In Fine, Solum Est Tibi (A Quest in Rome, During The Fall of the Republic)

I mean let's worry about spouses when we see our options. We don't know what we're dealing with yet. Besides Caesar, who uh, is a MASSIVE no for me.

At least most of the men/women we can marry in our life are fictional and or competent… or both.

And very well written but that is a given.

Because dammit I'm the QM and I can do what I need to do for the quest.

-[X]You are an only child. The Gods cursed your Father, and thus, made you alone in your family name.
-[X]The Patrician You are a patrician, the true nobility of Rome, the upper class of the Republic. Yours is an ancient family, hailing back to the very founding of Rome itself, and some would say even older than that, following Aeneas, all the way from Troy. Once, your family had numerous branches across the Republic, and were respected and held in high regard by the people and the Senate of Rome alike. But one by one, your line died out and your name fell into disrepute, from the plague, from war to Hannibal's butchery of Canne massacring several lines all at once. The name you have quickly devolved from respect to something of the dredges of society becoming associated with flesh merchants and slavers. A member of your family has not held the Consulate, or even sat in the Senate, for well over a century. Your father, through his actions, has started well on the path to restoring the long-lost honor of your name, but with him dead, the legacy of your family rests upon your shoulders.

-[X]You have siblings: Your Mother survived your birth and gave your father more children (Will roll a d8 for the number of siblings that you have.)
-[X]The Plebian You are a plebian, one of the common folk. Your family is a family of soldiers and has been for as far back as memory can reach. The most famous of your family, a respected hero Flavius, won laurels for his service in the Punic Wars against Carthage over a hundred years ago, and even rose to sit on the Senate. He rose through glory from his actions and deeds in service to the Republic, a soldier to the bone, and that legacy still runs in your family. His achievements were the very apex of your family name, and are the reason you can count yourselves among the nobilis of Rome, those authorized to sit on the Senate. His glory was a height your father strove to reach but could never match. As a soldier and a plebian alike, you will have more support among both the army and the people, facilitating a rise through the ranks of Roman government, but you will be looked down upon by the largely patrician Senatorial class -- the very class you seek to join.

Wow, Lone Wolf's massive lead has shrunk in quite a short time.

So any more questions because tonight there will the rules and mechanics showing up to keep you occuplied

Can I just say how happy I am from the response from you all for the first part of the quest, it feels amazing at the response and the conversations that have been happening have been (chefs kiss) amazing.

Among the many people in our employ, do we have a potential Herodutus among them? Kind of want to further bolster the historical writing practices [with honest to God sources] he championed.

And on the sillier, do we have access to a decent bard? [What's worse is that I have more.]

You have several scribes under your employ and at least one who actually cites their sources.

Hell he isn't even a slave he just works for you.
And on the sillier, do we have access to a decent bard?
No.

No, as in "No, we don't a musician" or "No, even Michael Scott thinks it's overboard"?

And I wasn't lying about having more. [There's still more in reserve]

All I have to say is this.
Your Father believed in one simple phrase, that dominated his entire life. People are Power. Slaves, friends, soldiers, and comrades, were the power that made a person powerful. Those that could control them, make them follow them, or even just own them... it did not matter.

He saught above everything else, to always have the most skilled people working for him, the most dedicated slaves to handle his every need and help him in his projects.

Nothing more could ever really make him decide that buying and training slaves were something that he decided to have. If he could not get a workforce that could do what he wished to do, it would have been for nothing. Sure the land that fed you was nothing that many would not envy, considering the rumors and curses, but it was bountiful in most years to feed the growing number of slaves that were now running the villa.

Speio.
The Eldest of the slaves your father purchases, a woman that was a more a servent that assisted him with everything that your mother, a woman that was more your grandmother than your actual grandmother. She had always been there to manage your affairs, and the affairs that you went through in Public. Above all else, she was quiet, loyal and seemed to have the entire Villa's ear, when you were not around. She mothered 7 children in her time here, and you knew if she were younger, she would keep on going. Nearing 70, you knew she is not long for the world, but her wisdom was nothing short of static, and all who were wise would listen to her as she spoke.

Ion:
Your Mothers eldest and only surviving Brother, he was enslaved during a raid that lead your father to meet her. He had been nothing short of a taskmaster, and while he was, in every word, still a slave, your father treated him as a member of the family. Despite his misgivings, and still his desire to be a free man, he runs the farm and vineyard well, and if he were to ask, he could lead a defense of the villa with expertise. A man of 40, he is well and truly on his way to earning his freedom. His children, unlike their father, are free and live in the villa.

Caecilia Antia.

A Roman girl whose father owed a debt to yours and found herself enslaved because of it. She became a slave to your father when she was only 5, and knew no other life. But your father, knowing she was a good, honest roman woman, did not treat her as a slave but as a surrogate daughter, before your birth. Despite her failings, and that of her father, she was a dutiful and wonderful student of the arts, mastering painting, sculpting, and writing all before she was 20. She is the main administrator, letter writer, and entertainer of the Villa, and its primary teacher when it comes to reading and writing. A woman of 24, she is married to another fellow slave, with her contract soon coming to a close, she and her family will soon be free, but considering the loyalty, she has for your father's legacy, and to you, she will most likely remain on your staff.

Pip.
A Gaul Mercenary that was captured by your father during a campaign. He was only a child, 17 when he was captive, but he had already been a captain of a local war band for nearly 5 years prior. So he says at least. But instead of becoming a gladiator, he had decided to be your fathers, personal assistant, and slave, while in his final tour of duty in the legion, and when he was a Senator. He was a good man, and above all else, a born warrior and leader of men. Had he not been captured, your father said. He would have united the Gauls and led them against rome. He cares not for honor, but for victory. A man of 30, he is in the prime of his life and will follow you to the depths of the underworld, sword in hand. He owes a blood debt to your father... do not waste it.

Is the French Gaulic Merenary named pip an intentional Hellsing reference I wonder, either way I now will exclusively think of him as looking like Hellsing pip but with roman style clothing in my head.

I was gonna write down my thoughts on all of them but basically besides Speio (Who probably won't last particularly long in the Quest), we should do what we can to keep these people loyal.
