TreeQuest: Magitech (Riot Quest)

Those portals are a constant problem. They can't remain such. And I have an Idea on how to deal with them... hopefully.

The further out portals haven't closed yet. Something nasty will or is currently coming through them, probably. Likely an attack aimed at the Forest now that we're spread out and distracted.
If you join me in using Focus to elder a shield and an empty tree we'll have much better defenses to deal with those threats.

[X][Action] Analyze Lake

I'm unsure how viable it is to research a way to counteract hellfire from nearly scratch in combat, and I'm pretty sure we can work on it later. But it probably would be harder once we no longer have a living hellhound to study/fight.
Once this is over we can ask Old Man Materson how he did it.
Old Man Materson, slightly battered by the many other Dire Bats, focuses his Will, and- And tears the Fire from one Hellhound, shaping it into a whip that bisects the two unaccounted-for Lesser Wraiths.

[X][Action] Assist Newton Village

Does the above action get a bonus die from being a mind tree or someting else? I feel like probably doesn't.

If not:

[][Action] Coordinate Newton Village
You're a Mind Tree, so you get bonuses on Communication and Research actions. Coordinate Newton Village is a Communication action, so it would have the bonus. Assist Newton Village is Survival, so it would not.

@Robinton on the next turn, could we write in to ask the villagers who are skilled at magic on the they fhink would be good elements to counter the malice and hellfire magics, for techniques to stregenthen our shield, and how to get information on gravity and electromagnetism?
Sure!

I don't think they'll have many suggestions for the Shield, but by all means ask.

Evil/Malice/Hellfire type Magics in general tend to be annoying to counter. Not impossible - far from it - but annoying.

Gravity and Electromagnetism - it might take you a while to get, but there are almost certainly books on these back in one of the two nearest cities. Not a lot of such books, but enough to be useful.

So, might be nothing, might be water or it might be something else. Earth magic does allows us to sense metal and such, correct?
Correct.
Well, ultra-pure and/or ultra-high-tech metal get iffy. Like Metalbending, more or less.
But you'd expect half a mile of metal to be sensed via Earth Magic, even if you wouldn't be quite sure what you were sensing exactly.

Can we store shield successes in limestone?
Write-in to attempt.
Better to do outside of combat; if done in combat, I'll basically turn any success into something combat-related.
If done out of combat, you can ask Newton Village about it.
Though Linestone is fairly bad at storing power from one month to the next; it's more of a days-to-a-week-or-two thing.

Maybe copying and analysing the snek will be good for movement research later...well, killing the remaining one is a priority. Blind or not, it's still a huge snek after all~

....I wonder if we can just...analyses the carcass later on and like grow from it? Like literally turning the snake into somekind plant-animal monstrosity? Morbid thought but hey, more movement :V

Attempting to create a huge plant-snake is on my to-do list.

We might want to start with a snake less corrupted by Malice though.

There, a new Connection target: Snakes! There's sure to be some around. The squirrels might have some enmity though, since most snakes are rodent-eaters. The villagers might like having some voracious rat-eaters around though, if we removed the usual threat of getting bitten. And having some venomous creatures on our side would provide an in on learning about venoms and poisons.

[X][Action] Oh, that worked well. Telekinetically attack dire bat wings - focus on doing just enough damage to ensure allies have easy kills before moving on to the next bat.

Go Arthur Go!
Looks like him accepting death let him acquire power over Life
[X][Action] Assist Arthur Scrat
I did say I'd help him, I'm still going to do it

HeruKane, 6 total actions; Mind Tree; 5 Research; 1 Offense.

Oh cool. Thanks for the count! I appreciate it. (It was probably easier for you to find then me)

So I'm pretty sure that the offense was magic casting - which is in theme for my tree, he doesn't just research magic but he is also all for using magic once he figures it out.

I think I might go 'Wizard Tree' or 'Magic Tree', not sure which is the better option. Though I'm not there yet, obviously.

[X][Action] Continue previous action of combining principles of Ice-Fire Negacion with Fire Within, doing destructive testing on enemies.
[X][Focus] Assist Old Man Materson
[X][Focus] Analyze Lake
[X][Focus] Analyze Lake ×2
[X][Focus] Coordinate Newton Village

You currently have 6 Write-ins, yes.

Edited to clarify: You have Earth Magic and the ability to sense Earth (soil, dirt, rock, etc.) through it. You sense:
1. Evil Lab Caverns Thing.
2. Above this, a moderate layer of rock/etc.
3. Above this, about half a mile of <currently unknown; might be empty>.
4. Above this, Sunlight.

Actually, you'd probably also sense some clouds and such way up there somewhere.

There are a few other things you might have sensed with a really good roll, but you only got a fairly good roll.

Edited two turns ago to clarify. They closed within ~1 minute of opening. That's probably actually partway through this turn, effectively, really. But the first would probably have closed right about the start of this turn...

How am I lookin in terms of updates?

I am planning to vote when I am off work.

[X][Action] Heal the sick animals. We saw what Authur Scrat did, and we can replicate it. Use it to get our critters back on their feet and acting as reinforcements for Newton Village.
[X][Focus] Illusion Search
[X][Focus] Hellfire? (Magic Research)
[X][Focus] Analyze Lake

Oh wow! oh wow wow wow!

Soooo cool!

Scrat is a HERO! A bloody HERO who can do Life MAGIC! Oh man he is awesome.

This was a fantastic update. So cool man, so cool.
Damn. Arthur Scrat had a near death experience, and developed life magic. MVP.
And thus did the Squirrel Knight take the first step on his Mythic Path.
Woohoo! Artur lives!

That.

Little.

Absolute.

LEGEND.

[X] Attempt to either disorient or preferably 'mentally lock' the Dire Bats with Poison.
-[X] You aren't hopeful, but if you can keep them alive but useless through the battle, you'd love to investigate their poison. Both to find uses for it or similar substances and to find ways to defend against them.

This valid @Robinton ?

"Forest? Can he have a super-fire-ice mirror?"
That sound like fun, can we do that for him after we survive this?

[x][Action] Assist Targeting

[X][Focus] Assist Arthur Scrat
[X][Focus] Ice/Fire Negacion
[X][Focus] Coordinate Newton Village

I think the the "ensuring minimum of the Forest's capabilities being seen by outsiders" part is going to be rather important...

[X][Action] Raise the Shield
[X][Focus] Assist Arthur Scrat
[X][Focus] Assist Old Man Masterson
[X][Focus] Aid the Millers
[X][Focus] Upgrade Shield Tree to Elder

Alright. My plan here?

1. Keep that Shield UP! We need it to be sure more people get out of this alive.
2. Upgrade the Shield Tree to ensure our Shield gets better.
3. Help out Scrat. He deserves it.
4. Help out Masterson. He's one of the main reasons we're winning this.
5. Help the Millers. They need it.
