[X]Avoid the station and keep following the tracks. You suspect the black stuff could make you sick

Train Talks
You approached the group huddling at the station. "Excuse me."

One promptly startled, bursting out with fluff and puffing up to at least twice its previous size. "Who? Who?"

"I'm Beatrice. I wanted to ask about the train. Is it still running?"

"Yes, it's still running," someone who looked like possibly three raccoons in a trench coat answered. "It's more broken and run down than before, but it still runs as long as Wonderland continues to."

"Why is it so broken?"

"Cause of the Corruption," a small person piped up. He sniffed brushing back his whiskers. "It infects everything it can."

"So why do you still use it then? Isn't that dangerous?"

"Not much choice, is there?" someone without a face answered. "We still have to work and come home. Business stops for nobody!"

"And Nobody hasn't been by in a long time," the possible three raccoons in a trench coat answered sadly.

Train to Everywhere
"Where does the train go?"

The creatures at the train station blinked. "Everywhere?" the extremely puffed up one answered. "Where else?"

"Trains have to follow tracks though," you pointed out.

"Says who?" the smallest one argued.

"That's just how train works. They travel because they're on tracks. If they leave them they can't move well, and get stuck or fall over."

"Then you should follow the tracks," the possible three raccoons in a trench coat huffed.

"I just wanted to know where the train goes."

"And we told you. It goes everywhere."

"Well then, what's the stop after this one?" you tried.

"Chess Crossing," the creature replied.

"What's Chess Crossing?"

"It is itself," a gentleman replied. "That is all."

"Right, but I don't know what it is."

"We just told you. It is what it is!" one snapped grumpily. Geeze, were all these creatures allergic to straightforward explanations?

Chess Crossing
You decided that just waiting for the train yourself would be the best idea. The beings waiting for the train continued to complain for a few minutes before settling down to wait as silently and miserably as they had been before your arrival. The picturesque almost toy like train that did eventually pull up was a far cry from the atmosphere the station rested in. It looked friendly and welcoming and clean, untouched by the problems infecting the station.

You boarded on and looked around for a spot where you could squeeze in. You sat next to a goat who let out an unhappy baa at your presence before resuming chewing some cud. It feels awkward sitting among all these strange folk. You don't think you see a single normal person here at all. When you did think you saw a person they turned out to be made of wood! You looked out the window as the train rolled by.

You're used to the idea of a checkerboard countryside. It's how farmer fields look when they're laid out with the different pastures. But that imagery is never as perfectly even as what you can see outside your window right now. It actually looks like someone grew the countryside to match a giant chessboard. You can't see across all of it, but you can see what looks like knights competing with each other in an odd hopping manner clashing back and forth.

The train stops and you peer out into a brightly white and blue checkered hall. People sign in as they exit and shift how they walk. Some cross only forwards and sideways. Others move diagonally. It all feels very odd.
