No. The best time to offer her necromancy was when she held her husband's corpse in her arms. The second best time is now. Waiting will give her grief time to fade, her heart time to heal, and her husband's spirit time to move on into whatever afterlife awaits him. Trying to take advantage of all of that will be harder and will have lesser results than doing so right now.
Not to let out my inner evil sorcerer, but the best time would have been before her husband was dead, so that she would have rejected our initial offer and then, after her husband died, she would have sought us out on our own.

So when she rejected us the first time we could have said, in a ominous tone of voice: "Go then, little Elf, if you think you are beyond your own mortality. But when Death truly comes into your life for the first time, pray that it strikes the ones close to you, so you'll still have the chance to right the wrongs you have chosen to commit today"

And then when she came to us later we could have pulled a classic: "So you have seen the errors in your way and chose to return, like I knew you would. Well, come then, little Elf, we have a lot to learn"

The funny thing is, he probably wouldn't even realise just how he came across in these moments, because he didn't have any kind of ulterior motives while saying that.

Perfect synergy with the island's history - plus, making such an obvious show of support and loyalty to Luthor now should allow us more latitude later. (This includes telling a proper narrative of the origins of gunpowder, which does sound excellent.)

As for the other point, much as Prestige tempts me, especially in combination with the above reasoning... Pahtsekhen has the most direct and helpful answer to Princess Fallenstar's predicament directly in his power: spiritual care for her beloved and eventually the chance of reunion. Maybe she'll need to be eased into the idea, maybe it'll involve some tact to keep the true nature of the aid from her misguided fellows, but strictly considering the fullness of what he can do to help her - why would this most helpful and sympathetic of tutors hold it back?

I want that high elf knowledge to help us become an even more knowledgeable old man. If we keep helping her without offering dark temptations she will let her guard down. Don't start the process by bringing out the big guns; rather, start small. We know a lot about what it takes for a young princess to succeed given our niece is the one woman in the setting who can match Morathi.

As someone who grew up next to the boat museum Mystic Seaport I have vote for the hulks. You can have region specific galleries in each hulk, and there is a weight to old ships that most artifacts don't have. I've been in the presence of the lifeboat with the longest successful service (91 days at sea with a crew of 4 that became 2 before finally washing up). The chills running up your spine as the tally marks go from large slashes to tiny scratches...you just can't get that with simple artifacts.

Grief is too time sensitive to ignore, if we want to take Fallenstar as a true student the best, and perhaps only, time is now.

The Dread Abyssal synergises well with the Island choice, maybe we could even offer retirement for some of the crew as museum staff.

Grief is a fun option, but that 'spectacle of the secrets of the world' is just too raw a line to pass up. And this way we probably get to get into screaming matches reasoned debates with stubborn asur academics about history and that sounds hilarious.

History of gunpowder just feels like a fun topic, and it fits the assignment to glaze Luthor's rep well with how prominent his achievements are in it.

Luthor wants the museum to honor his achievements, and inventing gunpowder that works underwater is insanely impressive. Alas, giving our patron his proper due means the overt Asur influence of Prestige is less than ideal. Power is the best choice, in my mind, as it provides the most options while keeping the relationship covert. Tossing Grief in as a strategic vote to topple Prestige.

Boats are cool and when we acquire more stuff from where's specific boats came from we can display them on those specific boats. So we could display artifacts from a place on a ship from the same place.
