An ugly truth is still a truth. And if we want to dispel notions of Elgi being wicked deceitful creatures when they do contact their southern kin being honest is the way.

At the same time telling them that honest truth. They will almost have to take it as a lie. They must assume we are decieving them ir plainly mistaken.

Or what? Their entire race and their races closest allies collectively shoved honor, decency, and sanity out a window?

Wouldn't it be easier if it was some chaos trick? Or a misunderstanding or...

I see being honest as gaining short term problems and losing long term ones.

While being not totally honest establishes a safe ish status quo, but opens us up to being questioned about our secret keeping later.

Either way. I can only see Vardanis being as completely and brutally transparent as possible.

Except Varandis is all about the natural order, about being a good and humble steward of the world. Bluntness and arrogance is the realm of the Dark Elves. The elvish trait of the Phoenix and the Lion, the Apex Predators and kings of their realm, is that they only take what they need and intervene when someone else does.

You mean the guy who has a giant chip on each shoulder from his family drama and complete inability to actually tell a girl he likes her?

That's the whole point of Elves Are Proud, And That's Their Flaw.

If you tell Varandis to be really honest, he's not going to tell you your idea has no merits. He's going to start spouting his personal opinions as if they were absolute truth and considers them grounds to have your entire family disgraced.

Look at the QM's writing about how he loathed every identified item on the Runesmith's person, and how Verandis has acted around people he intensely dislikes.

They've been out of contact with the wider world for literal millennia, they should know now rather than find out later.
