Being Taylor Hebert is a (Second Attempt at a) Quest

This Taylor's power never got detected so she just treats it as a symptom of a brain injury. Wonder how often that happens for lower-tier Thinkers.
Oh, this power is tinsy even by thinker standards. Enough that the combat drive was sated by a militaristic job, maybe?

assume if Taylor ends up dead it's an invalid exit.
I tried to encourage creativity in the only thread by telling people what would have happened if they'd selected no, it was more just me trying to be funny and failing but feel free to imagine the weirdness of one lobe in Taylor's brain time travelling and the rest staying.

Feels like voting half-blind because there's a second thread out there somewhere? (Probably SB, but this says SV and we're already on SV.)
Oops! Thanks for letting me know about that, I format it for SB and SV on one site and then copy paste to the other must have forgotten to switch round each.
Here's the SB thread. Should I have it linked in the blurb?

Aka, Trigger, the roguelite. This is a second attempt at a time loop quest I started a few years back. Hopefully I'm better at planning this time round. Thanks to Lux and Ardent for letting me ramble about it to you guys for far too long. Crossposted on SV

Might be useful to let everyone have a link to see the other side of the conversation, yeah.

SB seems to want aware and SV is leaning towards wiggle, but I've promised a 10 yr old they can play tiebreaker, I will definitely share their reasoning if their services are needed.

Loop 2.1
Quite possibly the most unique tiebreaking method ever devised on both sites.
Lol, maybe that can be my particular gimmick! They picked aware, by the way, on the reasoning of "That's the thing that is most likely to help you escape the loop."
...
Anyway, here's Wonderwall.

Deet Deet Deet…. Deet Deet Deet… Deet Deet De-

A slender hand slams down on the battered old alarm clock. Your hand, in fact. And who is that hand attached to? Well, Taylor Hebert, of course. Were you expecting someone else? Your head aches like Emma showed up with a hammer in the middle of the night, and is filled with foreboding. Must have been a nightmare. Or a memory. You're in a foul mood and you know exactly why.
The first day back at school. Winter break is over, and now it's back to Emma, and Sophia. They seemed to be getting a little bored before Christmas, and as horrible as you feel for hoping harm on someone else, they seemed more interested in that new girl, Madison… Clements, you think. She's not exactly been nice to you, but at least she didn't pretend you didn't exist like most of the rest of the class.

Christmas helped distract you as well. Your father, Danny Hebert, got you some new bags and jotters to replace some ruined ones, and you picked up some tools you didn't really understand but he wanted for some Do-it-yourself projects. Maybe he'll even fix the bad step! You hope. He won't.

A pot of coffee is half empty in the kitchen, the only sign that Dad is also awake, and you pour yourself a hot cup, warming your cold fingers on the "Book Lover? No, Bookaholic!" mug. Shouldn't it be dirty? You're sure you used it yesterday… A bowl of cereal, and you mull over the surprise gift that came in the mail, a few days late.

It was
[ ] The local elections are coming in, Dad grumbled, as he unwrapped a frilly gift basket from the Mayor's office. This happened last time as well, but 4 years ago the promises of the current mayor seemed a bit less hollow, like he actually might help the docks. The chocolate is nice, though.

[ ] Well. It was flowers with a card, but when that opened to have a swastika inside, Dad burned it out in the front drive. Best to be absolutely clear about what you think about those sorts of things. There were some matches left over.

[ ] Famous Flute Music for Beginners. From the oh so friendly Barnes family. It doesn't take a genius to guess who suggested that idea, or why. Maybe you can slap her with it.

It sits within view, and you're honestly considering taking it to school, if you can keep it out of harm's way. You scowl into the milk of the bowl. It's probably not a good idea. Unless it saves you. You question your own thoughts as you munch away. The bullying is terrible, yes, but it's not life threatening.

With a huff, you toss the breakfast dishes in the sink. You'll wash them when you're home, and you have to move to catch the bus. Teeth, bag, yell out that that's you going, and out the door you go.

[ ] Master - You were betrayed, everything was taken from you, exiled from everything that you should have had the opportunity to have. You are failing all your subjects, when before you were able to get into Arcadia!

[ ] Tinker - Things have been building up and up. Worse and worse. Where can it go from here, what will your bullies escalate to now?

[ ] Thinker - You feel so hopeless to stop the bullying. You don't know why it started, you don't know why it calmed down just before the break. Every day is a roll of the dice and it's terrifying.

Here, you, go. Again.

Was the original quest only on SV?

I would like an additional data point to see if anything changes.

Considering last time we selected thinker not tinker I agree.

The halls are bustling with people, all calling for friends, yelling slurs you would never want to say, or hiding from the slur-yellers. You just keep your head down, trying to remain unnoticed, until a cheerful arm hooks around your shoulders. The familiar sights and sounds build up the tension inside of you, building and building, all the fear and pain your mind ties to this hellhole welling up.

"Taylor Hebert! It's so good to see you again! How was your Christmas?" The bright loud voice has drawn eyes to you, and the theatre kids you were tagging along with edge away, making clear to all the watchers they weren't trying to help you. You flinch away from the arm that tries to drape over your shoulders, pulling away.

And the person clinging to you? Well, that's Madison Clements, who's either the most oblivious person you've ever met, or a clever new tactic by Emma to try and make you drop your guard. You're still uncertain, and Madison's determination to befriend and draw attention to you doesn't exactly help. Madison mock glowers at you before bursting out into fake-sounding laughter. She grabs your shoulder, rougher this time, and you can't pull away in time. She bundles you into her side, and starts to ramble about her holidays, pulling you towards where both of your lockers are.

You catch the blood-red of Emma's hair in the corner of your eye, and try to hide behind the oblivious girl beside you. Emma and Sophia know you have to get your books from your locker, you'll just have to get there and away as fast as possible.
Three corridors away. Two corridors away. A smell of rot draws your attention, but you can't guess from what. Maybe an unemptied bin? The janitor wouldn't go near the junior nazis, they could be too close to a full bin to risk emptying? Your mind drifts along various pathways to try and distract yourself from the stress, but it isn't helping. Your breathing is fast as you glance back again and again. Listening for that voice you know so well. Just get to your locker and everything will be fine. Everything will be fine. Everything will be fine.
Everything will not be fine. You don't know how you react in time, but you do, stumbling backwards from Madison's unflinching grasp just in time to dodge Sophia's hit. The fist instead drives into the other girl's ribs, and she falls to the ground with a whimpering sound of pain.

And before your eyes, Sophia Hess helps the false-faced girl up and lets her go, before turning to you with a snarl on her face.

"Hebert."

Let's change our futures, then.

Just do the same thing over and over again, until some random quantum fluctuation collapse in different state than in previous loop and give us different result. Stay DETERMINED.
