2 possible successes > 1 guaranteed success
1 guaranteed success > 2 possible failures

[X] Breath of the Storm: An introductory cultivation technique requiring deep breathing similar to the howl of air in a storm. At first level, trade 2 cultivation dice for 1 guaranteed cultivation training success.

[X] Run to the rescue. Song Chyou might not be one of Hua Yin's good friends, but she was good people and the spirit-blooded boy had obviously done something to her.

The numbers favor MV apparently.

So, for numbers:

Each die has a 1/3 chance of being a success. It's actually worth a little more than a third, because it also has a chance of exploding into another success, which could explode into another, and so on, but we can call it 1/3 for simplicity.

So Midnight Visitation straight up adds 2/3 of a success on an average roll.

Breath of the Storm subtracts 2/3 of a success, then adds a success, for a net of 1/3 on an average roll.

So Midnight Visitation is definitely stronger at level 1, but only modestly so.

Let me try to make that Write-in.

[X] Walk to the rescue. Something has obviously happened, but you don't know what yet. Greet the both of them and inquire as to the situation here.

Anyone got any tweaks or better ideas?

[X] The Midnight Visitation: An introductory cultivation technique that focuses on soaking on re-cycling Qi in the air to get the maximum amount of benefit out of the minimum amount of Qi. At first level, reroll 2 dice on a cultivation roll.

Midnight Visitation feels like it might level up to either a Celestial or Star technique. Maximum absorption seems fitting for the more wispy ephemeral elements.

The two cultivation techniques are basically equal numbers-wise, except for edge cases. Midnight Visitation has slightly higher potential due to exploding dice. Breath of the Storm is more consistent.
They are also still introductory ones, so it isn't too big a deal long term.

Midnight Visitation suggests it is related to Stars or something similar.
Breath of the Storm is obviously Storm related.
I don't have any specific preference.

As for Song Chyou: I suspect she just tried to ask him out...

The math convinced me.

Surely our luck has to turn at some point? Maybe our dice will explode us to peak Initiate next turn :')

On to math:

So Midnight Visitation is definitely stronger at level 1, but only modestly so.

The average die (including explosions) is 2/5 success. So Midnight Visitation is significantly better on average at +4/5, but Breath of the Storm makes our rolls significantly less swingy with an average of +1/5 but a guaranteed success.

A weaker start makes me hopeful of better growth, though of interest is the two techniques not stacking well as they improve, as fixed dice don't reroll. Both effects are capped by our cultivation dice pool.

I'll take the weaker one as it looks like it synergizes with our newer Font (and potentially the Levin Step as well).

Breath I feel like is a little better mechanically, but we roll enough dice that reroll 2 might as well be roll 2 more dice. I like the description of Visitation better also, Recycle Reduce Reuse, can close the loop.

I don't know if I need a write in to clarify but I would like to see if Song is okay without assuming guilt on the boy's part. It looks like a misunderstanding of some sort from what we have seen so far, and I am afraid the default assumes too much.
