[X][Action] Light/Darkness Negacion (Magic Research)
I see 12 - Edit: 13, counting the Research Light/Darkness -Destructive Testing vote - uses of Magic Research, though Researching Clever and Lens Trees might both ought to count - which would bring the total to 18 19.

Also, I nerfed Hyperspecialist a bit. See Narrow Focus.
Robiton I should be at 21 now, allowing me to spend my third ancient tree point in the same Narrow Focus as the first two, adding another 4 dice to Magic and Research Magic.

Oir wolf friends were affected by a poison that slowed them down, and some died.

Hypothesis: If we had taken Fire Within boosting actions they would have survived, and it would habe boosted all of our other friend's combat rolls.

Could we make a special tree that passivly gives one dice or autosuccess to a The Fire Within action everh turn?

How many special trees are we allowed to have and how many niche 'what if' scenarios - in this case, on that's proposed based entirely on a hypothesis - are we expecting to use up our special tree slots for that could instead go toward general all-around and always useful boosters?

Maybe instead people could be more willing and prepped to put personal actions into supporting our animals during combat rather than assuming that everything will be fine.

I think you should have a nap or take a walk or something, I myself am too tired and cranky to bother typing out the long paragraph that a comprehensive response to your rhetorical question would require, so I'll just say "that's up to the QM".

My suggestion, if viable, would always be a useful boost for combat situations and when especially useful our friends are attacked unexpectedly
Also, our slots are Magnitude X 10. Depending on how the QM decides such a tree might work, one or two of those slots for a permanent passive combat boost and defence against surprise attacks is something I feel is worthwhile.

Note, the above is not me trying to engage with you to debate your point, but to engage with your post to communicate to other readers why I think such a tree might be worthwhile, if allowed and depending on how the QM decides how it would work 'cuz I have found this interaction to be unenjoyable.

Additional potential benefit for a Fire Within special tree: Continuously stoking the Fire Within could make our creatures permanently stronger, which could improve their noncombat contributions as well.

Also, stoking the Salamander's Fire Within can only make it a more powerful magician, because Fire Within can presumably be used to stoke the Fire Without.

Anyway, I've had some sleep; time to figure out what to do...

edit: Vote stuff now.

As for the Focus votes... Well, I said I wanted to study the Wraith in hopes of replicating its abilities and/or learning to make a more efficient Wraith, and I stand by it. Flesh is... icky, but potentially useful, if only so we can make a Meat Tree to keep carnivores fed. And, of course, Darkness is a proven offensive boon against Vines.

So for those of you who wanted to adopt the Wraith, which I thought was a bad idea:

Good idea. You were right and I was…marginally less right.

Wraith is pretty cool now.

Avo and Gadro are rockstars.

Shame about the wolves. I guess we couldn't get lucky forever, and clearly our enemy is learning fast. Protecting the Evil Vines from light, fire, and animals is hitting a lot of our toolbox.

Idea: Magical/Enchanted items than can be used to channel our darkness magics over an area (not directly interacting with the vines) to reduce growth might be worth investing in someday.
On the other branch, by the time there's another vine planting started, we might be at the point where we are making more generalised 'channel our magics' relays that allow us to more easily use our magics on battlefields a great distance away.

Regarding the Vines:

First, I Was Right.

Second, rushing Light/Darkness Negation and overfilling it will likely enable firing Darkness Lasers to kill the Vines, so consider that as a method of Vine removal. Otherwise, direct Darkness Attack options will likely most help in regards to stopping the Vines as it does not directly interact with the Vines, therefore skipping past their base Magic Resistance, and the biggest issue regarding the Vines seems to be their effective Health Regen, which Darkness helps remove.

I would bet on specific Cold glitch is happening so goodbye!or Fire/Ice Negation attacks being- and the

There was never any obligation for you to reply to my post in the first place if doing so made you that miserable.

Or perhaps you could have taken up your own suggestion and taken a nap or a walk before writing a response so you'd be less cranky and passive-aggressive first.

That said, it became immediately apparent that Law Magic is incredibly abstract, and something that the Forest hardly understands at all - advancing it is going to be nearly impossible (or incredibly expensive at best) for the Forest alone.

Everything that I hoped for: Powerful, nebulous and terrifyingly broken. I would try to figure figure this one out with Materson's help, but...

Hi all,
found this awesome story some days ago and rush to read all the chapters...

Welcome!

[X][Squirrel] Ask Arthur to teach and/or train Betty and Ben Grimm to better defend themselves. There are too many dangers nearby...
Would you consider putting Arthur on the Life Indeed action? It is about the forest learning Life Magic + Spreading it to our connected creatures.
Life Magic enables healing which would make life much safer for our friends.
[ ][Action] Life Indeed
-Arthur Scrat has set you on the path of gaining Life Magic. You Live already, and are quite familiar with Life, but you'd like to also teach your Creatures…
-This will improve the Forest to Competent level, and teach the majority of your Creatures the basics of at least one Magic Element (typically Life).
-This gets a +30% bonus, and 1 free auto-success per turn, from your various Creatures studying this Magic on their own time. This gets a +10% bonus, and a 2nd free auto-success per turn, from Betty Grimm's study of Life Magic. This gets a +15% bonus (plus Creatures will often gain other Magics instead or in addition to Life) from your understanding of the process of gaining Magic.
-10 of 50 successes

Also, i've been thinking of making a whole bunch of slow-release fire magic infused nuts for the village to use in the winter, but instead they could make* some sort of simple piping system that links every house to a single tank of water that draws the river - a shared 'boiler' radiator system, and beside that tank is a nest that is just super comfortable for salamanders to nap in and just live their best lives.
*Metal magic or simple stoneshaping to make the labour costs down.
Or we mage an unusual lumber for that. With Ice/Fire Negacion we might even be able to have a log that heats when it is cold and cools when it is hot.
Shame about the wolves. I guess we couldn't get lucky forever, and clearly our enemy is learning fast. Protecting the Evil Vines from light, fire, and animals is hitting a lot of our toolbox.
Yes, good that our bears overcame that. Now we can have many companions work together on the last patch and then do clean-up.
For the next attack we should make sure that we have new tricks up our sleeves.
Fire/Ice Negation could work.
If we elder a weather tree, we can start using weather at combat speed. Overcast without rain to starve the vines. In emergencies maybe a hurricane to rip them from the ground.
(plus the auto-successes (with current player activity that would be 4.9) for all weather tree actions, which would help the next growth phase)

@Phigment, 24 total actions; Unpredictable Tree; 22 Special; 2 Offense

Innovator * 3! I shall be the Most Unpredictable Tree! My strength shall be as two trees, for my heartwood is pure.

And, on that note...

[X] [Action] Travel as far Southwest as I can, avoiding settlements and intelligent beings, until I either feel my connection to the rest of the Forest weakening, or reach the Friendly Ant territory.

I kind of want to know what our max safe separation distance is, assuming there is one. And then, I can experiment with dangerous magic on the way back! Or, maybe talk to the ants. They seem nice. I mean, "Friendly Ants", right there on the map. Who doesn't like more friends?

Defender Ent Design Log - Razzocnor
Aright, I have finally grown tired of study! Time to actually do something interesting. Partly because I even felt like writing up a pseudo-Omake about this.
[X] [Action] Design the Defender Ent

-Biomancer Tree Ent-form creation log
-Entity: Defender Ent
-Purpose: Self-supporting automated defense system

-Repeated attacks of varying forms have made it clear that danger is ever-present, and there is a need for a being that can be constantly vigilant and alert, ever-ready to respond to any kind of attack upon the Forest. Creatures are very helpful, but they still need to sleep, eat, and take time off. The solution is to create a plant-based being that needs none of these things. With improved knowledge of Movement, along with other magics and techniques, this should easily be possible.

-Basic Defender Ent body design is heavily inspired by various creatures. Original design was to base it off a Two-Leg, but initial tests found bipedalism to be complex and unstable, unsuitable for this first foray into Ent-form design. A 'centaur'-like design was settled on, with four motive limbs and two primary manipulator/attack limbs, though all four 'legs' can also be used to slam at opponents. Primary manipulator limbs have sufficient dexterity to use tools, or more importantly, appropriately sized weapons; as a backup option, they are also covered in metal-tipped Thorns. Sensory pits derived from the Sensing Tree are scattered about its body to provide constant full-coverage sensing ability, though much lesser than a true Sensing Tree. A smaller pair of secondary manipulator limbs provides fine dexterity, should it be needed, or are also useful for lobbing Pollen Grenades or metal-tipped Spikes at Enemies. The main body should be able to produce a steady supply of these simpler weapons, giving the Defender Ent an effective means of engaging at range, so long as Resources from the Forest can be spared should it run low.

-Due to lack of experience in the subject, and the fact that doing so would probably be immoral, the Defender Ent is not intended to have a full Mind, behaving instead like many of the less-awake trees of the Forest. It should be made to be intelligent enough to understand it's duties and execute them, but will also likely perform better with intelligent direction. Some attempts will be made to at least make it smart enough to use an axe, in order to turn the ancestral weapon against tree-kind upon our enemies in a form of arboreal irony and/or vengeance. Its duties will be to patrol the Forest for Enemies using its sensing abilities, and to stay ever ready to respond in case of attacks upon the Forest or our allies, at which point its ability to locomote rapidly thanks to its four flexible motive limbs will allow for quick response.

-When moving more slowly, the Defender Ent can temporarily sink its roots into the ground in order to access the Mycelium network under the soil, allowing it to replenish its supply of nutrients and water; a dense leafy foliage derived from the Collector Trees upon its back will provide photosynthesis such that it can keep up its energy even without this connection, but maintaining full readiness will need regular connection to the Mycelium and root networks in the forest, limiting its ability to act at significant distances.

-In conclusion, the Defender Ent should prove highly effective as a defensive unit for patrolling the forest and retaliating against attacks. It is highly mobile, powerful in melee and equipped with moderate ranged capability, and has effective senses for locating enemies. However, it is dependent on regular support to operate at full capacity and would be hamstrung in activities more than a couple days outside the Forest, though backup photosynthesis and rooting ability would still keep it running at a lower level, enough to return should it find itself separated by hostile action or need to go on a longer expedition for some reason. As an aside, methods used in the creation of the Defender Ent should prove applicable to other similar entities, opening the possibility of a whole new category of special Trees, provisionally referred to as Ent-Forms.
