EDIT: Fingers crossed that we find a portrait made of someone who was aware of the limitations of wizard portraiture and had a rather existentialist bent, resulting in the portrait trying to draw Zagreus into debate on the nature of consciousness.

Wouldn't the friar (priest ghost) know classical? That should be something he knows and potentially even taught at one point due to being a priest.

The empire still uses the scattershot approach to punctuation and spelling , so he's getting blindsided
 
All in all a good turn. The portraits seems like a fun option but I feel like Simon will be the most interesting one so I'll be going for that.

For the social I'm going with Tabletop Club and Sally-Anne. The former because I think it'd be good for Zagreus and the latter to catch up what happened over Christmas.

Having a professional teacher does make a difference, especially at the start. Later on it's more of a question of practice, but first spteps are better made assisted by someone who doesn't just know the language, but also how to teach it.

A portait can give a lecture but it will surely be more limited when it comes to the interaction required for teaching. I think Zagreus the priest will be fascinated by Simon's ecclesiastical slant and having something to talk about will make the learning easier.

That we don't see other students pursuing extracurricular learning from portraits says good things about the success rate of the petitions.

The Empire is in an era where there is no official way to spell things.

I really do want to see more Simon interaction, but people have brought up good points about getting someone who knows how to teach to at least begin our learning of a new language. Since Simon has no experience teaching from scratch and a portrait wouldn't necessarily be consistent or as capable of teaching

I think the portrait would be perfectly fine, but I think Simon will be too. Simon wins out for me because it would be the more social solution.
