well I certainly wasn't expecting to read ~350k in a week when I picked up In the Name of Love and Hatred, but here I am.

[X] Finish the job, no matter how long it takes

Our goal is to become a Color if we give up on a job just cause of a single failure we can't really call ourselves one of the "Built Different" folk now can we?

Not surprising. It didn't feel to me like she was in mortal peril, but the attachment caused Cecil to have a heightened level of concern in that situation. I expect this to continue to be a point of tension in the future.

[X] Finish the job, no matter how long it takes

We may have messed up the mission, but we followed our hearts
Little too early to manifest EGO/distort just yet :V

A note on expectations regarding votes to do the right thing (after Grade 6 Chapter 5)
I expect this to continue to be a point of tension in the future.
This reminds me that I wanted to talk about the subject for a bit.

Something I begin to realise is that the Quest format puts me in a precarious situation. Though choices are supposed to be as meaningful as possible, I need to balance them with the nature of the City and its people. This vote is a good example because it is far easier for you (the players) to just make Ciel push past the hardships that come with keeping on with the Prophet of Yesteryear job. But Ciel on their own would be far more likely to just give up on it.

Basically, I need to watch out which choices I give you and when Ciel just does something without allowing input from the outside. Occurences like this one do work if they are spread out, but Ciel can easily slide from "protagonist privilege" into "power fantasy" if I am not careful.

On the other hand, having the players pick the moral or caring choices also works well along the lines of the main struggle in PMoon games: to escape the darker shades of humanity and embrace the brighter ones. But as with the games, I feel the need to warn you: picking the 'good' option may give you the fuzzy feels or a sense of doing right, but the setting all but requires I make Ciel's life harder. Such as here where caring for Parvati led to a fight and failing to finish the mission.

Being a good or even just decent person in the City will be a struggle. I felt I should point that out so nobody goes Surprised Pikachu on me when Ciel keeps getting themselves in some sort of trouble for doing the 'right' thing.

And that's without taking into account that this is pre-SoLight. So expect more situations where everyone is weirded out that Ciel is being a decent human being.
Hang on a minute.
Ciel is capable of following a dream and being a decent person, prior to the Seed of Light.
The Light IS the ability to have dreams and morals, as well as being the source of EGO and Distortion.
We know that it's possible to manifest EGO without a proper Seed integration (see Kali's entire career), the Seed just makes it easier by awakening people's suppressed desires and emotions.
…could Ciel manifest EGO before LobCorp is even a thing?

And that's without taking into account that this is pre-SoLight.
Yeah that can be pretty brutal. We'll need to play our cards carefully so poor Ciel doesn't end up a Rolando before Rolando.

…could Ciel manifest EGO before LobCorp is even a thing?
It's an interesting thought but I doubt it without some suitably dramatic plot twists. We do have the protagonist privilege of a dream and compassion, but Kali was explicitly working with the people fostering the Seed of Light. And as far as I know, all EGO manifestations are accompanied by the challenge of an outer voice, such as what Mimicry did for Kali or Carmen for the others.

…could Ciel manifest EGO before LobCorp is even a thing?
No.

Because Lob-Corp is currently operating just as normal. So Ciel can't get E.G.O before Lob-Corp.

What you seem to need in order to manifest E.G.O is either an Enkephalin overdose (completely uncontrollable and might get you taken over by an Abnormality) based on the local E.G.O abusers last mission in W District, or use an already existing E.G.O that is somewhat compatible with you (i.e like that one Queen of Hatred lookalike, or like how Mimicry was for Kali).

Although saying that, in Ciel's current state, I wouldn't trust their mental stability to be able to handle an E.G.O like that.

The threat that comes with using super compatible E.G.O, is that while it makes it easier to use, it also makes it easier for the E.G.O to become you.

… fuck now I'm imagining Ciel becoming the Well 2 electric boogaloo since the last person who had that was the only one who could create that.
Tbh. Carmen is someone 'special' even before the Seed of Light, as a natural born 'Well' of Light, that can mass-produce Cognito.

Ciel is closer to a Post-SoL person rather than an extreme like Carmen as a well of Light.

The Light IS the ability to have dreams and morals, as well as being the source of EGO and Distortion.
No?Its not ability to have that .Cityfolk dont have hope and ambitions because they forced to kill it by deceiving themselves that its caused by circumstances outside of their control. What seed of light does is that it encourages people to not give it up and gives strenght to rise up to the challenge. Again seed of light is a seed it cant sprout without nutrients and proper soil.

Being a good or even just decent person in the City will be a struggle. I felt I should point that out so nobody goes Surprised Pikachu on me when Ciel keeps getting themselves in some sort of trouble for doing the 'right' thing.
After thinking about it some more, I decided to threadmark this post for future reference. I imagine the matter may come up in the future and I also want potential future players to see it with as little effort as possible

Not interested in Hana still, but marking a failure here will just get disapprovals from both Giano and Parvati. Let's just get it done I guess.
I agree with not wanting hana, but still wanting to finish the mission.
[X] Finish the job, no matter how long it takes
but to be fair to parvati, if she wants to get a desk job she wont be put in these situations, and to be fair to ciel, we were kind of banking on this situation not happening.

I'm surprised that you say Ciel would just give up, because from what I've been reading of the quest, they seem like the sort - at least now, after the character development of becoming a Fixer, of taking concrete steps towards their dream, of openly admitting their dream to multiple people and refusing to give up on it even as they acknowledge that it's crazy... Ciel seems more the sort who would

While you are not wrong, Ciel is well aware of the drain on time and resources a long-term job can be; especially an Urban Plague they want to solve with as little support as possible. This is a big thing and Ciel is still on the sane part of determined.

Also, a point of order: I said Ciel would be far more likely to give up if the narrative had full control instead of ceding some to the players. This is different from saying they would 'just' give up.

This is your regularly scheduled reminder that you are predictable.

In unrelated news, I actually had to think for a bit whether the event I had planned for this Grade still works with the significant delay caused by running after the prophet. The answer was thankfully yes; I believe have enough leeway there, though I will double-check just to make sure.

So you still think we're predictable, eh? All goes according to plan. Just as Angela and Roland will one day do, we'll play our role perfectly to the very end before suddenly swooping in to…
To do what? Actually go and vote to taunt an Arbiter so the Quest bad ends by cause of being too dumb to live? :V
