Nine Quest: Believe In Getter and Hold A Determination to Build

[X] Dismiss your Symphogear in favor of simulating the GranVang and fighting that way instead. It's time to get back in the robot!

"Hi hi hi!" The first new girl says as she pulls up right inside your personal space. Oh no, this is going to be Hibiki all over again, isn't it? "My name is Kirika, what's yours? You're the new girl, right?"

"We'd be happy to help!" Kirika cheers, swinging up her hand as well as Shirabe's in the process. "Let's go!"

Two whole lines for Kirika and no DEATH!? My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

[X] Try to figure out some combo attacks with your Symphogear and the other girls present; sure, you've only just met them, but you'll never figure it out if you don't try!

Of people present that already have Combo Attacks: Shirabe and Kirika, Kirika and Hibiki... Maybe Hibiki and Carol? Did they have one in XDU?

[X] Team attacks while powerful also need both or more users, which may not always be a possibility, so maybe getting to know your Symphogear better may be a good idea.

Getter Poseidon may be better suited for underwater, but even then the Getter cyclone and the strong missiles are nothing to scoff at, even then you doubt you are able to pull off the favorite move of the late Musashi Tomoe and the current pilot of getter 3 Benkei Kuramura.
----[X] After testing Poseidon, use Liger again and see if you can use this time the drill arm alongside it is other armament like the liger missiles and the chain attack.

While getting used to the new stuff is ok, Nine should probably return to her old style for this one, just to vent a bit instead of adapting all the time.

Yessss!

Normally this is around the time that I would close the vote, but we currently have a tie. I'll extend the vote for another hour or two, then if the vote is still tied I'll flip a coin and write accordingly.

EDIT: Alright, I'm throwing some dice to resolve this tie. 1 is 'Get Back in the Robot,' 2 is 'Change Poseidon.' Update to hopefully come tonight, but I'll be away on Saturday so if not it'll be on Sunday instead.
SilverStorm threw 1 2-faced dice. Reason: Tiebreaker Total: 1

Update Fourteen - Back In The Saddle
[X] Dismiss your Symphogear in favor of simulating the GranVang and fighting that way instead. It's time to get back in the robot!

Alright, you've had your fun messing around with your new weapon, but now it's time to do what you do best. Chris gasps as you dismiss your Symphogear entirely, the red armor of Getter Dragon fading as you return to your provided S.O.N.G. uniform. An enormous 42-meter Behemoth stomps toward you, the arm slave's thick red armor and Lambda Driver-powered barrier absorbing all of Chris' fire from her Billion Maiden without issue. Hibiki moves to help, only to be cut off by a trio of Pez Batallas; while the mobile suits pose little threat to her, the time it takes for her to smash through them guarantees that she won't make it in time. Fortunately for you, you have a trick up your sleeve; this is your sim, after all. It's time to call upon your favorite of the three machines you've designed, the one that most embodies what some would call the 'super robot spirit.'

The GranVang is meant to seat two, but you should be able to handle it just fine; you've piloted alone once before, after all. Sure, that was with every female pilot in Earth Fleet Tenku backing you up, and sure, it was against the single most incompetent leader Gamillas had to offer, but still! It counts! Besides, this is a simulation, so if you do crash and burn somehow, better for it to be here than in live combat.

As the Behemoth's massive red fist comes crashing down, Chris screams for you to dodge.

"NINE!"

She need not have worried, though; the embodiment of hope is here, after all! Just as the fist is about to crush you, it stops dead, having been blocked by a slightly smaller fist of black steel. From the fist on backwards, an arm swiftly flows into existence like rushing water, the simulator bringing it to life one atom at a time. From there, you leap into the air with the last of your Symphogear's fading power and land in a seat that did not exist a moment ago as the GranVang rises from one knee on legs that are still fading into view. Your new friends gasp in awe as your favorite creation rises above many of the virtual buildings in the area to dominate the skyline in the immediate vicinity.

Getting back in the cockpit is like slipping into a familiar set of clothes after a long time away from home. Just as you are Nine the android, you are also System Nine-Nine the OS; the GranVang and you are effectively one mind spread across two bodies. It's not the real thing, but it's real enough to comfort you in these uncertain times. Of course, the half-empty cockpit makes you feel the loss of Sis all the more keenly, but you turn that longing into motivation to get home and see her again. 'Burn your passion,' as the song in your heart would say.

As the GranVang stands, the Behemoth finally rights itself from where you pushed it back and moves to tackle you head-on. Unfortunately for it, the GranVang has plenty of ways to prevent that; the Stun Shockers aren't the flashiest, but they get the job done well enough. The red monstrosity falls to one knee, paralyzed and unable to move, as you draw your twin pistol Super Railguns and empty their magazines into its head. The Lambda Driver barrier flashes several times as it resists your shots, but eventually it fails underneath the firepower and the arm slave's head crumples and explodes, the titanic body forming an enormous obstruction as it rests across the battlefield. As tempting as it was to jump straight to Final Buster Mode, you don't feel right using the GranVang's most powerful weapon without having Sis in the cockpit alongside you. Hibiki and Kirika cheer wildly at the sight, the latter shouting the word "Death!" a lot for some reason, while the other girls stare in a mix of disbelief and awe at the size of the thirty-meter-tall weapon you command. Chris in particular seems unnerved by the sheer firepower at your disposal, but that's hardly an unreasonable reaction to seeing a genuine super robot in action for the first time.

Your next action probably doesn't do much to reassure her fears, as another Behemoth ponderously lumbers towards you only to be smacked aside by your Positron Convergence Cannon. You then briefly fire said cannon directly into its neck joint, but the Lambda Driver holds; unfortunately for it, that gives Chris plenty of time to dash underneath it and target the cooling system with her Queen's Inferno, shorting it out and making it easy prey for Miku's Liuxing beam to take it in the back and melt its head and upper torso into slag.

Shirabe then sends a giant saw blade spinning your way; you're confused as to why for a moment before realizing that there are three Pez Battalas, each leaping at you from a different angle. You quickly grab the string of pink light the saw is attached to before swinging it in a circle, carving through all three mobile suits in a single blow. You've never participated in combination attacks before, but you could really get used to this.

For a moment you're tempted to spawn in a Divinidad and give your new friends a real show, but you realize that it wouldn't fit into the simulation space without having to contort itself in ways that would make it less threatening and more silly. In addition to that, the point of this exercise isn't just to show off, but to learn to work as a team both with and without your Symphogear. With that in mind, you spawn in the Belial, the personal arm slave of that lunatic Leonard Testarossa, high in the air and extend one massive arm to Hibiki.

"Hibiki!" You shout over the GranVang's speakers. "I learned this from Koji Kabuto; if you wish to truly master the Rocket Punch, you must BECOME the Rocket Punch! Get over here!"

"Right!" Hibiki shouts, immediately grasping your intent. Her boosters fire and she lands in the GranVang's right palm with downright supernatural grace. You then pull back, twist around, and with a cry of Fastball Special launch Hibiki at high speed directly at the Belial. It attempts to block with its own Lambda Driver barrier, extending a hand out in front as it does so. Hibiki smashes into the barrier fist-first, but then with a roar and a burst from her elbow-mounted rockets her fist caves in both the barrier and the Belial's cockpit in a single mighty blow. It's not quite the Big Bang Punch, but the end results are similarly spectacular. Fortunately, your simulated Belial does not include a simulated pilot; as much as you would love to see Leonard get punched in his smug face, you somehow doubt that Hibiki would share your enthusiasm there.

Miku immediately hovers over towards her girlfriend and starts fretting over her, patting down her hair from where the wind blew it in all directions. It would seem that the girls have dealt with your mass-produced enemies fairly easily while you were busy, with Kirika's scythe and Shirabe's… yo-yo saws? Seriously, what is up with her weapon kit? Anyway, her yo-yo saws tearing through the last of the Jupiter Empire mobile suits as Chris stands idly by with a proud look on her face. Ah, you know that look well; it's the 'I'm so proud of my juniors, but I won't say it out loud' look. Why do so many of the people you work with have so many problems with communicating with each other?

"Hey Nine!" Hibiki shouts as she exits her transformation. "We're all going to grab some dinner in the cafeteria, you should come with us!"

"Does she even eat in the first place?" Chris asks Hibiki as she looks up at you in your cockpit. As a matter of fact you don't, but you've spent plenty of time in various mess halls all the same. Meal times are a good way to socialize with people and build stronger bonds, and while your inability to eat has occasionally put people off it usually hasn't been a problem. The same was true for your parties for newly-minted ace pilots; you might not have been able to eat any of it yourself, but there was always food available to be had.

As you prepare to dismount and end the simulation, you get a ping from Elfnein's tablet. The commander would like to speak with you at your convenience; should I send you his way now?

Vote Choices:

[] Go join everyone for dinner. Sure, you can't actually eat like they can, but it's a good opportunity to socialize and get to know your new friends better.

[] Go meet with the Commander; whatever he has to say, it's probably important.

Update Fifteen - Dinner And A Show
[X] Go join everyone for dinner. Sure, you can't actually eat like they can, but it's a good opportunity to socialize and get to know your new friends better.

You send a message back to Elfnein's tablet. Apologies, but please tell the Commander that I'll be joining the others first. I'll be able to see him afterwards.

Understood, the reply comes almost immediately. We'll see you in a little while, then. So she'll be there as well? Interesting…

As you finish dismounting from the virtual GranVang and banish it and all the wreckage back into the ether, Chris approaches you.

"Do you really do things like that all the time back home?" She seems to be genuinely concerned for your safety; not bad for someone who threatened to blow you up just yesterday.

"I wouldn't say all the time," you deflect slightly, adjusting the tie on your uniform as you do so. "Behemoths were fairly rare, and I always had plenty of similarly powerful friends on hand to help. Besides, the GranVang was specifically built to be a cut above most other robots."

"That's not what I meant, and you know it." Chris cuts you off. "Even in dimensions with no Noise, with no alchemy, people are still finding new and improved ways to kill each other. And you're saying you couldn't get away from that no matter where you went?" She fidgets and grimaces at you; ah, so that's the real problem that's bothering her.

"If it makes you feel better," you begin as you make eye contact with her, "all three of the dimensions in which I spent most of my time were beginning to establish lasting peace by the time I left them. After the three Earths almost fused together-"

"They almost what-"

"Everyone put aside their differences and came together to help save our respective worlds. Even the conflicts and wars that had been lasting for decades came to a halt. The fourth world Sis and I visited was also winding down its long history of war, known as the Twilight Age, and seemed primed to enter a Second Golden Age when we left. It's true that my life has been defined by war, but there have been a lot of reasons to be optimistic recently. We can be better, humans and aliens alike. If there's one thing I've learned on my journeys, it's to have faith in people."

"Have faith in people, huh?" Chris mutters, head bobbing as the two of you join the back of the pack heading for the cafeteria. "You've got a point. Ever since I met Miku and the idiot…" She doesn't elaborate, but you can guess the general idea; you've seen enough troubled veterans in your travels to know when someone has been through trauma. Perhaps once you get to know her better, she'll tell you more about herself, but for now you won't pry. It took a while for you to learn not to ask personal questions to strangers, but you like to think that you've learned your lesson there. Although Chris has been elevated from 'stranger' to 'new friend,' it's probably still better to not poke her in the trauma just yet.

As the six of you enter the cafeteria, you split up into trios; Chris joins Hibiki and Miku, while you join Kirika and Shirabe; given that you've just met them, you'd like to get to know them a little better. With that in mind, you wait for them to grab their food before sitting down at their table. If your hovering looks at all awkward, nobody sees fit to comment on it. Kirika does, however, comment on your lack of food as you sit down.

"You're not eating? The food here is great, I promise!" Not even a hello? Well, you must admit that it's rather noticeable.

"I'll take your word for it," you reply as Shirabe stares reproachfully at her forgetful partner. "Android, remember? It's not that I don't want to eat, it's that I can't."

"You can't eat?! That must be terrible!" Kirika wails. "All the flavors that you can't experience!"

"I don't mind," you say in response. "I cannot miss what I have never experienced."

Kirika almost looks ready to shove some rice in your mouth in response, but settles down after Shirabe puts one hand on her shoulder. "Calm down, Kiri-chan. Even if she can't eat, it was nice of her to come sit with us."

"Oh yeah!" Kirika says, as if the idea had just occurred to her. "Thanks for coming over here with us! You probably want to get to know us and be friends, right?"

"That would be my primary goal here, yes," you state. "Where would you like to start?"

"Well," she begins, "my name is Kirika Akatsuki! My birthday is April 13th, I chose it myself!" She… chose it? That's strange, to say the least. "My favorite kind of music is rock, my relic is the blade Igalima, and my favorite thing in the whole wide world is Shirabe!" Shirabe blushes at this; apparently her stoicism only stretches so far.

"Really? Why is that?" You ask. You've been avoiding ask too many questions about love while you get to know everyone here, but now she's just taunting you with it! You need to know! It's for research!

"I'm glad you asked!" Kirika straightens up and puffs out her chest while Shirabe shrinks away. This is going to be embarrassing for her, isn't it? "Number one: her smile! You might not see it as often as I do, but Shirabe's smiles are the best!" Now Shirabe is turning beet red and trying to hide her face with her hands. Poor girl; it's too late to stop Hurricane Kirika, though. "Number two: her kindness! Shirabe always tries super hard to understand me, even when I'm being silly or weird, and I really love that about her! In fact, I just love her in general!" This is fascinating research material; not since Patrick Colasour have you met someone so shameless about sharing stories of their love. Unfortunately, Elfnein has entered the cafeteria now, and judging by the way she's walking towards your table you're out of time for research for the moment.

"Number three!" Kirika continues. "Her cooking- oh hi Elfnein! Are you skipping dinner too? That's not healthy, you know!"

"Hello, everyone," Elfnein begins as she stands next to your seat. "I'll eat soon, but first I had to relay the Commander's new plan to Nine here."

"New plan?" You ask. Didn't he just want to meet with you at your convenience? That doesn't sound like the sort of thing that requires a complicated plan.

"The Commander had an idea, actually," Elfnein begins. "I'm not sure if it's a good idea, but I promised to bring it up with you all the same."

"What do you mean, not a good idea?" You ask, your guard instantly raised. You dealt with enough idiots among the Earth Federation Forces to know that just because someone is in charge doesn't mean their orders are worth following.

"He brought up the idea of… sparring, with you. Specifically with you in the GranVang. I told him it would be difficult to actually communicate information while doing that, but he seemed insistent on the idea." The difficulty of communicating is the last thing that's on your mind now. Does he want to die?! The GranVang will blast him into a fine red mist! Does he have a Symphogear too that he's not telling you about? This is such an absurd idea on so many levels…

"I'm sorry," you attempt to reply intelligibly as you try to get your thoughts in order. "He what? With the what? Is he insane?"

"Commander Kazanari can be… eccentric," Elfnein volunteers in what must surely be the understatement of the century. "He won't be at any risk though, I can promise you that."

"Can you really?" You ask her. "Even in a simulator, accidents can happen. Even simulated mass could still injure him severely if something goes wrong!"

"He's not the one I'm worried about," she mutters under her breath. Is there something in the water around here? How is anyone… wait. This is actually reminding you of something, though you've only heard of it second-hand. Back in the last universe you visited, the pilot and martial artist Domon Kasshu mentioned something about 'communicating with one's fists.' Supposedly certain people could demonstrably convey information solely by displaying their fighting prowess. At the time you had written it off as nonsense, but after you converted one of the Nevanlinna copies to your side while in battle you've had second thoughts. Is there something more to this, or is it just coincidence? This could be a good opportunity to find out… or it could be complete insanity and a total waste of time.

[] Meet the Commander in his office. It would probably be better to have whatever conversation he wants to have face-to-face.

[] Meet the Commander in the simulator. Maybe there's something to this whole 'communicate with your fists' idea…

Update Sixteen - Sparring With The Boss
[X] Meet the Commander in the simulator. Maybe there's something to this whole 'communicate with your fists' idea…

While you have some serious misgivings about the Commander's idea, your curiosity compels you to accept. There are a number of things that could go wrong here, but you're extremely interested in finding out why exactly a man would want to face down the pinnacle of Gardim engineering on foot. Does he not realize that you could simply step on him, or does he simply not care? Either way, you'll take care to not injure him; while you haven't officially joined up with S.O.N.G. just yet, it would make a poor first impression if you crushed your new boss beneath your giant metallic heel.

"Alright," you reply to Elfnein. "I'll meet him in the simulator, although I'm not sure what he's expecting to find." You're still not convinced that this is a good idea, but you'll give it a shot to humor the old man if nothing else.

"I'll let him know right away," Elfnein says as she returns her focus to her tablet. While you would normally consider the matter closed, there is still the matter of the two eavesdroppers at your table.

"You're sparring with the Commander?!" Kirika says with wide eyes and an expression of surprise on her face. "Hey everyone, Nine's gonna go get her butt kicked! Let's go watch!" Thank you for the vote of confidence Kirika, that was very inspiring. What kind of reputation does Commander Kazanari have, that his subordinates would bet on him over the power that they just saw on display?

After that inspiring display of volume from Kirika, everyone else clamors for a spot in an impromptu viewing gallery to watch your fight with Genjuro. You're not going to call him Commander again until he's indicated that he's got enough brains to have earned it. As the seven of you make your way to the simulator, Chris looks as if she wants to say something to you, only to back away at the last moment. Hopefully it wasn't anything important…

As you split off from the group upon your return to the simulation space, you spot Genjuro stretching and doing some shadow-boxing. He's really taking this bizarre display seriously, isn't he? As much as you hate to rain on his parade, you're not going to feel any remorse over crushing his pride here. You don't bother with words; you've dealt with enough meathead martial artists to know that sometimes force really is the only option when it comes to getting your point across. You don't think that's what Domon had in mind when he talked about 'communicating with his fists,' but at the moment you're not feeling particularly charitable.

For some reason your imagination creates an image of a man with an eyepatch shouting "Gundam Fight, ready? GO!" Your musings are then interrupted by the sound of a gong; the official signal to begin the bout. Genjuro loosens his stance but doesn't move; apparently he intends to give you the first blow. You cringe slightly at the prospect of blasting him into chunks before launching a single Murasame Missile. Whatever plan he has in mind, hopefully it will work as long as you keep the firepower low. As you watch the missile streak towards him, you catch him smirk before he… catches the missile? How?! It's almost as big as he is and is moving at several hundred kilometers per hour! That's not possible! Making matters worse, he then roars a wordless battle cry before spinning around and hurling the missile right back at you, the payload smashing directly into the GranVang's left hand as you're frozen in shock.

"Take this seriously, Nine! I'm not as fragile as you think! We'll never get anywhere if you're not treating this like a real match!" Genjuro shouts as he poses with one fist held out in front of him. What is this man made of, and how can you be like him?

"Alright, fine then!" You shout as you fire off a full payload of missiles at him. In response, he… well. He leaps onto the missiles and starts jumping from one to the next, slowly drawing closer to the GranVang as he uses your volume of fire against you. This time you at least have enough presence of mind to move backwards, but you're too slow and he soon delivers a thunderous blow to the machine's left knee, blowing off the armor and damaging the joint. As soon as he hits the ground, you fly backwards at full thrust, heedless of any damage your backwash could cause; clearly he's made of sterner stuff than ordinary mortal men.

Once you successfully open up the range once more, your head still swirling in confusion, you draw your twin Super Railguns and lock on. Despite his vastly decreased size, Genjuro's legs are somehow allowing him to nearly keep up with your speed, making him a difficult target to hit considering his tiny target profile. Nevertheless, your algorithms manage to predict his direction and you squeeze the triggers. For a moment you once again fear that you've accidentally killed the man, but a second glance reveals that you need not have worried.

He's… parrying the bullets. From your railguns. With his bare hands. "How are you doing this?!" You scream in frustration as you empty both magazines to no success. You just took down a Behemoth doing this, for god's sake, why isn't it working?

"You really want to know?!" He bellows in response. "I eat, watch movies, and sleep! A real man needs nothing else!" He what. He… watches movies? How does that give him superpowers? That doesn't make sense! Nothing about this makes sense! He then stomps the ground, causing a miniature earthquake that shakes the GranVang's footing and giving him an opening to close in once again. What on earth is happening here? Did you pass out again, leaving you to experience a delirious fever dream of a fight? "Show me your determination, Nine!" Genjuro shouts as he charges in and punches the GranVang's other knee, damaging it as well.

You're not sure how much information you've managed to convey to him during this spar, but you've certainly learned a thing or two about him on your end. He's absurdly powerful in ways you don't fully understand, yet he's completely helpless against the Noise. How frustrating must that be, to have all this strength and not be able to rely on it when it matters most? This man is a protector at heart, but all he can do is support from the back and hope that it's enough. Honestly, it's a lot like you used to be, just by a very, very different method. How many times did you stand on the bridge of the Yamato, helplessly waiting for Sis to come back and praying that your adjustments to the VangRay would be enough? How much trouble did you put her through in the sims to make sure that she would be strong enough?

You feel like you understand Genjuro a little bit better now. What was it that Allelujah said, back during the final battle against Nevanlinna? 'It's not like romantic love is the only kind of love there is.' This is a man who feels a deep and unyielding love for those under his command, who wants only to help them in every way that he can. His drive to support them and understand them, that too is love! For all the trouble that coming to this world has caused you, it's already done wonders for your research. Although you suspect that attempting to research Genjuro's abilities will only drive you mad…

You're glad you took the Commander up on his offer. As bizarre and ridiculous as this little sparring session has been, it's proved Domon's words about 'communicating with your fists' to be accurate, at least in some cases. And to be honest, it's nice to be able to blow off some steam; you've had a lot of frustration building up since you arrived in this world, but between the earlier simulation session and this practice bout you've been able to release a lot of that stress in a productive fashion.

"Alright, Genjuro!" You shout at him, trying to match his energy with a half-remembered chant from your records. "Take this! My love, my anger, and all of my sorrow! Anti-Proton Smasher!" The front of the GranVang unfolds, revealing the antimatter cannon you installed in it. Genjuro's eyes widen at the sight of the Shock Bullet building up in front of you; no matter how strong he might be, even he can't parry antimatter. He has no choice but to dodge, and you both know it. Of course, he almost certainly will be able to dodge without much trouble; even against much larger targets, the Shock Bullet was never your fastest or most accurate attack. Even so, it's gratifying to be able to force him to actually give ground for once after the absurd performance he's put on over the last few minutes.

As expected, Genjuro dodges your shot with little issue and vanishes into a cloud of debris and smoke as your blast vaporizes much of the simulated arena. As the dust settles and you prepare for another clash, alarms ring out throughout the space and Genjuro holds up one hand to indicate a timeout before putting the other hand to his ear. "Fujitaka, what's happening?" You instinctively hack into the signal; if something or someone is attacking, you want to be kept in the loop.

"More Karma-Noise, exactly 24 hours after the last attack! We don't see any MP Sarcophagi out there, but they could appear at any time!" Damn, you were really hoping that first attack would be a one-off. It's time to go fight the good fight once again, but how?

[] Head to the launch tube in your Symphogear; you've got five senpai to learn from here! Change Dragon!

[] Hack the simulator, turn it inside out, and sortie in the GranVang; your range and power will be limited by the hardlight generators, but it's still a bona fide super robot!

[X] Plan: Why not both?.

--[X] That doesn't mean you aren't able to stack the deck more in your favor, ask if you can try something with the simulator.
---[X] If given permission turn it inside out and load the battle data of some of your old allies, keep it simple so you don't overload it
----[X] the data belonging to Dann of Thursday and the man named Van alongside Tobia in the XM-X1 Crossbone Gundam X-1 Kai should be enough to give you all an edge in case this attack has more waves waiting

Normally this is around the time that I would lock the vote, but we have a tie so I'll be leaving it open for another hour or two. If it's still tied after that point, I'll flip a coin to decide the winner and write accordingly.
