Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

Sure.

I was wondering whether the priest needs some convincing we aren't just letting him go (which would be a major 'no' to Augustanans), and I had an argument that a priest of Pharasma can imagine worse fate than being delivered into his goddess' embrace, and lean into Akorian being scary once more... but it might interfere with his beliefs, so I kept this part to myself.

Mind you, the lycan will try to run away if we give him no assurances to the contrary. Regardless of whether we indend to keep him alive (which currently I am not, the drawbacks outweigh the gains), it might be prudent to have Sirim telepathically tell him to behave and that he'll be let go. Which, admittedly, would be rather treacherous on our part, and might not be to everyone's taste.

We are chaotic. We are fine with bluffing so that he does not get he is about to die. Didn't we do that with the morlocks back then?

Not quite. We promised them nothing, and we both shared a certain understanding of where we stand:
Meanwhile, the conversation with your prisoners is getting repetitive and, on their side at least, louder. For her part, Mina seems at first perturbed than angry. "They are describing all the ways they are planning to kill, torture, and eat us. Apparently they have a tradition to cut off pieces of their prisoners and eat them in front of them."
They knew they were going to die.

This act would definitely be a little south on the alignment scale.

I don't see the point in trying to Bluff or Intimidate the Wererat at this point. It's got a low Will save and Kori can keep Detect Thoughts active until we get what we need to from its mind without it even needing to answer.

[X] We don't need to make our stay in this land any more difficult than it already is, but there is little reason not to at least try to pry some information out of the creature before it meets it's end.
-[X] Kori uses his headband to cast Detect Thoughts while questioning the Wererat about it's plans and where it would have taken the ring had it succeeded.
--[X] If it attempts to transform or escape, Gorok will finish him off and Mina and Sirim cast spells to assist, if necessary.

@DragonParadox, I was looking over Gorok's character sheet earlier because he's going to be leveling up soon. We built him with an eye toward being a Dexterity-focused two-handed weapon wielder, but there is a pretty narrow range of weapons that normally work with that; an Elven Branch Spear or Elven Curve Blade.

If we have him learn Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Curve Blade) for his 5th level feat, will there we one of those available for purchase in Augustana, or would he be able to commission one?

However, I bristle a little at the notion that I have to dispose of the prisoner because a local priest demands so. Information is valuable, and we are asked to throw it in the garbage bin for the sake of another's fear and bloodthirst. How about no? We risked our hides in this fight and bled for it, we can interrogate whoever we want, however we want, especially given that even with the lich dead, the wider plot persists. Does the lycan know anything about it? Maybe, maybe not. That's what we are to determine here.
I've really not been... too impressed with the Pharasman priest so far?

They've been... decent. But just kowtowing to them feels wrong : /

If we kill them for our own reasons sure.

There would be roll and if that does not pan out you would have to order is special from a smith, those are just elven weapons, they are traditional elven weapons one rarely sees outside Kyonin

Mostly to ease our own job and to keep him still while we work our magic on him. If he takes his chances mid-interrogation, we get the downsides of proving the priest right, and not a lot to show for it.

Besides, even while bound, a lycan is dangerous. The priest is outraged, yes, but he is also afraid.

I won't press this part for different reasons, but I'd like to point out the possibility.

Just noticed this. The wererat has a +6 will save BTW, it is the mercenary leader who has a +1
Ah, my mistake.

Plan updated, now with Bluffing and Mina using Evil Eye to debuff the Wererat.

-[X] While Sirim telepathically interrogates the Wererat, Bluffing where possible to make it more cooperative, Kori uses his headband to cast Detect Thoughts to read it's surface thoughts, attempting to learn it's plans and where it would have taken the ring had it succeeded. Mina uses her Evil Eye Hex to debuff the Wererat, while extending the effect with Cackle, if necessary.

Kori tries to Bluff the Wererat into talking
Best done through SIrim and telepathy. If we so much as imply aloud we may leave him alive, the priest will explode right there.

Ideally, Kori interrogates the Ratman while using Sirim to relay thoughts that can't be talked about in the presence of others.

Though I don't think we have to micromanage the votes to that extent?

Good call. Plan updated for Sirim to interrogate the Wererat, and Bluff it, telepathically.

BTW though how are you guys liking this little arc?
I even have a pity to that lich. So much struggle, so little success...

[X] Goldfish

@Goldfish if we do have to kill him, could also question corpse with scroll. Granted, I'm sure we want to save that if possible and learn from it later if we can.

Well he might have had a bit more if he could have ambushed you in the wilds again, but then the super storm happened and there were no marsh giants or Boggards nearby for him to make use of so he was out of luck. Most raiders would not go out in that no matter what it might have promised them.

@DragonParadox just to be clear, no one has died during whole encounter yet? No one on our side or theirs?

It sounds like four man merc party just got picked up by wererat to steal ring?

Just find the no death thing surprising.

From what we've seen, it seems likely the wererat got picked up by the lich independently from the party. Hence Kori wondering why one of them gets to walk it off, and the other is executed on the spot.
Surrendering has something to do with that, though I don't expect the mercs to get off freely. They'll probably have to pay restitution to the temple, at the very least.

[X] The priest's right, we should kill him and be done with him (Higher Standing with the Cult of Pharasma; Better Reputation in Augustana)

I'm gonna a go ahead and vote against letting him live here, the benefits of interrogating are just way too vague set against what we know we'll lose trying it, not only is the rep hit for ourselves likely to be pretty significant, we have the Iruxi with us too and this choice could easily reflect on them when they're supposed to be making a good impression

Not to mention, even if the chance is small it's possible the wererat could escape, and we absolutely cannot let the ring get away.

And unless I'm misremembering we don't know what the ring does, so that's something that could also be something that helps him escape.

It's hard to entertain the idea of surrender when the general attitude is to kill you on sight.

As for the mercs... the major difference between extending the truce and making them surrender would be the upper hand in negotiating payment for the damages.

Their captain is a likable baffoon. If they are based in the city proper, I think a favorable rate should we require their services would satisfy me. I considered calling on mercs for this job, but we didn't know anyone. The lich beat us to it, and it was a solid choice on its part. We could do the same next time... minus the mind whammy. I bet it didn't pay them a copper piece. :p

Not interested in whatever information he might have. A destroyed phylactery is all that we need

@Massgamer, just giving you a heads up since you name voted for me. Because there is more interest in killing him than I was expecting, I'm switching back to my original vote.
