[X] Sega is still looking into helping getting their names out there, and while the best play Sega, there is no shame in admitting that other consoles can give you vastly different experiences to what you had expected. Due to their success, it would be prudent to make sure people get more pieces of the pie. Sega begins releasing games for competing consoles. it costs 2,000,000 per game, and brings in 1,500,000 in revenue each month the game is on shelves.

[X] Sega's always on the hunt for new and upcoming talent.... and there's a lot of talent in America. Sega establishes the Sega Technical Institute, a dedicated American development studio meant to bridge the gap between the American and Japanese branches, in San Francisco, California. Costs $15mil to start, but all Sega Technical Institute-developed games will be free and have an extra two dice, regardless of OTL release. Unlocks "SegaTech R&D" Research Path.

[X] Hey, it's football season right now, right? So, why not go after one of the biggest names in Football? No, not John Madden. Sega spends $5.5mil on Joe Montana's likeness. Unlocks "Joe Montana Football" on the List. Unlocks "Sega Sports" Research Path. Can spend an additional $20mil for the NFL license

[X] Viacom's Nickelodeon game show team is planning to do a game show based around video games, and Sega's a major partner. While the show will be focused mainly around trivia and assorted challenges, there will be segments where video games will be played -console agnostic, but Sega could partially fund the show... and they have ideas on how to tie in with the show. Sega plans to invest in the show until its release in January 1992, and the more they spend, the longer the show will last... Spend $Xmil to invest in Nick Arcade, where X is an integer between 1-9. Unlocks "Nick Arcade Adventure" and "Nick Arcade Face-Off" for release. Needs at least $30mil to launch one season and $10mil after that per season.

[X] With how successful Sega has been these past two months, maybe it's time to start buying some development teams to bolster their resources. Unlocks "Acquisitions" Support Paths.
[X] Codemasters' Camerica division recently put out a game called Micro Machines that came with a unique J-Cart design; coming out of the box with two additional control ports. So... six player racing game? Sega might be interested. Costs $2mil, adds one Codemasters J-Cart every year until 1993, and unlocks "Nonstandard Cartridges" Research.

[X] Nintendo currently has Capcom locked down... or do they? Sega is hoping to license some Capcom games to develop for the Sega Genesis on their own. Costs 2,000,000 per game, but guarantees an additional 1,000,000 for each game, and adds Sega-Developed Capcom games to the list until 1990.

[X] SNK recently put out this red behemoth in the arcades that's doing numbers over all other 16-bit consoles. There's an opportunity there. Spend $1.5mil to get SNK support. Guarantees at least three SNK games a year until 1995. Unlocks "Sega on SNK" Research Path

[X] Psygnosis, a popular British computer programming house has been tapped to work on Nick Arcade's Face-Off. Because of this, they were brought to Sega's attention. Spend $2mil to get Psygnosis developer support. Unlocks Psygnosis-developed games.

[X] That Final Fantasy thing sure sounds like a hoot, why don't we give them kits for our shiny new toy. That'll ruffle that plumber's feathers! Costs $10mil, adds at least three Square titles on the list every year until End of Cycle, and unlocks "Final Fantasy I & II" and "Final Fantasy III" for voting. Also unlocks Enix in future Support paths.

[X] Everyone's gotta start somewhere, and for future star of the video game world Playstation Studios, that's Sony Imagesoft... and they've brought their own films to the party. Adds at least one Columbia Pictures licensed title on the list every year until December 1994.

Research

[X] Might it be possible to invest in some of our plans to get some of our new tech out sooner? Sega has a lot of capital just sitting there. Invest $Xmil into one of the following projects: Super Scaler Upgrade Path, Sega CD Upgrade Path. Every $5mil is one month shaved off of development time.

Genesis Super Scaler is planned for July 1991
Sega Mega CD is planned for October 1992

[X] Since talks have begun with Nickelodeon on their game show, perhaps you could use this to plug some cool new stuff... including upcoming releases. Unlocks "Nick Arcade Plug" Development Path.

[X] So, the Game Boy. It's been doing numbers for a hot minute. Atari's Lynx handheld came out last month and that was a bit of a beef. What does Sega have up their sleeve? Perhaps looking at the competition would reveal some clues. Begin developing "Sega Game Gear" handheld system.

[X] Sega isn't a stranger to the home computer world; though perhaps it's not the right time... then again, with Windows 3.1 on the horizon, maybe it is. Unlocks "Sega PC" Development Path.

[X] Soon enough, Super Scaler won't be enough. Soon enough, Sega will have to start looking into polygonal graphics. Unlocks "Sega Model 1" Development Path.

Development
Due to recent revelations, a possibility has opened... but the window is only open for so long.

Yikes. Shouzou Kaga's strategy game Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light ran into a lot of trouble with development, even with Nintendo's assistance and Gunpei Yokoi's expertise. The game came out, was good, but could have been even better. While the original game will be a Nintendo exclusive, there is a possibility to change history and brand Fire Emblem with the blue and white mark of Sega over the red and white of Nintendo... or perhaps...

[X] Offer $50mil to Shouzou Kaga to purchase Fire Emblem as an in-house Sega franchise. Fire Emblem will replace all instances of the Shining series. Release at least one Fire Emblem game every year until End of Cycle. Each Fire Emblem game will start with seven dice.

[X] Offer $25mil to Nintendo to co-purchase Fire Emblem as a joint venture between Nintendo and Sega. Fire Emblem games will alternate consoles until end of Quest. The games will release once every two years, but in return, Fire Emblem will double in value.

[X] Invest $Xmil in Shouzou Kaga to improve development of Fire Emblem as an independent contractor. Sega will gain royalties on each copy of Fire Emblem sold on Nintendo platforms; and retain the option to purchase the series outright. If this is done, replace all further instances of the Shining series with Fire Emblem.

[X] Do nothing. The offer is only available for the next two months.

I really want to do this and invest something reasonable. Do want to know how much we have before I possible suggest something between 150 - 500 mil.

Not sure how many seasons that would amount to, but a large amount would probably be funny. Don't want to spend all our money though.

I'm not sure what to get behind for support. Main thing I'm sure about are the Acquisitions and Sony. Maybe SNK and Psygnosis, maybe Final Fantasy. Beyond those I don't know.

...Hm...I'm tempted by this and combined with the polygon option who knows. Overall not quite sure but maybe $30mil in the CD?

If doing the game show might as well do this one as well.

This could be interesting. Would certainly be the differences between portables and counsels.

[X] Sega isn't a stranger to the home computer world; though perhaps it's not the right time... then again, with Windows 3.1 on the horizon, maybe it is. Unlocks "Sega PC" Development Path.

...I'm curious to see where this could go and will likely integrate the things were researching as well. Plus the possible paths such as connecting to the internet.

Would be the whole things like connecting portable devices to interact with eachother (Which did help inspire Pokemon) to LAN and overall multiplayer without splitscreen though that would still be used.

Overall seems like a good ideal but would have to see how things go.

[X] Soon enough, Super Scaler won't be enough. Soon enough, Sega will have to start looking into polygonal graphics. Unlocks "Sega Model 1" Development Path.

Were still working on Super Scaler but this would also be a good ideal. Polygons are certainly a major thing along with vertexs. Process for making videogames have been simplified some by programs like 3ds Max to Blender, let alone game engines like Unreal.

Random thought would be Game Engine. ...Also it's slipping my mind but I recall something about this one company that used to be relied on heavily for multiplayer and when things happened with it pretty much ruined the ability to use multiplayer for a lot of old games. Though some have done work arounds and companies are using their own stuff. Main reason bringing it up would be to probably just outright do our own service for multiplayer then rely on that or whatever.

Also a old game which some joke the company who owns it can't shut the servers down with the last time they tried leading to them having a lot of trouble. Leading to the joke that the entire company's digital infrustructure must be going through the game's server somehow.

I'm fine with any of these but kinda tempted for the co-purchase one. Investing could also work.

I could possibly make a plan, but I have no ideal what the current funding amount is. Plus in general it being rather late for me.

This is a must, both for the research and to have the American and Japanese branches working together much better.
Sega created STI in real life, and it didn't do much to help the different branches cooperate. Though it did give the Sonic developers a place to go when they were sick of the Japanese branch, so we might want to start it anyway in order to get Sonic 3 to succeed.

We're literally rivals with Nintendo, why should we cooperate with them anyways? I'd like the Fire Emblem series to gain more traction than IOTL...

Also I wonder if we can invest and offer to Interplay as a way to save them and release their games on our consoles like a remaster of Wasteland and eventually the Fallout series as I'd like to save the latter from Bethesda (aka Zenimax).

We are definitely doing this!
Sad to lose the shining series but Fire Emblem get is a nice smaller rpg that we take from nintendo

This is a must, both for the research and to have the American and Japanese branches working together much better.
Yeah a must get for me, we need to expand into American talent and later European talent, be a truly global company

Awareness: 30.5 mil
Support: 12 mil
Research: 0 mil
Development: 50 mil
Total: 92.5 mil

Early thoughts pending some questions.

For Awareness, no reason to port our games, we want people buying our consoles to get market share and get 3rd party fees as well. Instead setup STI to open up more American dev and hopefully reduce tensions with the Japan office. For football lets see if we can make a move into sports, if we can get our sports brand established that can be a big money maker short and long term and football is a great game to get people to buy console, not to mention hitting the other major sports in NA. Nothing on the Nick show yet until I am more clear on how it works but supporting that is a way to get our name out there more and a way to advertise beyond the more traditional means.

For support- key acquisitions to bring in talent and IP can be critical. Psygnosis has released a game already so why not see what else they have for us and is European support which will help our European office with sales where sega did best in the genesis era OTL. With Phantasy Star in the works time to open up Square negotiations with those hopefully coming later so they dont stop Phantasy Star from making in roads in the west but that and nabbing Enix support for Dragon Quest will be very nice. Lastly lay the groundwork with Sony to get some games from them, depending on how things go we could keep them out of the console market and only as a 3rd party. At a minimum it is another NA developer (I think Imagesoft was in California) that we can attract to work with us.

For research all 4 seem useful paths, though Game Gear we will have to figure out how to overcome the Pokemon issue. So might as well unlock them. Sega PC path might also let us nab some PC only devs to hopefully discourage MS from joinging later and opening up new revenue paths and more IP we can also translate to the console.

I am thinking about if we want to try and slim some time off of the super scaler. Sega CD is something we want to have more time to mature so we can invest money in it later... actually super scaler is delaying some games so going to spend some money to shave off time and likely do so each prep phase. So 10 mil each prep phase until it launches might work.

For development as much as shining is a good series it is not as good as the Fire Emblem series so the chance to nab that from under Nintendo is way too tempting.

Thoughts?

That seems like a good plan, doing a 'Sega PC' one would help attract studios like EA, LucasArts and Interplay as it would be good to have their games like Wasteland, Monkey Island series and eventually in '97, Fallout series, the latter we could buy as a way to save it from Zenimax/Bethesda.
Yeah and OTL sega did have a sega pc push for a while, part of why they picked up creative assembly. I am not sure how big sega PC will be but this is also a different time and place than the modern gaming market.

We're literally rivals with Nintendo, why should we cooperate with them anyways? I'd like the Fire Emblem series to gain more traction than IOTL...
Because blood is bad for business. Money spent on screwing Nintendo over is money not spent on making more money. Moreover, having at least one positive business relationship with Nintendo means they're significantly less likely to try to screw us over.

If X is 1 to 9, how do we get to 30mil or more? Is this something we need to invest in each prep phase and the cumulative value is what counts?

So yeah, this is an over time thing. You invest in the project over a period of Prep Phases and once you reach $30 mil Nick Arcade would be fully funded. Then you can keep investing to keep the show going and thus, keep the effect going. Who knows? You might be able to then purchase the project outright?

I really want to do this and invest something reasonable. Do want to know how much we have before I possible suggest something between 150 - 500 mil.

Not sure how many seasons that would amount to, but a large amount would probably be funny. Don't want to spend all our money though.

At the moment: $892,400,000. We are just shy of a billion due to poor balancing on my part
