Project Prometheus (Warhammer Fantasy OC Civ Quest)

Honestly, the culture of our civ is up in the air, unless @Voikirium has something specific in mind. We might live in the equivalent of Southeast Asia, but it's not like warhammer has cared much about consistently putting cultures where they 'historically' were, or presenting them as perfect replicas. First thing that comes to mind is the names we have for our leaders.

[X] Ehfeyos, a wanderer who journeyed deeper into the aethyr than any other would or could and then when that was not sufficient she incarnated herself into the material world the better to learn from mortals. She understands magic as a scholar, and is a thing of Qhaysh at heart.

[X]Minathpa, the clever thing, the den digger, a spirit of the clever and the cunning beasts. The beast that thinks, that plans. She is marked by Chamon.

[X]Laqurnas, the predator, a spirit bound and shaped and moved by clever and cunning things, one who strikes from the dark and from the shadow and from the mist. He is marked by Ulgu.

[X] Hoygor, an odd spirit. One unintentionally summoned by the Astromancers of Cathay, one who was influenced by them and learned Azyr from them and integrated it into his nature.

It's not canon by a longshot, but a mod for TWW3 named the peninsula east of Cathay as "Ihan", so that's what I'm mentally calling it.

[X] Qasarat, a spirit of that which is hot and bright and furious and lusty and loving and joyful and a thousand other things within nature, from animal to beast and back again. Many times he has been called upon to consecrate a wedding for mortals, particularly by the Kislevites. He is marked by Aqshy.

Forgive me, but where are they from? I don't have the faintest clue. Or are you saying that the names don't match any IRL culture.

I don't know where they're from, but I am fairly sure they aren't south east asian, lmao. They seem woodsy, If I had to describe them in one word? they're somewhat tribalistic, and they look like the kinds of names you'd see on say, beastmen or forest spirits. Hoygor just sounds beastman, tbh.

According to Google Ehfeyos is made up, Dererhan may or may not be Arab or Turkish and may or may not be a name, Liad is Jewish, Qasarat is Urdu, Talmor is Swiss, Minathpa is made up, Menleth appears to be a elf name from Tolkien's works, Laqurnas is made up and Hoygor appears to be a phonetic spelling of Hojgaard which is a Danish name.

[X] Dererhan, a beast, a true warrior, who has been summoned many times as a soldier by mortals, often heeding the calls of wizards and mages who were to face Chaos. A wrestler and champion as much as a spirit, he has the rage of a beast, and has the trophies to prove it. He is a spirit of purest Ghur.

Hey @Voikirium , roughly how strong are our leaders going to be at the start? Are they going to be on the level of say, greater daemons?

The Gurgran are supposed to be a race of mortals not demigods, so I'm going to assume no.

I mean, there are mortals who can take a greater daemon. Especially if you include mortal Wizards, and all our leaders are magically potent...our normal citizens are certainly not that powerful, but our rulers being able to take a greater daemon is not implausible.

After all, Malekith is a mortal, Teclis is a mortal, and so on. Are our leaders quite that powerful? Maybe not, but it's not an indication that a group are demigods to have a few very powerful members.

Yeah, besides, Greater daemons and Exalted daemons are whole different beasts. I'm just using 'greater daemon' as a benchmark.

The foxes will be popping up near Cathay, so this gives us an in with them. Also, 'odd' characters are always interesting, considering this one is considered odd by literal spirits of the warp, this promises to give us esoteric options. Or as esoteric as you get when you are talking about warp-borne entities with a (presumably) significantly high ground from a materium's mortal perspective.

Furthermore it synergizes with our Ulgu specialist, not only shall the foxes be cunning, but also unpredictably so.

Fire is a common feature of virtually every civilization on the planet, I am hopeful this will grant as a bonus to understanding the mortals' perspective then, through making that fire which they share something the foxes intimately know.

As such, I reckon this one will give us a good window into the feelings of mortals, their outlook, the way they see the world, etc. Which I believe to be vital for a race of incarnated spirits, they shall be otherworldly yes, but that does not mean there shouldn't be the warmth of the living in their gaze, or that they should struggle to comprehend the ways of 'warmbloods' as the First Children of the Old Ones do.

This option makes sure we have/accomplish that, and, looking at the bit about 'a thousand other things within nature', so much more.

It's not only 'I cast fireball', is what I'm getting at, though yes, there will be some of that too, and no, it won't set the jungle on fire, as others have said. Jungles are too humid for that, and in fact, seeing as the foxes don't wear clothes, it might be the way to keep them warm in the cold, wet nights.

[X] Liad, a singer often summoned by the Maiden to provide art and glory for her servants, and has been sent to do so in return for companionship. He is marked by Hysh.

Is this Maiden the Everqueen? Aside from that boon, Hysh will be very useful against all the Deamons in pursuit, and in a less martial tone, I really want to see an artist that wields Hysh. It can also have positive effects in the way mortals view us, because surely an entity that wields the White Wind cannot be tainted by dharr? *Looks at vampires nervously*

Even then, cleaning up corruption and ruining the Horned Vermin's day by making warpstone disintegrate can only be a good thing. And I want artistic foxes, dangit! :V

Maybe this will be a path to developing clothes and such too? At first for fashion, then for function.

I would pick Derehan, our Ghur specialist too, both for the synergy and the experience, however, doing so would lock Hoygor our Azyr specialist further out of the race. So I'm not picking them because we're already foxes, and I assume we'll have reasonably deep Ghur knowledge by default, and picking Derehan would mean specialization on that front, while I, personally, prefer the possible synergies between Ulgu and Azyr, plus the connections with Cathay.

Still, shape-shifting is, frankly, quite based imo. So I'm not totally against that winning either.

Considering we're incarnated permanently in reality (and are now varying levels of mortal), I can see us being kind of like the elves. In that everybody has magic, but not equal levels of talent/interest in developing the ability.

I suspect that was true even in the Aethyr. Well, inasmuch as individual identities existed there. Not all daemons are equal and thus not all other spiritual creatures would be either.

Ghyran and Ghur have good synergy, and Ulgu means we get access to illusions and trickery which I think will be vital. After that I just went for chamon because combining artifce with the other options I think would work well. Resulting in some wild magical items and a lot of very dangerous traps.

Gonna call the vote when I get off of work today, so roughly six or so hours.

[X] Talmor, the scavenger, the wild thing, the omen. A spirit born of that which feeds on the dead and on the dying, who has incarnated many times to feed on the energy of dead mortals, kept at arm's length but used to expel the restless dead. She is marked by Shyish.
