Salted Sands (A Caves of Qud-Inspired Cultivation Quest)

[X] Do it

There is absolutely going to be a price for this, the Sands would demand nothing less. But all the same we need every advantage we can in this world to protect us and ours.

What appeared on Julika's face could be called a smile. It had all the composite parts of a smile, the corners of her mouth tilted up as her lips peeled back to reveal her teeth, but all it took was a single look to tell there was something off, something not quite right.
An animalistic fervor radiated from the twisting of her lips, a rabid feroc
"Name your price," Julika Lash smiles and the world recoils.

Love her. Love her so much.

"You've come to the right woman, Kell!" She cackles as she dances towards where she made her entry, a hand gesturing for Karter and Kell to follow, "Finally, a chance to see if my theories are true!"

Adore her

"The overall theory," Julika explains as she leads Kell and Karter through the winding, twisting halls of the inner library, "is to harness the inherently temperamental nature of the Sands in order to trick reality into thinking that you've done the whole training, which I believe will result in your body retroactively adjusting to fit with what reality says is the case. Effectively," she says, coming to a stop before a door leading to, presumably, her office, "you skip the whole boring breathing exercise stuff and jump right into the interesting meat of it!"

YES, THATS THE FUCKING WITH REALITY STRATS I ADORE SEEINV

A deep sigh escapes Julika as she unlocks her door and lets it swing open, "Nobody ever wants to participate in my experiments!" She stomps inside, muttering about 'cowardly, unworthy scientists' and that 'science demands sacrifice'. Karter claps Kell on the shoulder, a grim tilt to his posture, before both follow Julika in.

Yes a thousand times yes

Julika Lash is such a mad scientist and it's really charming to see.

[X] Do it

This will be really interesting regardless of what happens, and it's for SCIENCE.

Hey Karter, how do you court someone?
Like hypothetically someone who lived in Nash

"Courting someone from Nash...?" Karter holds Kell's gaze for a long moment, suspicion clear in his shattered eyes. "Well, I guess you'd have to start with a gesture of sorts. Get the word out there, you know? Courting isn't one-sided, at least it shouldn't be."

😬

I'm impressed that Karter just offered himself up to be vivisected like that? Though, have we seen him shirtless? Are his lungs already exposed somehow? Concern.

Julika… yeah, she's great. Dig the strong mad science vibes.

Wondering how long this will take… are we definitely going to miss the return caravan? How far away are the sands?

Regardless, as has been said, seems like it would be sort of foolish to turn back now after coming all this way. Even if it doesn't work, it will definitely be interesting.

For the record, this is happening after your return to Melka. The trip back itself isn't going to have much focus on it, maybe a scene or two. The meat and potatoes of the next update, should you decide to go through with the experiment, is the experiment.

I am very, very excited for it.

Alright, I have a clarifying question to ask of you folks.

Are you wanting to also scouting the Baron's palace while you're in Nash? That wasn't noted in your plan, so I'm not quite sure.

As the writer of the plan that won, I was operating on the assumption we might not have time for anything else once we were done with Julika's cultivation idea, so we'd do that first and if we complete it and still have time before the caravan leaves (or the caravan has already left and our time is no longer quite as limited), then we might do something else (such as scouting out the Baron's place).

So...probably not before the experiment? Unless we have time now but only if we rejoin the caravan directly after the experiment by not going back to Nash or something.

Yeah, I'll probably have Julika explain the experiment in greater detail as the main thrust of the update while giving you an option to scout the Baron
