The world is on the brink, and forces threaten to tip it over yet further. As [DIRECTOR], this cannot be allowed.
Turn 1 (Debrief Phase)
Location
Albania
Pronouns
He/Him
Normal life is a constant. People wake up, go to their jobs, slave away hours of labour to uncaring corporate overlords or government jobs. They go home, perhaps to an empty house, or if they are lucky, someone.

The world hangs on the brink, two warring superpowers deciding the fate of it, fresh off a conflict that consumed the entire world and now armed with weapons that could forever kill the planet. Their games of intrigue run deep, a war that has grown cold and quiet, fought in the dark with tricks and propaganda.

However, a greater threat is present in the world. Circling these great powers are fiendish things, looking to twist the world to their ends, uncaring of the consequences that their actions bring. And those are the reasonable ones, others just delight themselves in violence, living moment to moment and causing carnage for no reason beyond its sake.

There is a mantle that grasps, the station of [DIRECTOR], a new position carved out of meaning and emplaced with purpose. A bunker at the end of the known world, hidden from sight and sense is its station, binding you with it, never to leave without returning until the ceaseless task is complete. A mistake you would never take back.

Currency is drawn from the [BOARD], inventions of security, spectres of government, purely factual and demanding results. They do not brook failure, punishing it by draining away resources, even if that makes the task they want to be done nigh impossible. Frigid bastards with unending want.

But your task is not a lonesome one, it couldn't possibly be. Men and women join you, some willingly, others not, but all with an experience of the unnatural that forced them to accept the truth, and then the mantle of [INVESTIGATOR] drew them here, granting them nothing and giving them every ounce of responsibility they could ever crave. Loose cannons but they get results. You adore them.

When finally a mission comes to a head and the monster needs slaying, the mantle of [AGENT] dragged them here a tenth of a second from death in battle. They are armed, armoured and equipped at the highest levels money can buy. They do the bloodier work, the cruel sort of work that sees humans slaughtered like cattle. Good soldiers, every last one.

The world is at war, shadows crawl through the night, human and worse. Your work is cut out for you.

But now, it's time to wake up, [DIRECTOR].
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The grey concrete ceiling greets you, a constant of this place. Rising up, you walk over to your desk, biting into a bagel and settling a coffee cup to the side of a typewriter, pulling the striped tie a bit tighter. On it, debriefs for developing situations scrawl upwards, slowly pressing upwards.

Taking a sip of the coffee, black as tar with underlinings of whiskey. It sharpens you, settles you and focuses you. Letting you read debriefs with a clear mind.

OPEL GREEN
LOCATION: BRITISH ISLES, SOMERSET, WELLS

The city of Wells is minor, unassuming. One would never guess a triple murder happened just six hours ago. The report is as follows.

"A thorough reading of police reports suggests that Strangeness is occurring here, [DIRECTOR]. Three murders that resulted from the total dehydration of the subjects are top of the local rumour mill. Coroners reports don't know what to make of it, police are losing their minds and MI5, British internal intelligence, are circling the mess like vultures."

Not much to go off. Never really is. But a city, English-speaking and dealing with local agencies gives a baseline.

CHARIOT TRACKS
LOCATION: SOVIET ASIA, PRIMORSKY KRAI, VLADIVOSTOK

Vladivostok, the eastern head of the Soviet Bear. A frigid place, boiling tar smoke pumped into the air by the tonne. The report reads as follows.

"Local KGB plants have reported a cult, preaching what may be anti-Soviet propaganda. Their symbology seems to be ladened with Strangeness. It does not meet Soviet requirements to be stomped out and is not outwardly violent. This is at odds with their mass usage of blood for the aforementioned symbology. KGB has left this alone."

Something meatier, off the books and without interference from higher agencies. Cults pile bodies quickly when agitated, however. You have to keep in mind the locals, Russian-speaking and Asian majority.

SWAMP KNIFE
LOCATION: UNITED STATES, LOUISIANA, NEW ORLEANS

New Orleans, a lively city from your memory. Full of strangeness on its own, as the report pulls itself upwards further to reveal secrets.

"EMERGENT CASE, two hours ago, individuals caught on traffic cameras with Strangeness related conversions. Two total, they appear to be cavorting across the city, having killed sixteen individuals and drawn four more into frenzies. Damage to the local Normality is becoming uncontrollable. Handle it now [DIRECTOR]."

Something for your [AGENTS] then. Good, you can get them blooded earlier rather than later.

With that in mind, the [BOARDS] ever so eloquent demands ringing in your head, you pull the paper out of the typewriter, storing it in a desk drawer for safekeeping. Opening a second drawer, just below it, you pull a manila folder and place it on the desk.

Handling it carefully, you pull open the folder and start reading the personnel documents. Your Investigators.

-NAME: Nikitina Lenka Leonidovna "Nikita"
AGE:37
PLACE OF BIRTH: SOVIET UNION, LENINGRAD
PREVIOUS OCCUPATION: War Reporter

EVENT:
During the Vietnam Conflict, Nikita was a front line reporter for the North Vietnamese Army. She engaged in colour photography and intelligence gathering for Soviet attaches in the region. When following a Viet Cong unit deep into the jungle, she ran into a conflux of Strangeness. Upon recovering physical congruence, the call of the [INVESTIGATOR] drew her here.

LANGUAGES: Russian, English, Vietnamese.

-NAME: Vernon Landry
AGE: 26
PLACE OF BIRTH: UNITED STATES, BALTIMORE
PREVIOUS OCCUPATION: Central Intelligence Agency Field Agent

EVENT: Whilst destabilizing Central American governments, Landry was driven to search for a hidden rebel base in the deep jungle. Upon investigation it turned out the rebels were engaging in Strangeness, offering blood sacrifices to an ancient entity. Whilst napalm fire incinerated them and the deity, Landry couldn't shake the call, and eventually came to you.

LANGUAGES: English, Spanish, Portuguese.

-NAME: Christoph Preis
AGE: 55
PLACE OF BIRTH: GERMANY, BRUNSWICK
PREVIOUS OCCUPATION: Thule Society Occultist

EVENT:
An individual who engaged in Strangeness during The War, afterwards, they resisted the call of the [INVESTIGATOR] for many years, fearing it as a negative impulse. Pressure from hunting forces as well as the weariness of age forced him towards you. With that acceptance, he now operates as an [INVESTIGATOR]

LANGUAGES: German, Russian, Polish, Latin, Aramaic, Assyrian, Babylonian, Etcetera.

Pulling that closed and shuffling it off to the side. You think over the missions, considering how to approach them. But that can wait until you read through the last folder, just recently appearing in a third drawer.

-TASK FORCE ONE
"IVANS"

EVENT: Sourced from a group of Alfa Grup that was decimated in an ill-conceived assault on a political opponent of the Party. The opponent was not human, greatly afflicted with Strangeness and was able to overpower the squad, granting them entry into the life of an [AGENT]. Each individual seemingly died in sight of the others, giving them great loyalty to one another.

SQUAD STRENGTH: 12
SQUAD EQUIPMENT:
Heavy, explosives, light machine guns and AT weaponry.
SQUAD PURPOSE: Extreme Force.

-TASK FORCE TWO
"JARHEADS"

EVENT: CIA operations in Vietnam led to this squad of Marines being confronted with and annihilated by a local Strangeness. Upon near-death, each soldier was reinstated as an [AGENT]. The separation and apathy between one another may be a useful tool.

SQUAD STRENGTH: 15
SQUAD EQUIPMENT: Medium, hand grenades, rifles and White Phosphorous.
SQUAD PURPOSE: General.

-TASK FORCE THREE
"CIVILIANS"

EVENT:
Deep cover operation gone wrong led to a large squad of MI6 operatives being butchered by local guerillas, those that survived the encounter were driven into the countryside, encountering a Strangeness formed of dust and shadow. That encounter proved to be their initiation into [AGENT] life. They all specialize in keeping a low profile, but were generally distrustful of one another in their previous life.

SQUAD STRENGTH: 10
SQUAD EQUIPMENT: Light, handguns, sub-machine guns and other such weapons of stealth.
SQUAD PURPOSE: Quiet Operations, Capture.

Pulling the dossiers closed, it's time to decide on the path forward. For the world's sake.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello and welcome to NIGHTWATCH, a supernatural [AGENCY] quest in the Cold War! You will take the role of the [DIRECTOR], the, well, director of the whole operation.

To describe the initial mechanics, all you need to do is pair an [INVESTIGATOR] and/or [AGENT] squad to a chosen OPERATION. Do so in a PLAN FORMAT and we can begin.

Operation History
The operation took place in Britain, in the city of Somerset. CIVILIANS were assigned and took point, engaging in the infiltration of local police. Investigation of the body was uninformative but wiretapping of police telephones was successful. Upon following call to location of origin, Entity #001 was encountered and subdued with 4 [AGENT] deceased.

DESIGNATION:Entity #001
CAPTURE DATE: 02/22/1970
THREAT-LEVEL: MEDIUM
CONTAINMENT METHOD: IMMERSION IN DEHYDRATING MATERIAL.
ENTITY DESCRIPTION: A human-like appearance, their skin is clear, revealing internal structures such as muscle, bone and connective tissues clearly.
GENERAL INFORMATION: Structure seems liquid, bullets pass through internal tissue as if it was liquid.

This operation took place in the city of Vladivostok, in the Soviet Union. Nikita and Pries were assigned to investigate the cult found within it. Rather quickly it was determined that they do exist, and then [AGENT] Pries took the matter into his own hands, engaging in a thorough purge of the cult. He received a neurological injury in the process.

This operation took place in the United States, in the city of New Orleans. Initially a quick infiltration and discovery of target location, it turned into a hellish illusory mess that the IVANS only just barely escaped, followed by them breaching into the upper floors of the target building, attempting to capture the targets, failing and rendering them deceased in self-defence.

[X] A place for everything
OPEL GREEN
CIVILIANS

I'm sending the journalist with the general-purpose forces to hopefully keep this from blowing up. I would have sent the even lighter task force, but there's a small chance the Strangeness here is more than it seems.
EDITED: Removed the task force. Hopefully, the journalist doesn't get murdered
EDITED2: Added the Civilians task force, a dozen X MI6 sounds like a decent safety net and they're good at being undercover as well. (Also their probably less out of place here than in Asia...)
EDITED3: Getting the Russian out of there. Hopefully, the sneaky guys can handle this on their own!
CHARIOT TRACKS
Nikita AND Christoph Preis

Seems like the best thing to keep a low profile about and they so far seem not hostile and are possibly the most "occult" of the strange things going on.
EDITED: On second thoughts, just sending him, for now, seems like a better plan. He is an occult specialist and speaks the language.
EDITED 2: Seems like these two will make a fine duo, one to dig up the info and one to know what's going on. One is also a Russian which should blend in well (ish) considering its Soviet land and the German... Well, there are things that would stand out more.
SWAMP KNIFE
Vernon Landry AND IVANS

I feel this one is pretty obvious, we've got something causing a bit of hell so we should send the X spook and the heaviest weapons we've got. This should deal with it quickly.

Is this an acceptable plan?

That's true! But on 1/3 of these (and maybe 2/3 depending on how the mess in the isles is?) subtlety is already kind of out the window.
And in the US we can say it was terrorists which warranted military intervention! COMMUNIST TERRORISTS!
Or is the situation in the UK not to the point where "Sending in what amounts to a SWAT team" is acceptable?

In the United States, you can certainly manage, though explaining the Russian will be difficult. But in the UK, you already have MI5 tangling underfoot, as well as the government not typically deploying armed police.

[X] Plan: Worse on at face value, to hopeful better.
-[X]SWAMP KNIFE
--[X]Send in Vernon Landry and Jarheads
---[X] Emergency level case. Deal with it as needed. Allowed use of Local assets and past links.
-[X]CHARIOT TRACKS
--[X]Send in Nikita and IVANS
---[X] KGB has as not yet reaching needed to stamp out, change there minds. And if doesn't work, allowed to do so yourselves.
-[X]OPEL GREEN

If you needed ideas for what they are doing Dapper, I can add it.

Also this one is a question I feel should be asked in the threat, can we assign multiple agents/squads to one mission? I would assume no but probably better to ask.
And do we need to post details for our plans or is it just "look YOU'RE the professionals, figure it out when you get there." enough?

You could assign more agents, it'd be a solid idea for operations with many aspects.

You can provide instruction and direction, but they are professionals, on average.

Agents can indeed use their past, though keep in mind that raising suspicion of you may have adverse effects. You can okay working with local assets as well, though again, raising suspicion.
Give how high some it will already be. Can it be used to cover actions? Like CIA Taskforce dealing with a Cell against the United States?

The preferred method of handling these things is moving too quickly to be seen. If that fails then Investigators or Agents will concoct cover stories.

Plan looks good but shouldnt we switch IVAN and Jarhead? The Jarheads in my opinion can handle those 6 dudes while the cults may have an unknown amount of enemies that may warrant having more firepower. Added bonus of making it look natural since each unit is to their own country's area. Saying this cause I'd basically just make the same plan so best to just ask to consolidate. votes

Trying to keep things simple before we see how this plays out. Nikita is good at investigating and low profile. Meanwhile for Chariot Tracks we know the Cult's iconography- and we seemingly have KGB folders on them, that means we need to look at the Strangeness of the cult itself to figure more things out. Swamp Knife is just the CIA Spook who knows American agencies the best, is relatively low profile- the Jarheads explicitly worked for CIA spooks in the past, and maybe we can bait out the two hostiles by letting one of the Jarheads get swept up in the frenzy.

That is a good idea, I will change it. Main reason was, the fire power. But that is a good reason.
