Having some initial crafting is good. I'd recommend saving up for something really useful next though.

You grasp hold of the mote you can reach, dragging it back from the beyond. You feel something settle into you, resting in some undefinable place. After a moment, you reach for it and feeling the tools that you know reside within, you take a moment to manifest a large crowbar.

You swing the tool a few times, getting a feel for the weight before letting it disappear back to wherever it came from.

Still weary, but refreshed and now feeling a little safer with a weapon close at hand, you dust off your clothes and amble over to the structure peeking out over the small hillock that you had been resting against.

As you crest the hill, you find yourself greeted with a strange sight, a platform with a ramp leading up to a partially embedded silver ring. The ring itself is quite tall, around three times your height, and made of some strange silver metal. Seven glowing orange triangular marks are evenly spaced around the visible portion of the ring.

A simple packed earth path leads away from the ramp, only getting a short way away from the rising sun before disappearing into the woods. Beside it, you see a strange pedestal-like structure. This one is seemingly made of bronze, presenting two rings embossed with symbols around a large red orb of some sort.

As you approach, you give the structure a cursory examination, but you don't seem to find much. You note that the symbols on the pedestal do correspond to the ring and that the symbols and the large red orb seem to be buttons of some sort. Pushing the buttons makes the ring spin, lighting up each of the lights in sequence, but even after all the lights are lit up, pressing the red button doesn't seem to do anything other than cause the lights to turn off.

Eventually, you need to make a decision.

@Emizaquel got to ask a head of time but Machine Shop is repeatable but with so many perks in the tree it would be hard to reeroll so is it possible to make a slight change to rules say for example.

we can manually pick it but it will cost an extra 50cp a level so that way cost more long run but gives us what we want as we be following a path that we already have

also Machine Shop levels im thinking hobbyist's set-high school set-college set-professional set. basically giving it 4 levels, 5 if you want advanced civ set

Really, we just got here, we won't need food for awhile. Looking for it might find something that wants to eat us instead. Whereas an actual road might lead us to people. Which might also be bad, but we don't know that yet.

#1 looks a bit too hyper to me. When I get home I might change to custom, maybe the 4th one from my post above.

I will consider it, but right now, I think the first thing I want to try is to roll multiple times and allow you to pick from what you can afford. I feel like that's going to give you a little more freedom and flexibility in terms of your final build.

In terms of capping the repeatable perk, I'll play that by ear. If a perk doesn't have anything more to give, I'll just reroll it on the backend.

That said, I'm going to avoid any changes for a round or two to see how things go.

Wary of other people and not feeling in good enough condition to protect yourself, you decide to try your luck at finding something to eat in the nearby woods.

[ROLL: 1d100 = 47]

It takes a little while, but eventually, you see something through the trees.

Venison wasn't the first thing on your mind, but you figure that a deer is far less likely to be poisonous than any of the plants you see around here. Quietly and carefully, you make your way over to the animal.

Unfortunately, you spook the creature, and it bolts, fast enough that you don't have a solid idea of which way it went.

Unwilling to chase it down, you instead examine what the buck was eating. A few nuts were scattered across the forest floor. Figuring that if the deer was eating it, it was probably safe enough to eat, you summon a worktable, climb on top of it, and pick what you can reach.

It's not much, and it doesn't exactly taste good - even roasted over a butane torch - but it is enough to push back the worst of the hunger and keep you going a little while longer.

Unfortunately, it appears to be early in the season and most of the nuts are still green.

Now fed, you make your way back to the structure, as the only landmark you remember.

As you settle down, once again, you feel the energy build up within you and reach out.

[Rolled perk Femtofingers (300)]

Unfortunately, the spark you reach for is simply too far away, leaving you with a pool of energy as glowing lights fade away from your awareness.

[Gained 100 points]

Fed, and a little disheartened, you collapse against the hillock where you started, now with a little more knowledge of your surroundings.

A/N: This one's a bit of a freebie since we are just starting, in the future, I'll continue extending with interludes until enough progress has been made. Also, early post because of some last-minute business.

Interlude 2.1
With few options and even fewer resources, you decide to see if you might have some luck following the path.

At first, the path is relatively easy to pick out, but as you find yourself making your way deeper into the forest, the trail begins to become overgrown. But enough of it has survived, and it is in a straight enough line that you manage to make progress.

Still, as the sun descends and the shadows of the trees stretch out, you begin to struggle.

Worried about losing the trail in the dark, you look up at sunset from where you can see it in the clearing when you spot something.

It is a little faint at first, but the thin column of shadow rising up in the distance can only really be one thing.

Fire. A contained fire. Most likely from some form of chimney.

Excited, you begin making your way in that direction, piling up a stool on top of a worktable in order to check your heading.

It is quite dark by the time you escape the forest, entering a clearing largely filled with saplings and tree stumps.

In the distance, across a number of fields demarcated by stones, you can make the silhouettes of several conical roofs sticking out over a larger wooden wall among the crops.

Finally finding some sort of settlement, you collapse against a tree to rest your weary legs and to come up with a more complete plan.

[ ] Head to the village now. It's been hours since the last time you drank, and you've barely had anything to eat. If the weather turns sour you run a serious risk of illness due to exposure.
[ ] Rest until morning. You are thirsty and tired, but a good night's rest will get you back up to speed, and approaching the village at night seems like a bad idea.
[ ] Head deeper into the woods and attempt some sort of shelter. You're tired, thirsty, and hungry. If anything came across you in this state you were in no shape to fight it off. Still, you don't want to spook the villagers by approaching them at night.
