A Trainer's Journey

Another close fought battle, but we eked out another win!

Enjoyed Lavender's naming sense.

Hopefully we dont lose points for Beatrix faiting :V

Morning Sun is a self heal that's more powerful if there's more sunlight
I can confirm that no tournament will penalize Beatrix if she's the one who faints, unless her pokemon are locked in their Poke ball and unable to continue the battle :rofl2:

Chapter 12: Baby's first tournament 4
And here's the third battle of the group phase. I think I'll give myself a break and do an abridged version of the semifinals.

[x] VS Mawile and Mareep
-[x] Since Mawile only has Fairy Wind that can hit Hop, have him dodge tank and spray Swift at the enemy team with healing from Lavender while she goes and does what she does best: Stomp the little sheep in the heart Use Hypnosis and Confusion to harry and hinder then try to double team the Mawile once the Mareep has been dealt with.

September 13
Beatrix felt sick for at least three different reasons this morning.

Firstly, she had had her "mind blown" by her Pokemon. That was apparently the popular term, anyway. Her accidental exposure to the entirety of Lavender's mind for a few seconds forced her to sleep for fourteen hours, and she still had the occasional thunderous headache that made her wince.

Secondly, of all the group matches, this was the one that worried her the most, even after discovering that both Hop and Lavender had aces up their sleeves. Morning Sun would not be as effective without a Pokemon using Sunny Day, but between it and Heal Pulse, she thought they might manage a win by attrition if their plan A failed. Between this and Hop now having a move that could relatively efficiently damage Mawile, she was forcing herself to feel confident.

Thirdly, she did something she felt guilty about: she assumed that Mawile and her trainer came from the Iron Islands -the only natural habitat of the species in Sinnoh- and thus was probably not rich enough to buy a TM. The Iron Islands were poor, after all; their only real industries were mining and raising a few select Steel Pokemon for the Canalave Gym.

Nevertheless, she roused herself, cuddled with Cinnamon, and took a much-needed shower -thank the Legendaries for that, she didn't know how she'd managed eleven days on the Route with only the occasional dip in Coronet's meltwater torrents- before letting Lavender out of her Poke Ball near the arena. She immediately went to play with Hop, who she seemed to be going along very well with. Cinnamon gave him a friendly, but more reserved greeting from his perch on Beatrix's shoulders before he returned to nestling around the back of her neck like the world's awkwardest scarf. "The rascal is probably hoping to get a snack before the battle," she thought with a smile.

The girls in front of them were both wiry in a way Beatrix was vaguely jealous of, though it seemed to be more the result of an active lifestyle than a conscious effort. One was one of the many great-grandchildren of the Cafe Cabin's original owner, giving encouraging pats to a well-brushed Mareep. The other was still murmuring in a Mawile's ears.

At the referee's signal, Hop jumped as Lavender's eyes shone lilac blue. They'd received their instructions before the start of the match... multiple times. As their opponents had, evidently. Mareep attempted to intercept Hop in the air with a few small lightning bolts -Thunder Shock, Beatrix realized- but Buneary was too quick, and the Electric type too slow to use his move. The Buneary had already dodged and retaliated by sending a Swift barrage to intercept Mawile, who was trying to close distance with Lavender.

The Ponyta held strong, trusting her partner to keep Mawile off of her as Hypnosis took effect for the first time in the tournament. Mareep's head dipped down, and he fell asleep on his feet. Beatrix pumped her fist in the sky. "Good job Lavender!" She called out. Mawile was still trying to get through Hop's bombardment, but she wasn't exactly a fast runner -short legs will do that- and Buneary's Swift, even if they were making very little damage, were not so easy to ignore that she could just keep running when they were raining down. At the very least, she had to use her maw to cover her face. When she finally got close, Lavender, who was still dazed after her successful use of Hypnosis, bolted away without the need for Beatrix to give out any order.

"Use Fairy Wind instead!" the islander called out. "Take that damn Buneary down! Get an Astonish on Ponyta if you can!"

"Use Confusion, stay away from her. Do not let her use Astonish on you" Beatrix instructed.

Fairy Wind manifested first. The air around Mawile became tinged pink with malevolent Fairy-Type Energy, that slowly started to accelerate toward Hop, giggling sounds accompanying the wooshing of moving air. Mawile was skilled with this move, molding it so it came down on Hop, preventing him from jumping around.

Ponyta maintained her use of Confusion on Mawile, but Beatrix could see that her fey nature let her ignore the psychic component of the move almost entirely. Meanwhile, her body, and especially her maw, was too tough for a Buneary's Swift to make solid hits either. Beatrix glanced at Sarah, who nodded, then signaled Ponyta discreetly. She didn't move when Mawile started charging toward the Psychic type with her Fairy Wind still ongoing. She made it less than five meters to Lavender when Hop appeared in front of her and utilized her momentum to use Circle Throw against her.

"For a Steel type, Mawile is surprisingly light," Beatrix observed. Hop had struggled to use Circle Throw against Rhyhorn, even with the help of his momentum and Fighting-type Energy reinforcing his muscles. He even needed a Potion to heal various muscle injuries later on. Mawile, on the other hand, he sent flying. She crashed down to the ground on the other side of the arena, tried to stand back up, gave a hopeful look to the still-sleeping Mareep to no avail, and started up another Fairy Wind at her trainer's urging.

A handful of stars passed under her maw's guard and finally, finally, she fainted.

"So, I wanted to ask for a favor," Sarah asked, not quite daring to make eye contact as they relaxed after celebrating their victory with treats with extra cherries for their Pokemon. Since they'd qualified directly to the semifinals, the girls' next battle would be two days later, and they had no way of knowing who their opponent would be, so their only option was to relax and train... or so Beatrix thought. "There's a rumor going around about people hearing Swablu cries just a few hours north of here. I looked it up, and apparently a Ranger slipped up and confirmed it when some trainer asked him about it. I want to try to catch one, but I heard that the portion of Route 210 north of the Cafe Cabin is easy to get lost in. Do you think you could come along? Between your Pokemons and Hop, I'd feel much safer."

"Shouldn't you wait until the end of the tournament?" Beatrix asked, a little put out. If the other girl got lost, they'd both get disqualified, after all.

Sarah's lips shivered, but she didn't break eye contact. "I sis a lot of research on the kind of Pokemon I'd like to catch, you know ? I've always wanted a Swablu, and it's rare to see some so far south on Route 210. By the time the tournament is over, someone else will have caught them or scared them away, considering how fast the information is spreading."

That made sense to Beatrix. Altaria, the evolved form of Swablu, was one of the least rare Dragon Pokemon in Sinnoh, but they were dragons nonetheless, and very much sought after. Any Swablu that left the mists of Route 210 would be a prime target for trainers. There was also the fact that they were both heading toward Veilstone after the tournament, and Hop was a normal type.

Beatrix considered things for a moment and decided to…

[] accept to help Sarah catch a Swablu

[]Refuse, train Lavender to prepare for the end of the tournament, and try to convince Sarah to wait until after the tournament to get a Swablu.

Sarah will not join your group. Dice roll (50%) to convince her to stay and train for the end of the tournament
If you fail, Sarah has a 75% chance of catching Swablu. A roll of 1 means she gets lost and you are disqualified. Lavender learns Fairy Wind.
If you succeed, Hop learns
Triple Axel, Lavender learns Fairy Wind. Sarah has a 40% chance to get Swablu after the tournament.

[]Promise to help her after the tournament

60% chances of convincing her:
If you succeed: It will take 1 to 4 days after the tournament, with a 75% chance of success, Sarah is guaranteed to join your group if you find a Swablu and has a 75% chance to join if you fail. Lavender will learn
Fairy Wind, Hop will learn Triple Axel
If you fail: Dice roll to see if Sarah catches her little cloud (50% chance). A roll of 1 means she gets lost and you are disqualified. Dice roll to see if Sarah will be willing to join your group after the tournament (60% base chance, +30% if she manages to capture Swablu without help). Lavender learns Fairy Wind.

Voting starts in an hour and will last for 44 hours so I can start writing Tuesday evening, hopefully.
Remember, comments and criticism make for a happy author!!!

I honestly can't imagine any argument anyone could make that would stop me from voting this.
And i would even if we were guaranteed disqualification for doing so.

Fun fact, I threw a coin every time Lavender used Hypnosis in one of those battles. This was her only success, and Mareep failed every roll to wake up.

I have no desire to be friends with someone who wishes to risk our tournament position off of a rumor. Like yeah, ooc we can see that the Swablu is indeed very real, but IC it seems rather selfish and a little silly. Especially since she is very willing to go try it without any help at all in the middle of things.

I forgot a sentence in my draft. I'll edit something in tomorrow, my notes had her finding out the rumor came from a Ranger report and I forgot to implement it in text.
