TreeQuest: Magitech (Riot Quest)

Future? It's been on the table since we can move in my book. If only more people helped researching :V
Godzilla Earth is massive(around 300 meters high). That would take a literal mountain of Resources. We also don't have the beam but it could be substituted for a laser but it wouldn't be the same. I would think Plasma magic, an upgraded shield , an electromagnetic particle beam, and a couple more magnitudes would be good to even think about it. Void forest would probably help too( for stealth movement).

I don't think that there is a need to 100% copy Godzilla, a super laser with maybe Light/Fire Combination to make it more fiery would be enough.

Situations post has recieved some updates. Once again, anybody with unlisted questions is free to submit them to my fickle attention to possibly be added.

Hmm, I wonder if I can get bonus on Movement research if I define more about the research like mimicking the movements and shape of animals/people or such things? Still hyper-focused on it for now though.
Giving interesting suggestions for multiple turns, grants occasional bonus dice.
That's a general principle - though I wouldn't be surprised if I'd missed it a few times.

AWESOME post! Awesome stuff. Fun read. Will comment on the actual events and stuff in a bit since it was pretty epic and also a lot and its late for me. hehe
:D

Secondly, so I was looking at my actions as more magic and less pure research, so I was wondering if something Wizard Tree or Magic Tree would be allowed.
(Checks votes.)
Sure!

As an additional question so if in the future I choose to do something like Magical Construct Analysis or Life Indeed or Monster Energy would they count as 'magic'.
Yes.
Yes. But please PLEASE point that out to me while voting so that I'll remember to give you the bonus.

Page 134, part 1:
Does Monster Energy count as Magical Biology, given how intrinsically tied into a Monster's body it is?
Hmm...
That's right on the edge, but with the number of Monsters you've got - particularly the Lesser Fire Salamander with its Fire and Heat Resistance - yes it should.

Huh, am I an ancient tree now? Neat. Can I upgrade my Movement again? :V
Yes and yes.
Do you want "Ent, 2 at everything but +9 at Movement and Movement Research"?

@Robinton for my ancient upgrade I would like Category Expert(Growth) 3 times
Done!
I'll call it an Ancient Growth Tree by default.

Speaking of evil, is it okay to spy on her to find out what her plan is?
I'll treat any such write-in as "try not to get caught, and try not to be particularly intrusive such that getting caught wouldn't make an enemy."
Unless the players collectively decide otherwise.
Not that actions can't have unintended consequences, but - from everything you've seen, even if she is an infiltrator, she doesn't have much thought right now but analyzing the Forest's Growth.
...She may have to be physically torn away in a turn or two, when the Yuadore's baby is expected to be born.
Not that she'll be the only one helping. But having two Healers is generally preferred to one, and having a pair of female hands with some real Magic would definitely be appreciated by Mrs. Yuadore.

Welcome to the quest!

Did my choice to become an eldest tree last turn not go through or is this just a visit by the copy paste error fairy?

Given how fairies work in this setting…

This would imply that someone, somewhere used phenomenal cosmic power to wish for more typos. And became the sworn enemy of writers and publishers across the continent, possibly the world.

Page 134, part 2:
I'm doing "[ ][Action] Life Indeed" atm, but open question to the playerbase; would anyone be ok with/object to me instead sending a laser to the station above convering the following points:

1. Does us communicting with you/you with us cost you or put you at risk?
2.a. Unsure about "too good to true", does herbalist intend harm or is unknowingly some sort of 'plant'? Please elaborate.
2.b. It's not that rock, is it?
3. Thank you. For everything you have been doing When we are more, we will try to help.

Am requesting input/critque and to find out if fellow trees are broadly in favor or opposed to sending any sort of message.
The Forest itself can guess at #1 with a fair degree of confidence - "technically, yes, but not any meaningful amount in practice" - though you could be wrong and it's likely still worth asking.

Odds of the Forest being targeted as "someone communicating with The Last Star" are much higher.

I can't think of any other reason that the Forest could reasonably know/expect IC that it would be a bad idea to contact them regularly. I can't think of much OOC either.

One requests, could the Spoilered actions be Brokern Up by main category? (I.e. the bolded headlines)
On the one hand, that's still a long list.
On the other, yeah I could do that.
...
I think I'll add a vote for it to the next update. :)

After the message was sent to the forest from the Last Star, a wave of malice was sent towards the station and 'swatted away'. I was vagely worried that they might get a bit tired from a series of attacks or something.
I'm now interested in subtle communication methods; I presume (since we used light-based mores code) that the actual light was not observed, but the information/communication was divined by whoever was behind that malice attack towards the station?

Anyway, 'non-divinable communication methods' is one of the things I hope we can poke at from the market.

Arthurs Lifemagic Lessons are the action 'Life Indeed' now.
FWIW I'll just treat any "Squirrel Teach Life Magic" vote as part of "Life Indeed".

Robiton I should be at 21 now, allowing me to spend my third ancient tree point in the same Narrow Focus as the first two, adding another 4 dice to Magic and Research Magic.
1 rank of Generalist converted to (Magic) + (Magic Research)!

Oir wolf friends were affected by a poison that slowed them down, and some died.

Hypothesis: If we had taken Fire Within boosting actions they would have survived, and it would habe boosted all of our other friend's combat rolls.

Could we make a special tree that passivly gives one dice or autosuccess to a The Fire Within action everh turn?
First of all, as far as you've been able to tell, the poison isn't fatal.
Possible permanent mental effects for anyone/anything that isn't getting healing shortly thereafter.
But not fatal.

Second of all, you were dealing with range issues.
The only Trees that have reached out that far before are Trees working on Communications, and even for them it's a bit like fine-tuning a telescope.
It's getting easier with time and experience (and Sensing Trees), but...

That said, Fire Within would tend to help keep your Creatures alive and well, absolutely yes. And feel free to try designing a constant Fire Within Special Tree as a Write-In! Outside Combat, it should either assist your Creatures to get more done (and have higher quality of life), or just assist the Forest itself.

found this awesome story some days ago and rush to read all the chapters...
Welcome and thank you!

With Ice/Fire Negacion we might even be able to have a log that heats when it is cold and cools when it is hot.
Come to think of it, I'm almost certain you could come up with a thermal super-insulator off of that combination (and some experimentation).
(Notice: not actually metamaterial grade. You're probably getting - after Magic and experimentation - a version of closed-cell spray-insulation, that physically isn't as good as IRL modern variants but closes the gaps with Magic.)

Innovator * 3! I shall be the Most Unpredictable Tree! My strength shall be as two trees, for my heartwood is pure.
Done.

[X] [Action] Travel as far Southwest as I can, avoiding settlements and intelligent beings, until I either feel my connection to the rest of the Forest weakening, or reach the Friendly Ant territory.
If I'm reading the Continent Map right, that's a bit over 500 miles.
...
Hmm, how far can a Tree travel in a day, hmm? Assuming you learned quickly and rapidly optimized your body for efficient long-distance travel... Probably an average of around 5-10 mph. But you could go maybe 16h/day until you ran out of fuel stores (since you'll be burning energy far more quickly than gathering it, especially away from the Lens Trees...).
So I'm seeing a best-case scenario of around 4 days travel. Realistically, 7-8 days, plus the time initially figuring out how to travel distance efficiently.
...
Unless you crit'ed and decided to (essentially) turn yourself into a cart. And could find all the best roads.
Then who knows. 2-3 days?

Due to lack of experience in the subject, and the fact that doing so would probably be immoral, the Defender Ent is not intended to have a full Mind, behaving instead like many of the less-awake trees of the Forest.
...Have you guys actually properly lost a Tree ever? I don't think so, though I think you've had a few get damaged and need massive repairs (or even regrown from Roots).

In this Forest, Tree chops you! ;D

Aright, I have finally grown tired of study! Time to actually do something interesting. Partly because I even felt like writing up a pseudo-Omake about this.
[X] [Action] Design the Defender Ent
Nice! I'll give the action a major bonus; I see you've thought this through!

--Elves apparently had seemingly arbitrary restrictions on their learning of magic. How does this work, when it seems largely based on understanding?
Incidentally, you'll find that Elves learned everything slowly. Deeply, but slowly.
Barring their Gifts, of course.

During a few Information-Age-like times of rapid development, there was an entire industry around "making sure the older Elves don't have to deal with how fast the world is changing." :p
The younger Elves - while still a touch bewildered by the speed of change - were better off.

-Are the Humans we meet really humanity as we would know them?
If you checked visually, you'd see local hair-colors are wilder than IRL by a ways.
I mean, 75% of people have a real-life hair-color, but the other 25% have things like "bright green" or "you've gotta have blue hair" or "technicolor red" or such.
Otherwise... Aside from a few very rare cases, I can think of anything that would be visibly outside the bounds of humankind as we know them IRL.

DNA? Internal stuff? Magic? Yeah, there might be some differences there, and you certainly don't have the capacity to fully analyze those yet to tell either way.

I will specify that if "Magic" were contained to a single organ - a Magical Core or whatever - in Humans, you'd have noticed and commented on it. So it's not.
(I mean, except insofar as "the brain is the seat of consciousness" and all that. In that sense, the thing you use to direct Magic is your Brain, yes.)

Further addendum: You haven't gotten the chance to scan 100%-Elves much at all, and the stories either don't mention how they work internally or say one of a dozen wild theories (half of which are probably Vampires mocking them and making nonsense up). That said, the stories do agree that they weren't terribly different visually from Humans - pointed ears for sure, a subtle yet present difference in their bodies and faces that made them recognizable yes, a few stories claim their eyes occasionally glowed - but that's most of it.

Situations post has recieved some updates. Once again, anybody with unlisted questions is free to submit them to my fickle attention to possibly be added.
Thanks!

[X][Tree] Mind Tree

[X][Action] Magical Construct Analysis
Welcome to the quest!

Hmm...nah, I am gonna hold until at least we reach Advanced, among other thing. Might as well waiting for at least proto-tree mecha be a thing amirite? :V
Very well, but do keep in mind that if you get 3 ranks of Movement, that means you will always be +3 ranks from the Forest's baseline. So if the Forest gets better, so do you.

Did my choice to become an eldest tree last turn not go through or is this just a visit by the copy paste error fairy?
Didn't go through.
Fixed!

(Being an Eldest Tree wouldn't have made much of a difference to your Write-in, so I don't need to revise the previous turn.)

After the message was sent to the forest from the Last Star, a wave of malice was sent towards the station and 'swatted away'.
That happens occasionally.

actual light was not observed
Best guess: The light was observed, but not well enough to pinpoint the target.
If you're lucky: Not well enough to even have a clue, really, of the target.
If you're unlucky: Well enough that they'll be searching your immediate vicinity if you contact The Last Star even once more. (Though this would likely result in The Last Star just not answering back... An encouraging thought actually. ...Unless the watchers noticed your message and not just the response, but that's considerably harder assuming a clear night.)

Hey, Robinton? What's possible for us to do at Novice Flesh level?
Probably a lot of things with enough time and effort, but easily...
Grow a weird plant/animal hybrid goop. (You could probably make this edible without too much effort, and tasty with a little more. It won't have all essential Meat nutrients initially, but you could reliably find a Wolf or two that would taste-test.)
Slightly assist attempts to close a wound.
Significantly assist someone trying to stretch a muscle.
Sense a confusing mass of Flesh in all Flesh-based life-forms around you. Start to get some clue what makes it up.
Probably other things.

Sooo I'm heavily debating between Wizard Tree and Magic Tree. The wizard tree gets points for name, but the Magic Tree gets points for the stats of it. So yeah not sure which I want to go with.

With some rare exceptions all my actions will be magic research and magic casting, with the last bit referencing anything that is magical. So working with Life Indeed (since its Life Magic) or Monster Energy (since its magical energy) or casting bolts of lightning since its magic or etc etc. If its magic, or magic research, or magic related, then it fits my idea.

But yeah, I'm not sure if I want Wizard Tree or Magic Tree.

--

Also I will make note in my action post that what I am doing is connected to magic, because that is how I see it. Like Magical Construct Analysis is magic related because magical constructs are powered by magic, etc etc.

Whatever you think is reasonable is fine with me. Honestly, your estimates sound pretty fast. Crossing wilderness is pretty slow going, especially without maps and avoiding towns and people. On the other branch, not much need to carry food and supplies, but probably a good idea to spend some time sitting and photosynthesising most days.

If I have to cross a river or something, that could get tricky.

So that's a lot of words to say "I don't know".

Even if I don't make it the whole way or get lost, that's fine. The point is mostly just to put some distance between me and the forest to see what happens. And then experiment with anti-matter magic.
