They say the world used to be a very different place.
More dangerous.
Supposedly, Wild Pokémon used to be a lot more aggressive than they are today. An infamous tale even speaks of a Rattata horde, ambushing and besieging an entire platoon of Rangers, leaving no survivors.
Hard to believe, isn't it?
But they say that's how it used to be, back in the day.
Sometimes, you still can't believe that it's been less than a hundred years since Pokéballs have been rediscovered. Every single one of these lost pieces of technology comes with a baby Pokémon inside, ready to be Trained. Ready to be used as a military force.
Since then, Wild Pokémon aggression has gradually and mysteriously calmed down, and they mostly don't attack humans unprovoked anymore.
Who knows how humanity survived, before then?
Well. You do, kinda. But people don't really talk about that, anymore.
Nowadays, it's safe enough that there are even many settlements cropping up outside the strongholds, slowly but surely reclaiming the Wilderness. Already, the oldest one is over ten years old, and still standing. So perhaps they're right, and you're all living in a new age of peace.
Becoming a Pokémon Trainer, though? Not that easy anymore. You can't just pick up a random Pokéball in some ruins, hoping that it matches your Affinity, and then boom, you're a Trainer. Oh, certainly not.
Trainers always end up becoming part of the ruling elite, you see. So of course, only the already-elite get a decent shot at becoming a Trainer at all.
That means you climb military rank and then get lucky enough to secure a suitable Pokéball, or you're born into a background that allows you to enrol into the Academy.
Conveniently, you would be one of the latter. Freshly graduated, in fact, and already assigned a Pokéball that holds your Starter.
As is customary for a rookie, you've been assigned to a squad, and have to report to your new captain immediately. This is also the guy who would be doubling as your teacher until you get promoted, or if you're lucky, even long after that.
There's just a few things that are unusual: Instead of being assigned to an existing squad, all 3 members of your squad are rookies. Even more oddly, none of your Affinities match, so you have no idea how your captain is going to be an effective teacher for you.
Regardless, the rest of your life is about to unfold for you, and hopefully, in only nothing but good ways.
