Ahh, back to questing. Happy with how things have gone, it's nice to see Amy phasing into the group, Xander's being more reasonable, and Principal Flutie being alive is a great consequence.

I'm torn on whether Willow and Xander should be a thing to aim for or not. Xander wouldn't want to ruin his oldest and best friendship with hormones when he doesn't feel the same, but at the same time Willow isn't going to give up on the idea of Xander anytime soon, we don't want her doubting she's worth love, and a more mature Xander could grow feelings for her. Neither of them have any experience with relationships, Xander's got a pretty bad idea of them in fact from his parents, so it needs handling carefully either way.

Of course I also love Cordy to death and if Xander handled things better and the Fluke didn't happen that could've been a great relationship, even with Cordy wanting to escape all the danger and move to LA after graduation.

I loved both Oz and Tara as characters and partners for Willow, so while I'm open to dating Willow, I worry they might not end up part of the group as a result.

What are people's feelings about pairings? Willow, yay or nay? Amy? Cordy? Hang on for eventual Buffy?

Honestly, I prefer friendship over romance. I know Xander wants a girfriend, but I don't want to risk damaging the friendships between the characters so I'm not sure how to reconcile those goals. My gut reaction is that Amy is the safest choice, but that would put her at odds with Willow, and then Buffy might feel obliged to pick sides. I think Cordy ticks off both Willow and Buffy. I don't mind Xander and Willow dating if it doesn't feel forced, but I don't want to risk Xander leading her on accidentally.

Proving Grounds
Despite your reluctance, you agree to help at least ask around the students to see what you can find out about who might have seen something near the girl. You end up talking to Cordelia, who for once is fine with your presence and talking to you, despite being a loser. Perhaps because you are giving her a chance to talk about herself, and she does love doing that. You end up trapped in a gossip session for her that you can't seem to escape for over an hour. At least you picked up some interesting things about people in your grade, even if you have no idea what use the knowledge that Chad is dating Britney could possibly be.

The others found out that the dead girl was last seen near Morgan and his dummy. The guy was strange apparently. And Buffy was getting convinced that the dummy was alive and attacking people. Giles had found a demon that needed to kill once every seven years taking a fresh brain and heart to maintain human form, but Buffy was getting set on it being the dummy. She'd been right before on her hunches, so maybe she was right that it was actually something supernatural instead of a mundane murder. It was encouraging that they were finding weirdness, even if it still meant that there was something killing on the loose. At least weird was something you could actually fight.

Morgan got the dummy confiscated during class, and being the whiz you are, you slipped the dummy away and took it to the library. If Buffy wanted to talk to Morgan without the dummy there, or fight the dummy, you had her back. Even if Buffy wasn't right, you might still score some points. You sat with the dummy and read through a comic book as Buffy went to look for Morgan and confront him.

You may not have been as careful on watch as you should have been, as Buffy came back with the dummy. The dummy who was apparently alive and a cursed demon hunter, who had just had his partner killed and brain taken because you had separated them and the demon had taken its chance. You did your best to push away any thoughts of that. Morgan might have still died after the teacher took the dummy, and Buffy had been sure she needed to talk to Morgan alone. And you had slipped up watching him!

Yeah, this wasn't really working...

You still had time before the talent show to find the culprit at least. Morgan had brain cancer, so the demon couldn't use his brain. It would still be looking for another target. You would be sticking close to Willow, since she would be an attractive target for such a kill, while Buffy and the dummy scoured the rest of the talent show entrees.

Buffy succeeded. She came back, and the dummy was back to being a normal dummy. No longer alive. For some reason Buffy looked sad about it, like she hadn't been creeped out by the thing. Didn't make sense to you, but the day was saved. Apparently the demon had been the kid with the really bad magic act, and he'd gone for Cordelia's brain.

Things went back to normal with that, at least for a while. You practiced self defense, Amy studied magic with Ms Calendar, Willow helped Giles in the library, and Buffy did Buffy stuff. Amy was starting to get an actual hang on magic, though she admitted that she found Ms Calendar's tech magic a little intimidating. It was cool watching her float popcorn into her mouth when you hung out together. Willow was talking about maybe joining her learning, though Amy wasn't there when she went over to ask if she could join. She wasn't in school either, and Ms Calendar hadn't seen her around.

I do want to give a quick guarantee that whatever happens, their friendships will be alright. It would take a big betrayal to lose them, Xander dating someone is just a blip. Sure it might hurt Willow if it's not her, but she can move on, and Xander isn't gonna sacrifice his friends just for making out

Xander's investigation didn't go as far as I was expecting. I'm surprised that Cordelia was willing to talk to him for so long. I guess the murder really shook her up.

Let's make sure that Amy is alright and not kidnapped by her mother or anything.

Yep, missing friend is the priority here, especially as I'm not sure how "sealed" the new friendship between her and Xander is yet. I'm inclined to think this is a false flag though and she's just feeling a bit overwhelmed in the same way Xander is right now.

Even if it's nothing bad she'll -probably?- appreciate Xander showing concern for her absence at least and we really should get in the habit of checking on missing friends early on given we live on a Hellmouth.

It's way too early for Rack right? Because dark magic drug dealer is a bad end for Amy this early.

I guess first off I think we shouldn't assume Xander having a relationship now means it will be endgame. Xander/Willow happening early might just fail but defuse their later infatuation in season 3.

Willow is a good option I think. I liked Cordy too but I think like waiting for her is not great. Don't really care about Amy as a character that much, although she could grow on me. I think Buffy/Xander wouldn't work.

As a friend, Xander would naturally want to look for her. I'd actually find Xander sympathizing with Amy because of the crap backgrounds they share at home and his direct interventions to help her.

Street Search
You wanted to think that Amy was alright, but one of your friends going missing rubbed you far too wrong. You had to look for her. You went back to her place again to poke around and look for any hints of what had happened, and you asked Ms Calendar about what had happened the last time she'd seen her. Amy had just been following her normal routine it seemed. She was just missing from where she was supposed to be now.

You headed to the Bronze and scanned through the crowds in case she had decided to go down there by herself. Nothing. The ice cream parlor was empty too, unless you counted the couple necking in the back. Giles was starting to get concerned when you asked him if Amy had been in the library at all, explaining that she'd gone missing. He tried to assure you that it could be nothing, but you could see that he didn't even believe that himself.

There was one more place you could look for her. It wasn't one you wanted to go to. If Amy was there, she probably wasn't alright, even if she was physically fine. If she wasn't, but her mom was, you'd just drawn attention you didn't want. You had been searching for Amy for three hours now however, and you couldn't stop at this point. So back to her mother's house it was.

You knocked on the door once, and then again when no one answered. You looked around checking if anyone was near before testing the door. It was open. You stepped in and started looking through. "Hello?" The place was more messy than the last time you'd been here. Not so much that it was unlivable or anything. It was more like it was no longer kept picture perfect. You moved through the room looking at the traces of how Amy's mom lived her life. It was so weird to think about, picking through a friend's mom's house like this.

"Hello?" you called again. You were positive no one was here, but it felt better to call out as you poked through the empty house. You headed upstairs to the bedroom and opened the door. A small shrine was set up on the dresser. Chills ran up you.

Wow, that's creepy. Was the shrine in the mother's room or Amy's former room?

[X]Get Giles

Giles should be able to identify who the shrine is to and any possible countermeasures.
