A good argument.Rather than the blind panic- we need to understand that focuses, you get 4 successes so at most 4 missiles a focus. Instead by using our focuses on growth actions we get 34 success per focus.
@Raising Kittens would any trees converted to elder happen in time to use them against the missiles?
Interesting that we are getting a full turn here. Turns are normally an indeterminate but significant period of time, while this situation is unlikely to last more than minutes to days. Yet we have time for full research and growth actions.
Odd.
The laser tree should give us proper weapons, although we will need to finish the research on them and then grow some.
Efficiency would be upgrading collector or tranquil trees, defensive is upgrading magnetic trees when we know more attacks will follow. Otherwise players should do the appropriate anti-missile action. That way we have 3 elder magnetic trees for next time (which are +3 successes each compared to +1 from non elder magnetic trees). Basically once we upgrade our magnetic trees to elder magnetic we have a base 21 success shield before any player actions.I told you all that I wasn't paranoid to constantly have the shield raised, the time for efficiency plans is not now, the time for multi-layered defenses is now!

Unfortunate.
Fair enough. The hostile party will realize they don't have enough stuff present for a meaningful follow-through, so you get a 'full' turn instead of combat rounds.
As we are now a Magnitude 4 forest we have 4 Focus actions rather than 3.[X][Focus] Upgrade (Magnetic Tree)
[X][Focus] Upgrade (Magnetic Tree) x2
[X][Focus] Upgrade (Magnetic Tree) x3
Be aware that the first 29 successes on Twist have no effect. Only with 30 will it turn on.[X][Action] Utilize the Twist power to alter the apparent size of the Forest (Gravity)
-This action alters the target profile of the currently incoming missiles, potentially screwing with their programming and causing them to miss. This variant is more difficult than the standard variant, but on success it alters the success tables for the incoming missiles, changing from a success on a 4, 5, or 6 to a 5 or a 6.
-This action does not bank successes. 0/30.
A hundred missiles are going towards, if we can reduce their chance of hitting our shields by a third then we can hopefully save ourselves a lot of damage.
Our Survival stockpile is pretty big, so we can probably tank this, and safeguard against future attacks by upgrading magnetic trees. Focusing on Growth actions is so much more efficient than defense actions, since we get 13 automatic sucesses to each of them.Unfortunate.
Now the question becomes whether or not we have enough player trees contributing to defence that we can afford growth focuses rather than shields.
Fair enough.
Wonder if it is the mostly intact battleships or the giant anomalous battle-station that gives the unknown enemy pause.

Additionally even if all 100 missiles live to make their attack roll (very unlikely) the Twist will only stop approximately 16.6 of them.
30 successes to stop 17 missiles is a very inefficient defence.
37 success vs 100 dice before player actions, as long as players that are not growth or research focused do the appropriate action we will manage. As it is shield focus is only 4 successes so we would still need players. For growth focuses though elder magnetic trees means we can do better against whatever they follow this up with.Unfortunate.

19 base, 34 thanks to special circumstances for growth focuses. vs 4 for non growth focusesOur Survival stockpile is pretty big, so we can probably tank this, and safeguard against future attacks by upgrading magnetic trees.
