explanation for why they're not harassing Cynder is because she was already completely crazy & Malefor doesn't need his minion being driven even more insane. Given everything she's been through, she just can't be broken again.

As for 'Blackout' definitely something of a Teacher/Apprentice thing going on eventually. One of the major leaders of the Nightmares has this weird Not-Nightmare creature and needs to be protected in the event anyone decides "That's obviously a Fear Dragon!" Certainly has nothing to do with Lord Screamsaver wanting to be more than one of the things that go bump in the night.

It's pretty good. I'd say they don't have have a 100% success rate though. Cynder, Houses Dreamweaver and Kudiyar manage decently well. In fact I'd say House Dreamweaver waging a secret battle with them could be why they've gone completely unknown.

I never said there was a 100% success rate, so I don't see a problem with what I wrote? Honestly, I'm kind of focused on Arte Grinding for Tales of Graces F Remastered, and each battle is really short for me. Just constant interruptions.

I didn't say there was a problem with what you wrote, I was more musing. I'm gonna make it canon. Though a line pertaining to House Dreamweaver would be nice.

I'm not really sure what to do about that, there's... a lot to theoretically comment on, and I have nowhere near enough time to replay the Legend of Spyro trilogy. Seeing as it is considered Canonical, I'm curious in what way? Gotten plenty of experience where something is only Partially-Canon, but there's nothing saying so.

Everything in there is a thing, there's just an ongoing war between House Dreamweaver and them. House Dreamweaver existed before Fear (the last element introduced) and has made decent progress in exploring dream magic.

Turn 1: House Avis' Demand New
The negotiations are a dizzying back and forth that is frankly exhausting to keep straight. Spyro has no idea how this can be considered standard for negotiations; what has he gotten himself into. In the end though, the concessions he makes are not too egregious and the things that he got them to agree to are more than worth it. He has one last task ahead of him however… He promised House Avis to give convincing Zephyr a go and he was going to give it his earnest effort.

"Good luck young King, this will not be as simple as you are imagining." Circos stated as the patriarch of House Avis handed over a simple scroll that a servant had gone to fetch.

Zephyr
Titles: The Silverwind
Age: 19

Martial: 9=9 - Zephyr has little talent in the art of war.
Diplomacy: 16+2+3+5=26 - Being a very relaxed and easy going dragon has served to make him approachable to everyone and he will always be there to listen.
Intrigue: 15-3+3+2+2=19 - Zephyr has always had to move about silently and since serving as a messenger he has learned to extend this to flying; able to move noiselessly even while out flying other dragons. He has little skill or interest in subterfuge outside of that.
Stewardship: 8-3+2-3=4 - To say that Zephyr is impatient and has little love for money or organization would be an understatement. The wind refuses to be confined.
Learning: 16=16 - Despite being a fast learner, Zephyr has never truly put forth the effort to learn unless he finds it enjoyable.
Piety: 15+8+3+3+2=31 - The sky itself favors Zephyr for good and for ill.
Combat: 15+2+2+1+1+3=24(30) - Zephyr has never truly enjoyed combat like his brother. Despite this he has been forced to learn how to take care of himself, something that he has excelled at since a young age.

Dragon (Access to an element, 15P, +2D, +2C (scales with age), -3I, -3S, +3 Armor): Zephyr was born as one of the revered dragons. Dragons have kept the peace through natural might and elemental prowess.
Scion of the Sky (+8P, Prodigal Affinity, far more influenced by his element, far more likely to gain wind or sky related traits): Zephyr's connection to the sky is so deep that the Wind influences him down to the very core of who he is for better and for worse.
Prodigal Affinity - Wind (+40 to Wind element training rolls): Prodigies are a once in a lifetime occurrence, almost always Scions of their element. Techniques that take others weeks to grasp, come to Zephyr on the first try and even the most difficult of elemental theory seems almost basic to him.
Wind Expert (+3P, 2C +30 to all wind rolls): Zephyr has an incredibly powerful connection to both his element and the sky. He is well on his way to reaching the upper-limits of what is possible with Wind.
Street Urchin (+2S, +3I, +1C): Zephyr grew up on the streets of Warfang with his brother and best friend, making far better at making do with the bare minimum.
Easy Come, Easy Go (+3D, -3S): The wind does as it pleases, with little rhyme or reason. What reason is there to worry, when you can just take things as they come?
Expert Flier (+2I, +1C when in the air, +30 to all flying rolls): Zephyr is the most gifted flier you will ever meet.
Skilled Dogfighter (+2C when in the air, +20 to air-based combat rolls): To fight Zephyr in the air is a truly foolish endeavor.
Scout (+2I, +1C, less likely to die): Scouts and messengers had a horrendous attrition rate during the war. The fact that Zephyr managed to survive all attempts by Malefor's forces to intercept him is incredible.
The Silverwind (+5D, +3P, +3C when in the air, increase flying maneuverability and speed), renowned amongst wind dragons): The Tale of the Silverwind is a new ballad celebrating Zephyr's legendary escape from the Terror of the Skies. With each retelling, his fans grow in number as more and more wind dragons challenge him and find themselves bested
Survivor (+2P, +3C): Zephyr survived the end of the world and witnessed its rebirth.

Not all eggs are sent to the Dragon Temple to be looked after by the Guardians, most dragons choose to raise their eggs themselves. Zephyr and his Fire brother Flare have very few memories of their parents as they were orphaned at a young age. As a result the two young dragons grew dependent on each other to survive and proved inseparable as they grew up on the streets of Warfang during the war. This childhood would serve to make them who they are today as Zephyr sought to escape the reality of his life through flying, while his brother embraced the harsh life. In spite of their rapidly differing interests, they remained close.

The two brothers would be drafted to fight in the war upon reaching thirteen years of age and it was here that their differences were truly made known. While Flare had grown to embrace the war and relentlessly trained his body and his skill in combat, Zephyr was nearly the opposite and found that he disliked having to fight and would prefer to fly whenever he could. Zephyr would go on to serve as a reliable messenger who quickly made his fame for being a truly incredible flier. This came to a head during a particularly dangerous mission where he was tasked with delivering important information from the frontlines back to Warfang. The attrition rate of messengers and scouts had reached an all-time high with an unprecedented number of interceptions and to make matters worse, the Terror of the Skies herself had been seen in the area.

The chase that followed was straight out of legend itself as Zephyr used every trick he knew, had heard of, or made up on the spot to try and shake her. To this day, Zephyr has sworn that for one brief moment, he had touched the sheer vastness of the sky itself. Regardless of the truth of what happened on that fateful flight, all can agree that Zephyr came back changed and that the wind itself seems to assist him almost eagerly.

Spyro took the scroll in his claws and began to read, his eyes going wide. "Wow, you were not joking about how difficult this is going to be." He was going to have to ask the Guardians about Scions later, but if this information was correct… This was going to have to take some planning.

Circos nodded. "Indeed. His connection to the Wind element is undeniable, but it goes far deeper. He is a true Scion of the Sky. We have observed him closely and he exhibits all recorded personality traits connected to the element. Flighty, curious, claustrophobic, a love of flying, and more. What we are most concerned about lay in his dislike of being… 'tied down' and having responsibility. Fortunately we have some options." The aged dragon began.

Spyro started to speak, then thought better of it. "Continue, please."

Circos stared at Spyro for a moment and then nodded. "Young Zephyr has two connections of note; his twin brother Flare and their friend Nefaris. It is they who ground him and without them Zephyr would likely fly off and not come back, chasing his curiosity. It is likely that they seek to tie Zephyr to the city more tightly to prevent just that. The three have a close bond and we can use that to our advantage. The second advantage is a bit more questionable… In our observations of Zephyr, we have found that he is near obsessive with flying and as you likely know, my House has amassed quite a bit of prestige from being such skilled fliers. Young Gale, a dragoness not much younger than Zephyr idolizes him and pushes herself to try and match him; we have thrown quite a bit of resources behind helping Gale become a skilled flier and we think she might impress him enough to make a marriage possible."

"I see." Spyro said as he considered the elder dragon's words. "You believe he would go for a marriage if someone impressed him enough?"

Circos chuckled. "Oh he stares at your Cynder enough that we think it likely. He's infatuated because she gave him such a thrilling chase during the war."

Spyro ducked his head as he blushed. "I-er… I should get going then…" He stammered back as he hastily rolled up the scroll and made his escape. Circos' laughter echoing behind him.

Where does Spyro go?
[] Seek out Zephyr himself
[] Seek out the brother Flare
[] Seek out his friend Nefaris
[] Go to the Avis estate and see Gale

Spyro took the scroll in his claws and began to read, his eyes going wide. "Wow, you were not joking about how difficult this is going to be." He was going to have to ask the Guardians about Scions later, but if this information was correct… This was going to have to take some planning.
Circos chuckled. "Oh he stares at your Cynder enough that we think it likely. He's infatuated because she gave him such a thrilling chase during the war."

Ah, so instead of Spyro going "That's my wife, please don't be mad" we instead get "That's my wife!!" Well, I have no business trying to make important decisions, so I have no idea which option we should pursue.

Personally, we probably need to know more about Gale if we want to convince Zephyr she's a good pick.

I think we should talk to his brother first, if nothing else, he should know his brother well enough to give us ideas on how to talk to him, after that we definitely need to talk to Gale. Whole thing is pointless if the 2 can't get along

[X] Seek out the brother Flare
