Marta Yarrow would balk at confronting that large - and dangerous - of a group. Not necessarily a flat no - giving them an "accidental" tip is... possible; if you'd asked her to fight them solo, she would just refuse - but definitely reluctance.

Materson would sigh and pack a few extra weapons (particularly Linestone and such) into his gear before heading out. Under his breath, he'd add something about, "Those idiot kids..."
(By "kids," he means anyone under fifty.)
(He's perfectly willing to try, in case anyone asks that directly. He also gives himself better than 50/50 odds of beating them in a straight fight if it comes to it. Much better if the Forest helps. "Maxim 4: Close air support covereth a multitude of sins.")

That can work. Strikes the right balance between putting in at least some effort, but not actively aiding them.

Plus, it sets a precedent that if they get back on track, we can the put up a sign informing them that they are totally observed, and that further approach will net them the special 'spooky and very dangerous forest tour'.

I'd also support action to have it be a real, physical warning sign, strapped to the side of an armored deer.

More seriously, We Need More Intel. Stealthy in particular: the unnamed organization's logo screams Vampire. We need to pick her brains more thoroughly.

I'd like to suggest we fake a Wild Monster Ambush with illusions and animals, see about scattering the Lumburglars and then herding them individually to their respective fates, but my brain is mush right now and not up to formulating a specific plan.

I'd also support action to have it be a real, physical warning sign, strapped to the side of an armored deer.
Imma veto that, on the grounds that it's too blatantly The Forest Is Alive. At least an illusionary sign maintains the Creepy Wizard cover story.

You've carefully scanned her for references, and she has a specific location to check for a note or contact. Expected passphrase "Balcony Direct" - which she thinks is probably just a standard nonsense phrase.

The contact she's talked with has always worn a concealing hooded cloak (with the logo attached), and has one of those voices that could be male or female. She hasn't followed them, though she was sorely tempted after the second meeting. She has been shown a bag of coins, so she's pretty sure they have the means to pay.

If they ignore that, it's on their head.

I unironically love this idea.

[X][Save the Lumburglars] Full support behind anything that gets us access to the rare disease, they will make an interesting case study and healing them will give us goodwill to spend.

I'm of the opinion that we should use the distraction of their arrival to sabotage the structural integrity of the shadowspinner colony in conjunction with the moles, hopefully killing some of the spiders or at least splitting them up for a follow up extermination.

Look we warm them, if they still doing something stupid, then it's their fault.

Maybe put up another blatant illusionary sign telling how to get out of the forest?

and approach closer to the forrest, lead them through ForestVietnam. Have wildlife "usher" them in and lead them into a dedicated tour of our defenses, with interested mind trees having prime seats for study. Meanwhile the Sordtree uses this opportunity to make use of its giant buster sword to smack "the Lumburglars" our guests with hospitality.

There, @Nigerian Duck , @BeepSmile ! Feeding time for research!

So I guess this works.

You still need to source the energy.
You do get double damage, though. So that's twice the effect per cost.

If it weren't for that multiplier, I'd give you a conversion-ratio improvement outright. As it stands... Hmm...

I think you could work towards a couple of different ways to stop needing the Sun to fire the Lasers. And I think about half of them will rely upon Light/Darkness Negacion. But - since conservation of energy is (mostly) a thing, and Light/Darkness Negacion doesn't truly generate energy ex-nihilo - I think you do need to get that properly working.

So what I'm hearing is that we can't in fact gather "Darkness" like we do Light to concentrate into L/D Negation Lasers?

Thoughts on tapping into the other spectrums of Light/Radiation to act as power sources? We're all constantly bombarded with all sorts of radiation, it's just that the Earth filters it a tiny bit when it's between us and the Sun, unless physics works very differently here.

but also an automatic stream of Favors from Newton Village for enhancing their crops so much.

The Economist/Resource Hoarder in me says Yes, and the "Helping Other People Is Good" in me also says Yes, so let's get to it.

Fun fact, that you probably know IC: Over half of people in the TreeQuest world are immune to scurvy.
(You probably don't have enough info to even guess why IC, though.)

My first assumption is "Elves are different enough genetically that being partially elf blooded grants you the inability to gain scury due to having different biochemistry."

Like, Sunlight apparently encourages Vitamin D production in the human body, or something like that, so maybe Elf Genetics has sunlight encourage the production of Vitamin C, making scurvy a very unlikely thing?

Huh! Sounds interesting.
*Quickly skims the TvTropes entry*

I highly recommend it myself, and the final book in the series is coming out SoonTM.

Will Wight's other two series, The House of Blades and Of Sea/Shadow and Shadow/Sea are also pretty good, though Cradle is his third series and his writing becomes progressively more refined, so HoB is a little clunkier in some points imo.

They all also exist within the same...multiverse? Multiverse is the closest description I feel like. They all have elements that, eventually, lead to the same place.

-

Well, this is intriguing. Outside of the worst one, they all seem entirely possible to get along with, with the biggest issue being providing proof of sufficient cash flow to properly hire them all.

The Stealthy-gal has a limited ability to hide her thoughts from you, but it mostly broke down as they all got close.

So she's Really Mercenary. It sounds like if we could properly make a counter offer and sign a binding contract, she could be a useful asset, and turning an enemy (Woo Clan) asset into a gain for ourselves would be very nice...

But unless we can sell her that this would be a better place to retire than what she had in mind, I don't think we would be able to properly avoid her eventually backstabbing us for more money.

One of those really does need the money, due to a child with a rare hard-to-heal disease.

Oh hey, we talked about this before! Like, it was in context of "100%/approaching 100% Elf genetics", but this is something we're broadly interested in helping out with!

Any details on the disease? Cure conditions? Treatment?

One of those needs the money due to personal wastefulness, but might have learned his lesson.

Honestly, we can work with that.

One of those is bored (and despairing of purpose in life) to the point of taking a (low!) crime job just to pass the time. (Theft only.)

And this! A Magical Forest dealing with Nasty Invaders is all sorts of adventure and excitement!

One of the others is a rather terrible person, and has a family that might prefer he didn't come back.

....I'm asking for details. Is he a father? A son? A brother? What harm is he inflicting to who, and will his removal cause issues to others being able to make ends meet?

Can we identify those in need and send...for lack of a better term, a rescue mission?

None of the others have (discernible) ties to conspiracies or other such things.

So for the rest of them, they're in a position where theft, harm, and crime are their usual methods of making an income, but they aren't notably Bad beyond that or have the capacity for kindness to others in their life that marks them as, well, people? If relatively average ones?

How many are there total again?
