Yep, that's a valid idea. It'll make it a lot harder for Team Rocket to try and break through overall.

I'm down for Staryu's Idea, though I can see it having a high DC.

SO I'm picking an underdog. I like a smidge of contrarian options now and again.
 
I think Staryu's idea is more likely to have low immediate DCs(due to ambushing lone rockets), but the fast tempo means we'd probably need an R&R turn after.

Just because they're alone doesn't mean the DC will be low odds are it might actually be the opposite since being alone implies strength not weakness for coordinated operations. Separate to this the DC will rise over time for both the combat encounters themselves as well as our odds of walking into something we shouldn't due to exhaustion setting in for both Pokemon as well as trainer.

It's probably the second most dangerous plan at the end of the day, to be honest second only to Willow's idea which is pretty much the exact same except it forgoes the numerical advantage as well. Every other plan goes to some effort to stack the deck further in our favor which is probably a good idea considering we're still only a one-badge trainer.

Alright, I'll be calling the vote here. Looks like you're going for Staryu's plan, which is somewhat surprising to me honestly. As it is, that one was the riskiest overall just due to the sheer rate of activity. That being said, it's also the one best served for seizing initiative and capturing Team Rocket members.

    [X] Violet's Idea - By combing the mountains carefully, you can isolate 1-2 Team Rocket trainers and attack them with overwhelming force. Safe and straightforward, it's almost evil as to how unfair it is.


Well, this is going to be far more exciting than I thought. As it is, it looks like a few members of Team Rocket are able to intercept you at one point leading to a fair bit of chaos.

Looks like we found a couple of big-shot Rockets hopefully we just dodged those fights and focused on the ones we could potentially take out otherwise this might get ugly.

As it is, that is what happens for the first few encounters, with you and Willow managing to take down around 6 Team Rocket trainers over the first two days. On the third day, however, the two of you run into a larger, more dangerous group of Rockets (1-2 trainers, still deciding on the number) which is going to cause some issues.

Yeah to me this is definitely a "Violet should have as many pokemon out as she can" just because crowd control / status proccing the low levels for easy threat control.
If we manage this, well that's gonna be really good for us, I feel.
 
Uh, what Pokemon do and do not count towards Houndoom's STAB Beat Up? Because the last thing I want is to be run over by a Beat Up that should have enough power behind it to sweep anything that isn't Pineco in one go. It won't be relevant for this fight since Dratini can outspeed and sweep all the chaff at the start of the fight but if we ever encounter another Beat Up user in the future it'll be important to know if just the trainer's own team counts for the move or if all allied Pokemon do.

If the latter is the case we could end up with some pretty funny situations like a Houndoom using a five-hundred strike Beat Up or something in a really large battle. :V

Dratini outspeeds everything on the field so we should lead with a Twister from it to sweep all the chaff before the fight starts, and save Self Destruct until the Rockets put the rest of their teams on the field since those are the threats that could potentially win them the fight not the presently weak field. And, at that point even if all eight Pokemon count for Houndoom's STAB Beat Up it doesn't matter since the move will have been brought back in line with the rest of its STAB moves due to half of them no longer counting.

At that point, we can paralyze, and confuse Houndoom with Dratini, and Chansey effectively rendering it irrelevant enough that Dratini can focus on using Wrap on it well Chansey goes to help with other fights. Arbok is harder to deal with since resists Bug, and has Fire Fang making it brutally effective against Pineco, and to a lesser extent against Magnemite but Willow's team can handle it relatively easily due to its weakness to Psychic moves so Evee can handle its neutral attacks well Bronzor hits it super effectively.

That leaves Pineco, Magnemite, and Staryu free to react to whatever the two additional unknown Pokemon the Rockets have are during the first turn which should be enough especially with Chansey coming in at the start of turn two to help giving us a two-to-one numbers advantage, and decent type diversity.

I hadn't accounted for this and it's situational, but I once again tap "just because this is pokemon doesn't mean it follows the vidyagames to the letter" because hoooo Im Love You Houndoom regardless of if this is a yes, no, or Whatever the answer is

If the Pokemon is a dark type, it gets the STAB bonus for Beat Up. So unless their team is full of Dark type users, it's manageable. Generally it'll be the equivalent of an attack with ~12-20 power.

Edit: In case it's relevant, the other 4 Pokemon are two Rattatta and two Zubats.

This didn't really define what Pokemon do and do not count towards Beat Up for the purpose of the quest. I'm ninety-nine percent sure it'll be limited to just the members of a trainer's team but I have to ask to make sure.

Ah, I misunderstood. For this, it has to be a member of the trainer's team. So in this case Houndoom can get just two hits out of it. And generally against a trainer in almost all conditions the most will be 6 hits.

That being said, if you get Beat Up to A or S, things can change somewhat. I haven't really fluffed out exactly what happens at those levels beyond some very barebones stuff, but a S ranked Beat Up could possibly extend it to immediate allies. But even in that case it'd get a total of 8-10 hits at the most.

Kanto Week 14 Part 2 - Slight Overreach

Violet wasn't sure about Staryu's plan. She favored a much more cautious and boring approach, stacking the deck as much as they could before engaging in battle. However, Willow and Staryu made some excellent points, explaining that a more aggressive strategy would make the broader fight easier as a whole. Dratini also began to champion Staryu's plan which helped convince Violet of its viability. Pineco looked a little out of sorts, having created and refined her own plan over the hour. But while she disliked the result, she abided by it all the same.

She let Willow take the lead on the first day, and the two of them hiked swiftly through the mountains. After around an hour, however, they wound up switching, for Violet had explored the mountains before and was far more perceptive when it came to signs of human presence. It only took them a few hours to find their first Team Rocket trainer, a tall grunt with a Pidgy. Violet almost felt bad triple-teaming the trainer with Magnemite, Dratini, and Pineco.

And while she spent a few minutes cleaning up, Willow had tracked down a second trainer who also had a Pidgy. And by the time Violet caught up to her rival, Staryu, Eevee, and Bronzor had dealt with the grunt. It was only in the evening late and night where the duo ran into a trainer that may have spelled trouble … if they fought fair. When the grunt threw out a Zubat and Rattatta, Violet cocked an eyebrow and threw out everyone.

This was a much trickier affair, however, and Violet was forced to have Pineco act autonomously as she simply didn't have the mental acuity needed to control more than three Pokemon at once. Two was hard enough, three felt like she was juggling hoops. However, the numbers disparity easily won her the day, with Pineco and Magnemite taking just a single hit each during the fight.

Once done with her opponent, Violet hiked further to the designated meeting spot where Willow had set up camp for the two of them. At the shy girl's request, the two of them took a selfie together, which Violet sent to her parents. Blushing at the far too enthusiastic reply from her mom, she decided to not respond for a few hours. She didn't need, nor want past worries from her parents resurfacing in conversation.

As the sun set and the two trainers began to doze off, Violet mustered up the courage to ask Willow some more personal questions. "S-so, why did you become a trainer?"

The energetic girl grinned widely and jumped into a rather lengthy story complete with very enthusiastic, unnecessary arm motions. There weren't any real surprises in it, Willow became a trainer because she thought it was cool and had the good fortune of finding a Staryu whilst young. Since then she'd been following a somewhat niche trainer in Hoenn whose ace was a Regieleki. That influenced her style of battle considerably, with Willow focusing a lot on speed and unorthodox maneuvers (even if she still didn't have any that worked).

When the two trainers woke up the next day, they continued their devastation of Team Rocket trainers, finding another three during the day and winning through superior numbers, Pokemon, and strategy. Their next camp was a bit more haphazard, set up by Willow once more, although this time she was distracted by Eevee who had a slight injury from overexertion during the day. As a result, their fire had burned longer than they had wanted, and the camp was less put together than normal. Something which would come to bite them the following morning.

Violet woke to the sound of whispers. Shooting to her feet, she immediately hissed, "Willow, we have company."

Willow tried to get up, before remembering the sleeping bag. Unzipping it swiftly, she got to her feet and threw out Staryu and Bronzor. "How many?" Willow whispered to Violet.

Before the shy girl could answer, a man began a slow golf clap. Stepping forward into sight, Violet saw the large R on his shirt and knew exactly who this person was. "Well, well, well," he said like a stereotypical villain in a movie. "So, you're the two trainers causing us so many problems."

Willow smirked in response, very willing to engage in some trash talk. "You really are just a walking stereotype. What's next? Your goons show themselves?"

The smirk on his face immediately disappeared, replaced by an expression of intense irritation. "You got lucky with the guess, trainee." He growled, motioning forward another set of trainers.

Another trainer stepped in from behind them. Wearing a matching shirt with a large R on it, Violet immediately clocked her as being on par with the male trainer in front of them. Glancing around, the shy girls spotted four lesser trainers, each of them far below her skill level. "I'm so glad you all showed up," Willow replied with a smirk, "It's so much easier than having to hunt you down one by one."

The lead male trainer lazily tossed a Pokeball, momentarily exposing their belt of Pokeballs in the process. As a tough Houndoom appeared, Violet was more focused on the belt, spotting only a second Pokeball. "Let's see how tough you are when Houndoom breaks that stupid starfish over its knee."

"Really?" Willow asked in amusement. "You think your Houndoom can take my Staryu?" The type advantage was certainly helpful, although she would have to watch out for Thunder Fang.

"It's not a one-on-one," replied the female trainer who tossed out an Arbok with significant muscles around the jaw.

"We're gonna kick your asses all the way to Pewter you newbies!" Yelled one of the inexperienced Rockets as each of them sent their own Pokemon. Numbering a total of 2 Rattata and 2 Zubat.

Moments before a proper fight was about to begin in earnest, Violet adjusted her hat and appraisingly gazed at the Pokemon and trainers arrayed against her. The Rattata and Zubats were only issues due to their numbers, individually they were all incredibly weak. The Arbok and Houndoom were the real dangers, but the Rockets would have been better served sending out all of their Pokemon at once rather than what they were currently doing.

"Could you take the Arbok?" Willow asked in a softer voice. "I can make quick work of the Houndoom."

Violet nodded, it was doable even if Arbok would be a major problem for Pineco. And its Fire Fang could cause issues for Magnemite as well. "Will the rest be a problem?"

Willow thumbed her last Pokeball which she hadn't shown off yet. "Eevee has that handled."

Moments later, the battle began.

Violet's Thoughts: Very good at close in combat thanks to its powerful jaw, Arbok does struggle at range if a Pokemon can outspeed it. It is vulnerable to physical attacks comparatively.

Violet's Perceptive Trait Kicks in!

Willow's Staryu will use its superior speed to sneak in a Confuse Ray before swapping between Water Gun, Rapid Spin, and Minimize. It will maintain range with Houndoom forcing it into a ranged engagement.

Willow's Bronzor will hang back and step in if it looks like Staryu is in danger of being hit. It will then absorb the blow before using Gyro Ball on the Pokemon that hit it. If it finds an opportunity, it will use Confusion or Hypnosis.

Willow's Eevee will go after the four weaker Pokemon, using primarily Swift and its immense speed advantage to prevent them from interfering.

Houndoom will charge in and use Thunder Fang on Staryu and continuously try to hunt it down.

Arbok will charge at whatever the strongest Pokemon Violet sends out is and use Ice Fang, Bite, Fire Fang, or Thunder Fang based on what would be most effective against it. Arbok will be exceedingly aggressive.

The two Rattata will try and harass your Pokemon with Tail Whips and Quick Attacks.

The two Zubats will try and harass your Pokemon with Supersonic and Absorb.
