"So, we'll be taking out vamp nests for the rest of the summer? Hitting them while the sun's out and trying to cut them down before we get back to the usual nonsense sounds good," you said cheerily.
"It's dangerous for civilians," Sofia protested.
"You came here to learn, right? We work as a group here," you countered.
"Besides, we have experience! All of us have killed vamps before," Willow added eagerly.
"And I don't think you can call us civilians," you added.
"You don't have any powers," Sofia countered.
"I have some magic," Willow protested. The fact she wasn't nearly as well practiced in magic as Amy or Ms Calendar was conveniently not brought up.
"Giles helped train me. He's a watcher, so that means I have to be decent, right?" you added.
"Fine. We'll give it a try," Sofia said reluctantly.
"Let's try to do this in an organized manner, shall we?" Giles asked.
The last part of summer turned into a routine of helping Giles track down vamp nests and helping Sofia to take them out. You still had your job, and spending time with Cordelia and the others to keep in mind, but it felt good to be doing a solid clearing out. Sofia remained professional and a little distant the entire time. She didn't seem to get working with you and the others, no matter the fact you'd spent weeks doing it. Perhaps part of that was because she only saw you for cleaning out the vamp nests. How she managed to stay sane without doing anything fun was beyond you. Worse were the small glimpses you caught sometimes of Sofia looking lost. She almost always looked confident, it was strange to see her off balance.
