Essence of the Age (Exalted Quest)

[X] You intend to conduct an assessment of the Watch: The Greycloaks had been mauled in the surprise attack, which is good, as it meant they did their job of serving as a tripwire against covert assaults, but it did mean they needed to be rebuilt. Your skills grant you great insight into the hearts and minds of others, allowing you to identify the gems who might have initially been picked up–and more importantly, identify and disarm infiltrators.

Magical Girl Quest! I definitely join.

I wonder how Bryn felt when, on the brink of an existential threat, she activated what must be a terrible last-chance weapon to discover that she is a compassionate and courageous girl who is probably too good for this world. Even if the reasons why her ancestors feared the Arbiter's activation are understandable, she certainly can't help but think that if they or she herself had been braver, things would have turned out very differently.

The contrast between the image of the terrifying justice machine and the real thoughts of the Arbiter is incredibly funny and I need more of that.

Your Essence surged as your chassis sealed up, ancient mechanisms igniting as your body altered its relation to the pull of Earth, filing for an exemption with the spirits of the realm for yourself and your armaments–and so it was that your balance shifted, the stilts that made up the lower six inches of your armor no longer something that requires constant attention to avoid wobbling.
Hang on a sec. Arbiter needs to use her Charm just to walk properly in her own armor? Rather than simply being created taller, she intentionally was meant to constantly walk around on combat stilts? That's some kinky rule-of-cool absurdity.

@Alectai May I ask for the source of our character's portrait, please?

It gets funnier when you realize that it basically also gave her the ability to walk on the walls and ceiling. This is a really cool ability that came about solely because the Arbiter wanted to look cool and was embarrassed by her short stature.

Above all else, we've gotta make sure the base is well-protected. After all, no matter how powerful we are, we're still only one person... unless Exalted has some crazy shenanigans counteracting that — well, more than it already does.

Honestly, it was just Autochthon having a Really Good Idea, and Arbiter being mortified by dealing with the consequences. He can't predict what kind of person an Alchemical will be until they're activated. That's the glory of Creation!

On the topic of source... No idea! I found it in a Danbooru delve some time ago, and thought it was so awesome I saved it on the spot.

I mean, ultimately, Arbiter's internal dialogue was always going to be colored by the choice of Virtues. You chose one of the Cuter Combinations, and therefore her internal dialogue has become Cute Girls Doing Cute Things while trying to pretend to be Serious.

I think that at high enough Essence an alchemical can have both a mech body and a Humanscale body, but that's for when we are old enough to turn into a city, which is, like, centuries from now, I'm pretty sure.
Actually, does the time we spent sealed away count towards our age? If so, then we """just""" have to preform a half dozen insane feats and face thousands of challenges, and we could manage to become a city in only, like, a decade! :V
(Note: I don't actually know whether or not alchemicals have a required age for high Essence, I just thought this was funny.)

High Essence stuff is generally out of the scope of player characters, and it'll be a long time yet before Alchemicals are formally released in Third as opposed to the bits in Essence.

So regardless, Arbiter is not going to turn into a set of brutalist architecture anytime soon.

If Alchemicals can turn into cities, can they turn into buildings?

And if so, can they franchise?

What I'm trying to say here is that we should totally bring the light of convenient and fast food to these homefed heathens.

Arby's. We Have the Meats. :V

Sadly, an Alchemical City can only increase its sprawl, it cannot franchise.

Such is life.

Okay, but are you willing to answer whether the requirement is "just" this quest continuing for the real life decade it would take to get enough XP, or we would also have to wait an in-game century?

3e has generally moved away from Age = Paradigm shifting power. Elders usually get one or two cool tricks that expand what their charms do (and lots of charms) but don't get previous edition's Essence 6+ craziness. How that works with Alchemicals will have to be seen I suppose.

I mean, even though turning into a city was no more intended for player use than the other high-essence things, it is a very important part of Autochthonian society and culture, so I hope they don't get rid of it.

That and turning into a bigass mecha are the previous steps towards the path of cityhood iirc.

If you mean making more buildings/cities they control that are separate from their main "body", no. Although at that scale their Charms are entire buildings so they can probably pull an RTS expanding robot city theme with the right developed Charms.
