I'm in favour of conserving our qi. I highly doubt there won't be a dueling section of the test later.

Won't matter if we flunk this part though...but theres the option to spend half our pool, we got 16 qi and remember:
- First Stage Reached: 1 Qi. Difficulty 1. Does 2 (1 Phys/1 Stun) damage on a successful dodge and WIL+CL v. Difficulty roll. Multiple uses in succession (3x) causes a malus against the opponent.

You need 3 hits with Levin Step to actually see more than 2 damage, and even as we are we can take 18 hits.
So theres chaining Levin counters until they are debuffed and then punching the rest of the way.

I'm thinking we want a write-in here...

[ ] Supportive. This is a simulation of combat against true enemies of the Empire. On the battlefield you must put aside any petty grudges and rivalries to work with your allies. Hua Yin is not the strongest fighter in the group, but he is no longer weak. He will endeavor to give his support to his team and work together, ensuring that troublesome foes fall more quickly and allies in trouble are not taken down. Rally those that have frozen in fear so that they too work with the group.

Might mean we end up helping Mo Xiang, but it doesn't matter. If these were actual barbarians at the gates, the people we're responsible for protecting would not care for us to spite him.

For Qi usage...

[ ] Activate the Earth-Defying Path, to better traverse the field and support your allies. Use the Levin Step against tough opponents only where an edge is determined to be necessary.

If there are any weak foes, we need not use Qi, and should conserve it. But we will want to use our movement tech because it's useful and will be impressive.

This is probably the smartest thing to do.

And it'll show we're a better person than Mo Xiang if we put aside our feelings and work with him. It all works out in the end :D

Hmm

[] gather up the ones eho have frozen and ming xue into a defensive group. focus on the soldier who has locked onto you in the group. Defeat him as quickly as possible and then move to help others in your group who are struggling. You are facing this as a team after all.

[] use qi agressively until you beat the soldier who has locked onto you help others with only your martial arts to conserve qi

Hmm, this works I think:

[ ] Measured Qi use. Ration half your qi pool for this fight, use Levin Step until you have applied the successive hits malus on a given opponent, then fight normally against that foe.

One person charging forward is a fool. A group of people charging forward is a strategy. Leading the others on a charge is a valid move, and shows us covering for others mistakes

[] Aggressive. Hua Yin will charge forward to the attack. He will have momentum for his first strike.

[] Write-in - Passively, but with EDS active. Hua Yin will use the Step when he is in trouble or about to finish off a foe, but use EDS first.

Honestly, I don't wanna show off that we have two Qi techs until we have to. EDP lasts a whole hour. Wayyyy more efficient.

We still have 10 minutes left on the moratorium.

I think we should take a more aggressive strategy here, but by that I mean taking into account that we are a dodgy fighter.
Our skill is in not being hit, so we can take the front and try to create openings for others to take advantage of.

As for Qi usage, I'd go with Passive. We can't do a huge amount with our Qi. It is really about opportunistically countering. Keep usage low in case we need to pull off some high jumping.

I'm thinking like

[] try to rally the other test takers into following the charge to form a defensive formation at their flanks and rear. The better they can do, the better the group can do.

Also, I was thinking, if we can't do calligraphy brush combat, a naginata would be a good weapon. With our gravity art we should be mobile enough to control range and the wise man keeps danger distant if we can. A stick based weapon is also good for super vaulting. With less gravity, we have less traction or falling weight for spear thrusts, so having a slicing and cutting option may help. Also, historically there were lots of pole arms, but I rarely see them being picked.

EDP isn't as useful here I think, because we're fighting in a group, and so the 3d maneuvering is far less important than debuffing the big chonky barbarian so that the mortals can rip him apart like piranha.

EDP is ridiculous in a duel if the opponent has no ranged moves.

Being careful with our qi in order to show the instructors that we are considerate of our endurance is good. Hiding the fact that we have qi techniques is not good.

We need to keep in mind that we weren't told how many waves there would be. It could be 3 it could be 10. Best to not blow our load straight out of the gate.

You know how in Dynasty Warriors, you can end up just chaining endless in-air combos and basically just float above the battlefield, striking everyone around you and below you with a spear?

We should do that, in the long term.

Also, three drums, three observers/controllers above. I'd bet on three waves, but it's hard to say. Either way, I'd use EDP first, since it's a hour-long technique.

The best way to lead is to lead by example. Once there's enough people charging, the others follow with the crowd to avoid being alone.
