Puella Magi Persona Magica!

I would probably want to wish for something that compliments our Persona summoning power, like allowing us use of them outside of Barriers etc, since I'm worried they're going to be overshadowed by other things, and the powerset is already versatile and scalable with the more Social Links we have.

@AllyDJ Could the character sheet be updated with the other Personas we have now please?
You can learn to summon Personae outside barriers and other things that allow it without wasting a Wish on it. Your personae will upgrade through social links, and operate on an entirely separate pool of resources from Magical Girl abilities, in addition to being usable perfectly fine at the same time-you can do stuff while your Persona is doing stuff.

Upgrading your persona ability will run into the same problem I have with a wish to enhance the abilities of the other magical girls: I don't know what I'd do with it. You already have access to a great many things through it. The overshadowing is the explicit reason you don't have storybreaker potential with your wish and are instead middling on that front.

Also, pretty sure the personae are updated properly now. Sorry about that.

I would normally say a vote like this should have a moratorium, but we have been discussing wishes for a while already so eh. I'm not an ideas guy though, so I'll just wait for something... or vote for ship.

Also, the persona list and Kirika's powers are gonna get pretty long, so you should consider making tabs or something to put it in less space and make it more readable. The text kind of blurs together when there are so many consecutive lines.

Given that we might make another wish in a different timeline, we should probably just pick one that works for Yui right now. Well, and it should be consistent with her character.
Yui is a rather shy person, and we probably shouldn't give her the role of attacker, at least this time. I think that the role of healer and support would suit her better, especially considering Kirika's ability to instantly teleport to Yui.

[X] Wherever and whenever it happens, when people who are important to me need support or help, I want to know about it in advance so that I can be there and be able to provide it to them.

Edited the old version slightly to reflect that this is something between foresight and super intuition, not teleportation. It should help us prevent bad events from happening and will probably speed up our link progress.
The helping part is mainly about healing.
As far as support goes ... I'm thinking of something similar to the simple Reinforcement from Nasuverse, applied on others. As an opportunity to speed up our ally in a battle with an enemy that is too fast, increase damage against really tough opponents, etc.

@AllyDJ , are this wording and wish itself okay?

Sacrifices
Kanae Okamoto was a busy woman.

Any of her coworkers could tell you that.

Until a year ago, the CFO spent every moment not dedicated to sustaining biological needs on working, with two notable exceptions.

She always spared time for her husband and her daughter. But the canny, those that considered themselves close, could always see that the guilt eat away at her even then. She had lived engrossed in her work, and when she got married and then had a child it created a divide.

She had never cared about someone before her husband. She had thought herself incapable of it-professionals that she had spoken to had agreed. But Peter had done the impossible. Made a cold heart warm over. She wasn't sure why, but the professionals were spoken to again, and they said that it was likely due to a strangled ability to connect to others, which led to the impression of being unable to empathize.

It made sense.

She had never been good with people. She could speak to them perfectly well, attack with logic. But emotionally, she'd never really brought herself to actually care. It simply didn't matter to her their circumstances. There wasn't any disdain for them, just apathy.

But when she had her daughter, it happened again. She cared. She cared very deeply about the child she had birthed.

This drove her to want to ensure that Yui would never end up like she did. She liked the two people she cared about. It would be worth anything to make sure her daughter had the ability to do this more than her, even if it meant getting hurt by those like her.

A talk with Peter, and the man did his best. But for all of his trying, Yui never really seemed interested in people. She seemed to take after her mother..

..and that terrified her mother, and made her guilty. Because maybe if her mother wasn't so busy, she'd be more engaged in other people.

Maybe if her mother was more affectionate, she'd be more engaged in other people.

So many maybes.

And then Peter died, and Kanae's world fell apart.

She couldn't bear to look at his old things, and boxed up the ones that Yui had never known about. Then it became those, too, because it was a pain unlike anything else to see them. She threw herself into her work, because she could forget the absence that Peter had filled if she was too tired to think about anything other than food or sleep.

But most of all, the thing she hated herself most for, was that every moment she saw her daughter it filled her with two opposing feelings. It reminded her of what she'd lost, but also of the child she loved-or at least, she thought she loved. The pain of hearing her voice and seeing her face always outweighed the joy. Reminded her of the man that should be here with them.

It was something she couldn't handle. She was certain, dead certain of one simple fact:

Yui would be better off without her. She needed to get the girl away from her, so that she could spread her wings and fly in an environment that wasn't home.

So she called an old friend, for a certain value of the word, and asked a favor. She could pay for it, would Hinako take care of Yui?

The woman had accidentally alienated her own daughter. It was trivial to convince her to take on Yui. Play the strings of want, give her a new daughter. It would let Hinako feel better, and Yui would have somebody to connect with. It might repair the bridges between her friend and her daughter.

And Yui would be better off without Kanae in her life. A distant benefactor at best.

It was for the best, even though it clearly made the problems Yui was having with her grief and social ostracization worse.

That was what Kanae Okamoto felt.

It was the excuse she made, so she could bury herself in her work entirely.

Maybe she'd never cared about anyone other than Peter after all. Maybe she'd just convinced herself, or Yui had simply only mattered as something that was directly related to her relationship with her husband.

She wasn't sure.

Then, of course, somebody other than Hinako or Yui called her personal phone.

"Hello?"

"Would you be the mother of Okamoto Yui?"

"Yes. Has she caused trouble?"

"No. But I have a very long talk to have with you..."

If we're going for a support style this loop I feel that we should go for barriers as they are more proactive, we might be able to trap witches with them
and we could theoretically equip them to Kirika cause she's a mellee fighter,
[]I wish to be able to create barriers so that I can protect my friends
I've been rethinking the wording of the wish for about an hour now and I still don't like it so if anyone could help that'd be nice.

I like this wish more:
[X] I wish to be able to provide whatever my friends and family might need. Be it shelter, transport, safety, rest and restoration, resources. They support me so I want to be able to support them!

I like this wish. Was just gonna write up a generic wish to be able to protect our friends, but this one works really well.

Also, say... will our Potential go up the way Madoka's and Sayaka's did every loop? :D

Just binged through the quest and am really enjoying it!

I want to try and collect some of my thoughts, theories, and such as I read though. Some of it might be obvious stuff though. More of it might be completely detached from reality. :V

Contracts
It's moot as of now, but I'm pretty sure Yui had been causing Igor and the Velvet Room a ton of... grief :V Yui may be a Wild Card but the Velvet Room's rules still prevent them from giving direct aid to a prospective guest until they sign a contract. I'm sure the first draft of the quest had contracting with Kyubey to become a magical girl as that contract but no plan survives first contact with the enemy SV and so we kept dodging it. Invisitext in the first offer implies that there was at least one backup plan for a sufficient contract to count for Velvet Room purposes and I'm a bit curious what that might have been. Or if we really could have played on Merciless and took on the quest without Velvet Room support. Or if Philemon would drop into another dream of ours and be less subtle next time. Having signed a literal contract though I suspect we'll get our for real Velvet Room intro soon.

Social Links
Magician is our Velvet Room attendant who I suspect we'll be meeting soon.
Temperance is clearly Yui's mom.
Judgment has been discussed but I mean.. it has to be Walpurgisnacht, right? I feel like Kyubey's contract text hints that it might be the "Magical Girl at the forefront of the gestalt" though how we communicate with her, I'm not sure. If QB were aware of Homura's loops I'd suggest he's being particularly sly here and that the notation that said MG is a later addition to Walpurgisnacht means she's not actually witched out/absorbed yet and that's the key... but I don't believe he is. (Unless my crazy theories later in this post have some things right... in which case... doors are opened.)

I'm on to you Kyubey
This guy. This guy right here. My eyebrows basically shot off my head when I read this.

It had a plan. It didn't matter if it alienated the anomaly, as long as it was capable of observing the union of The Enemy's system with The Master's.
So this appears to be Kyubey's angle here. He wants to see how the Puella Magi system interacts with Persona, I mean his contract suggests as much too and he hasn't been shy about expressing his interest in experimenting but this word choice. One would assume "The Master"'s system refers to the Puella Magi system since that's the system Kyubey is aligned with. Consequently, "The Enemy"'s system is Persona. Whose system is that though? Philemon. So who is Philemon's enemy?

Are the Incubators working for/with Nyarlathotep?

The only catch that keeps getting me is that given the whole "emotions are insanity" thing with the Incubators it would seem odd for them to be working for him. Or perhaps the idea is that Nyarlathotep came up with the Puella Magi system and the Incubators determined it was the most efficient way to combat entropy so they just rolled with it. Either way, I see you QB.

Echoes of the Dark Hour?
and then everything goes to hell all at once as you feel a nauseating churning in your gut as the sun seems to disappear, replaced with a sickly green moon
That shadow ambush sure seemed reminiscent of the Dark Hour with the imagery. I mean, obviously the time wasn't right at all but it very much seems something like the Dark Hour was imposed over reality right there. Somewhere in Tatsumi Port Island someone is internally screaming if that was detectable.

The Timeline aka Why is Devil Homura in our soul?
So when are we exactly? At first I thought we were just some unspecified point pre-Oriko given that Homura didn't go into PTSD when she first saw Kirika just hanging out with Madoka... but then Yui "summoned" Devil Homura and my brain hard crashed. Like... that doesn't work unless we're post-Rebellion, right? So why are we back in the Walpurgisnacht loops? As far as I can tell from the evidence before us: Rebellion happened, Homura doesn't remember it (and is infact viscerally repulsed by the echo of Devil Homura channeled through Yui), and the Incubator system is back. Together those are kind of hard to reconcile. My best shot at a theory after my brain rebooted is probably absolute nonsense but is something along the lines of: Godoka got through to Devil Homura somehow and convinced her that there existed a better solution than either of them came up with if only she'd let them try and so we find ourselves back in the loops with neither party enforcing their alterations to reality with Yui representing the opportunity to reach that goal (with at least the previous loop being the prep work since Yui appears to be the result of the previous loop's Madoka's wish. I'm not suggesting Madoka made that wish with all that knowledge - though she could have - for all we know this is a chance that arose after countless more loops.) Devil Homura, in this theory's construction is obviously aware of the game and is rooting for Madoka's success against her and that's why she gives Homura words of encouragement before peaceing out. It's got tons of holes though, I know. ...We really need to find out what happened in the past few loops.

Since it's out of the picture, at this point, due to the Velvet Room existing outside of such banal and base concepts as 'time', 'space', and 'causality', the backup answer was a slight tweak to a social link that's gonna pop up in...uh, actually it depends on a choice you make soon-ish. Depend on if you take a choice that could lead to either finding out who Death or Justice/Temperance are. Who is not Yui's mother, but there is another mother who has been compared to her, albeit as a better example of similar circumstances.

That's not to say Yui's mother isn't a social link, or that she's not important to the story.

But, you might say that their relationship is rather broken, right now.

Always a good sign when you toss a bunch of theories out and then whiff on the one you mention almost in throwaway fashion as a sign of confidence! :V

That was the one I felt like confirming :p You're on to something with some of 'em, though I won't confirm which.

Other wish feels like it would overlap with Oriko too hard.

Oh right, the wish. Yeah the first one definitely sounds like pre-cog. While I like the idea and would absolutely be down for exploring such a wish in a later loop it does seem to overlap a bit with Oriko there and part of the reason I like the idea is kind of to scout and gather information for future loop purposes. That's not the kind of motive I think I can sell IC on a first loop though since it sort of presupposes failure and writing off a loop as recon. Once Yui realizes she's a passenger on the timeloops though...

Also all the battleship talk has me envisioning this as the battleship option even though I feel this wording could easily manifest as a factory or even a kind of extra-dimensional Inn instead.

Pretty sure the vote was called already, guys

Friday March 18th, Timeline 1/???: Creation
For a moment, you come to a decision, certain of what you want to Wish for. But after a moment, you reconsider because of a vague feeling that your original wish would have ended in a strange way.

"Kyubey." You say levelly, and it tilts it's head. "I Wish to be able to support my friends and family. Be it shelter, transportation, rest or resources! Anything they need, I want to be able to provide!" With that, you feel a tugging on the core of your being, even as Kyubey's ears extend out towards your chest.

Something begins to crystalize as you feel the breath pull itself from your lungs, your being aching with pain for an instant that seems like an eternity as light shines through the junkyard, a kaleidoscopic prismatic spray of colors.

Staring into that light, you see potential.

You see so many futures, some where you continue walking on without your friends, some where you revolutionize some part of the world, some where you're just a regular girl.

They condense into a simple gem, and you wonder now how exactly Kyubey found this. That was not included, in his infodump.

But as the light dies down, you raise your hands to cup the gem that formed. It's not like Homura's, or Oriko's, or Kirika's. Sitting in your hands it has a top that doesn't look like the rest-it seems to wear a fool's cap, and the intricate designs on the metal have etched in them the roman numerals, with tiny gems coloring them in. Sitting in the largest gem is an overlapping 0 and 22, in such a way that hurts your brain to try and rationalize-they are inseperable, one and the same.

Then, you notice.

You feel a sort of pressure in the back of your head, and you frown, before you feel it disappear.

And like a bulging sack, you feel information tumble out, and you simply know what you can do. But you refocus on Sayaka before you dive into the mystery, and you aren't too late to hear her wish.

She opens her mouth to speak, "I Wish that I could be useful to Homura, and the rest of my friends!" You almost want to groan, instinctively, because that wish is horribly open ended. And then you double take, because Homura and Sayaka have to have talked more because Homura looks not at all surprised by this.

But as her newly formed soul gem settles in her hands, Sayaka gasps. "Whoa. Whoa. Oh, that's weeeeeird. Hey, Yui, why are you-wait, you disappeared-what?" She whips around to look at you, and you blink, before your eyes widen.

"...did you get short term combat useful precognition?" You feel almost upset at how useful that would be. Homura seems suddenly interested, and Madoka seems to be thoughtful. Kirika is...

Kirika is beaming at you, and you blush and look away.

"Um, yeah. Sorry, um, all of you, I'm trying to figure out how to turn it off, so if you guys could not talk for a bit? I'm hearing you in future present senses separately simultaneously. Oh, that is strange." Sayaka is silently concentrating for about 30 seconds, before she pumps a fist in triumph. "Okay! Now I'm not gonna hear your question before you even say them. To reiterate, it is strange to have separate tracks for seeing, hearing, smelling, and feeling into the future. It's like I have a whole new set of senses that only work with the future sense." You turn inwards to try and figure things out as Kirika and Madoka begin to ask questions and Homura occasionally buts in.

You...the core of your power is the ability to create. You know that much. Currently, there are three things that are 'prebuilt', for lack of a better word, into it. One is a sort of fort you can conjure for shelter. You know, somehow, that it would enter you into a battle of wills of sort with the Witch if done in a barrier. The other is for aiding your magical girl allies in combat and...it's also transport. You can't help but grin as you consider that it isn't exactly what you wanted, but it is cool. And the last one is...

Huh. You're not sure. Unlike the others, you just have a vague sense of the 'what'. It's a doorway. "Um...I'm gonna try something with my power, around the corner." The other nod as Sayaka is testing the limits of her ability, and you move around the corner and focus on that 'doorway'.

And a velvet door appears in front of you, a blue butterfly flying out of a crack before it shuts and locks. You get the feeling that the time to enter is later, but that this is a door to the Velvet Room.

You move back to the group, detransforming, and they turn on you. "Soooooo, Yui, what's yours?" Sayaka turns to you, before grinning. "Oooh, very nice." She howls with laughter as everyone else gives her a slightly dirty look, and after it subsides she wipes a tear from her eye. "Okay, okay. I'll stop using it to troll, now."

You pout, but look to the others. "My power is to create constructs. Currently I have a fortress, a surprise, and something that's neat but kinda useless. Summons a velvet colored door." You'll broach the topic of the velvet room at a later date. "I'm certain that I can develop more with some effort, too. So...infinitely expandable power?" You grin as Sayaka excitedly congratulates you, Homura simply nods.

And Kirika cannonballs into you, knocking you over in a hug. "That's great!" She beams at you. "We have similarly versatile powers. Like we're soulmates or somethin'." Then Kirika blinks, blushes, and looks away abashedly. You can't really look away, because Kirika's got you pinned to the ground with her hug, but you could probably act as a lighthouse right now.

"Gasp! Madoka, my waifu, avert your eyes!" Sayaka says theatrically, to giggles from Madoka as Sayaka solemnly covers the girls' eyes with her hands.

Homura...isn't even paying attention to you, her brow is furrowed at Sayaka with something you think is faint jealousy? You're unsure.

"I hate to break up the celebration, but there is a Witch not far from here. Perhaps we could hunt it, and provide a first hand glimpse as to the powers in action?" Kyubey pipes up. "As it would also count as experimentation with Yui's powerset intersection, and costs and harm would be covered as per our agreement."

You blink, looking at the other magical girls.

"She deserves to rest as soon as possible." Sayaka says in a sombre tone.

"If Yui wants to." Kirika unentangles from you and is bouncing on her feet, and you frown as you realize that she wants to go fight the Witch, but she's deferring to you.

"It's too dangerous. Half the group is new, and Kure is barely any better, though she fights well." Homura's opinion has weight, as the veteran. "I can handle it myself." She pulls her hand back and runs it through her hair, and you feel a little vindicated as the entire group stares at her rippling raven hair.

Madoka looks at her twintails before getting thoughtful.

It seems like you'll be the swing vote either way.

[] Hunt the witch.
[] Let Homura handle it.

----------------------
You are all absolutely right. The reading I get of that first wish is precog. I should've checked the wording more closely, but thankfully there are technically more votes for this anyways, otherwise we would've had a bit of a hiccup as you and Sayaka get basically the same powers, because long term precog is on the no-no list...partially because writing it would be a pain, partially because it's just really strong and falls into that 'story breaker' list in a few ways.

[X] Hunt the witch.

I feel fairly confident that anyone hunting witches by themselves is a no go.

Plus Kyubey said the costs would be covered so everyone can go all out with their powers. We have 2 new and 1 sorta new magical girls. The ability to cut loose and see what we can do is great.

I'm definitely curious about the fort and combat of wills with the witch. Definitely need to try that since we have backup.

The only way to improve the situation would be to grab Mami first but I imagine that's not feasible.

Poor Sayaka. It seems like a cool and useful power but that sounds like a pain to get used to. Still, if we were going to step on a minefield or accidentally cause a disaster she might be able to stop us. Maybe?

[X] Hunt the witch.

While I'm generally inclined to defer to Homura, I think this is the right call. Kyubey being the one suggesting this works in its favor which may be the first time that's ever been true. It doesn't appear to make any sense for it to go to all the trouble to get a contract just to walk everyone into something they can't handle, it's just counter-productive to observing the interaction of Yui's powers. And I mean, we are new but that's going to be true until we eventually fight sometime and this appears to be pretty close to a controlled situation as opposed to having to react to an unexpected Witch. If we're lucky Mami might even show up to respond to it as well but I'm not counting on it.
