The Enemy Within (WHF Witch Hunter Quest)

Not too confident on a outright raid when the enemy has a competent witch. They don't know we know about their ritual, but if they're smart, they'll be ready for us just in case.

I say we get a man on the inside first. They'll be prepared for a Witch Hunter and his retinue, but they won't expect one of theirs turning their backs on the ordo. A raid would be so much more successful if we had Magirius on our side, and hopefully, he can devote his resources to actually helping the poor of the town after this.

That roll!!! Best time to have some good luck for once. Helps that it was a +20 test - guess the approach was a good one?

Heal skill of how many? O_O yes yes absolutely if she's offering her services we're taking it. So what if she's a criminal, we're getting along just fine with a legbreaker and a witch! :V

Do we know that it was 'Magirius' that was the one who showed reluctance during the meeting?
We don't know exactly, but it fits his profile. Magirius genuinely believes the ordo is a organization to help the poor and bypass red tape, we passed our inuit check after all and it is in the interest of the ordo to keep their face ignorant of their darker dealings.

It's highly likely that the uncomfortable voice is Magirius.

Try another demon.
In the ritual circle the candles ignite, purple flames belching forth great clouds of blue-white smoke that flows like water through the air.

"Sheru'tar Gee'taru will tear out your heart,"

On the upper floor of the Steinhäger house, a silhouette limed in purple light briefly appears in one of the windows, disappearing again a moment later.

"That, Spätin, was another spellcaster, one who knows what they are actually doing," you growl, choosing not to share your suspicion that it might have been something far worse.

Authorities are going right out. If we reveal how we got the information then they'll toss the evidence out with last weeks fish. The ritual is probably also something that we should be wary of. The Warlock/Witch in the meeting detected our intrusion so now they'll be even more on guard during it.

I completely missed that. In that case, definitely not going to do a raid without extra support. A demon knows we listened in, so the cultists will be ready for us. They'll be prepared for a outright assault so we need someone on the inside to help us bypass those preparations.

I would really suggest against a outright raid. The enemy knows we're coming and will be prepared accordingly. They have a demon, a defensive position, and a ton of bodyguards while we have a Witch Hunter and 2 other people who can fight (Spätin and Max).

Those are not good odds. We need support, and Magirius is our best bet. Let's take advantage of the opportunity we got thanks to our earlier rolls because we're absolutely going to need it.

Being a criminal just means granny Elvyra will fit right in with this party honestly
Markus is the face that gives this ragtag group of vagabonds and knaves a veneer of respectability and legal coverage

As for the raid... is it just going to be the four of them crashing the party if that option gets chosen @Maugan Ra ?
If so then that's a rather dicey proposition
It's unknown how much of the Ordo is actually aware of their darker dealings, but even just the inner circle plus their bodyguards is a risky proposition for just four adventurers, one of whom has no direct combat skills
Especially when they've been alerted to the fact that someone was eavesdropping on their conversation
I don't think they saw specifically who but it's easy enough to guess, and at bare minimum they'll be expecting some kind of action against their ritual

If we're kicking down the door with a bunch of meatshields guards on side then that equation maybe changes
Otherwise I think we'll need to leverage more advantages, and our insight into Magirius is something they won't know about
If we can convince him to roll over on the Ordo then his word will guarantee support without Edel blocking it

Raiding the ritual is likely to result in a lot of collateral due to the festival, methinks. We've got to keep it on the down low. If we can get a man on the inside, we can probably get in there all quiet like, with some additional reinforcements perhaps. It'd help us avoid all their bodyguards at the very least.

@Maugan Ra if we can't get the watch and other normal authorities for assistance in a future raid, can we ask the priest we just convinced to help us provide some help? Nothing fancy like the watch, just more bodies like the gang that tried to intimidate Markus. Can we also ask Max (and in the future Magirius if possible) to help us get the assistance of the more violent gangs or sympathetic guards in the city during the raid under the promise of coin? I'm sure they'll at least be cheaper than mercenaries.

I'm not even worried about causing a scene (This whole thing is probably going to go down in a relatively secluded location), at least not immediately
Edel will probably hear about the door kicking afterward and get huffy
How huffy depends on how successful we are and what kind of irrefutable evidence we can secure

I'm more concerned and worried about the actual logistics of trying to crash a ritual where the cultists are actively expecting interference and outnumber you
We could hope that they all have noodly nerd arms and can't stop us from shoving them into the back of the paddy wagon, but the update notes that they all have bodyguards and escorts
With 20 men guarding their meeting location

They'll probably bring less muscle to the ritual, because they need to act in secrecy, but even a half a dozen to a dozen goons could be a real problem
This is not a system where being outnumbered is to be taken lightly

I figure our odds of getting Magirius to talk are a whole lot better than trying to track a bunch of cultists who are almost certainly aware that somebody will be trying to follow them. We can then get the intel from Magirius. Plus, a confession freely given will almost certainly do wonders in terms of getting us official backup for the raid.

Pressure the Wavering sounds like a more interesting scene and more unique results than a full raid might.

I would go for the raid if we had previously formed a connection with the guard and could bring them in. Without those extra bodies I don't feel confident in our chances.
