Animus Ex Nihilo - A God Quest

I mostly wanted a humanoid form because of Azel's comments about how if we shepherd and protect mortals enough we'll end up with a more mortal outlook anyhow. I feel like Proud Waters would want a form that lets them safely interact with their people without having to do the whole "BE NOT AFRAID" schtick every time they wanted to talk to someone :V

I for one would be perfectly fine with doing the "be not afraid" routine every time. Eldritch deities are fun.

[X] Yes. Claim a form for yourself and show it to the people.
-[X] One of the People, of indeterminable gender, with hair like kelp and eyes like pearls, with skin of an ocean blue hue, possessing a stern, proud, but kindly presentation.

If we are not truly alien to our people, why should we pretend to be something eldritch?

[X] Yes. Claim a form for yourself and show it to the people.
-[X] A whirlpool, dragging evil like the Devourer to the seafloor where they are transformed into vibrant sea life.
-[X] A muscular man with blue hair and green eyes whose hands were tattooed with triskeles on their back.

*grumbles* wanted Goddess but hopefully the extreme androgyny makes them go goddess anyways!

See, this is what Heralds are for.

Look at our little carpboy, who could be afraid of a fish the size of a house saying hello?

Could turn one of our human worshippers into a Divine Servant.
We couldn't. Our only targets were local sea life.

Now, that might've changed now that we have the Healing Domain, but at the same time the Create Divine Servant action wasn't even available last turn, so who knows when or how we get to perform it again.

Technically we only unlocked it, but have not acquired it.

@Azel Because we're basically going back and forth between a humanoid form which probably actually changes every time we appear, and a whirlpool...

Could we actually end up something like our true form is the 'Waters' which make us up? Said waters being molded into one of the People when they wish to walk amongst the People, yet fighting or anger sees the mold shattered as the water flows forth to become a whirlpool sucking their foe into the depths of their power?

Because I'm pretty sure our People know of pottery and other ceramics, as well as waterskins. All of which can contain water... But also things which are likely to break or be torn, which has the water that filled them and gave them a solid form pour out. Might mean that our worshipers get the idea we create a skin and fill it when we stride in humanoid form amongst, them, but that's not the worst concept to be given.

It also means we're likely to end up with an association to shapeshifters, which we kind of already do have thanks to the currently winning humanoid form being indeterminate like that. Might allow our Divine Servants to be able to shift between a human and their natural form as well... Not to mention further tying into the Creatures Domain people are hoping for, which could be combined with Healing to gain Life.

We'd be less 'divine healer' than 'flesh sculptor', but I can't say I dislike that idea. Proooobably would want to avoid forms with tentacles however.

People really seem to want the death domain, but i like the idea of Water and healing. Two things mankind will always need and hopefully things we will always provide. Perhaps even branching out into protection, cultivation and civilization.
I know i am late but i still think i should bring this option to the table:

[X] Yes. Claim a form for yourself and show it to the people
-[X] I think we should be flexible like water itself. As water can turn to steam or ice, as the sea can be calm or stormy so should we be able to change from to match.

I would be fine with that. Trying to make our people as prosperous and powerful as they can be. Once the time comes that Champions and Heroes will walk the land and humanity realizes thier true potetial only the gods that cared for them will be cared for in return.

I really like the idea of just having Proud Waters be some kind of "natural" phenomenon that people are worshipping. I am not sure a whirlpool is the best fit for that, considering that to humans at this point whirlpools are large, destructive forces that protect no one and cannot be bargained with, but I have no idea what other shape would be better and I will admit the image of our people worshipping a giant healing whirlpool is amazing.

My thoughts there were that offerings can be easily given to a whirlpool, and the things that it displaces could be symbolic of the blessings thrown about in return. They could fill canoes with offers, the dead, or that which they fear is evil and send it on into the whirlpool for 'judgement'.

The Proud Waters take in the darkness of the world, the deceased, the offerings of it's followers, and all foolish enough to challenge it… and turns it all into nature's bounty and healing for its followers. Or, at least that was the symbolic angle I was shooting for.

The idea of being literally bargained with feels more like the stuff of demons than a god, you don't haggle with a god. You might get a reward for your faith, you might not, but the reward isn't necessarily the point.

I totally agree with the formless people in regards to the unknowable quality we have right now being super powerful psychologically. In comparison… a human form just seems lame to me, cliche even. The water serpent seems cool and mysterious at least, and some of the other animalistic ones lean more towards tribalism and shamanism which is neat… but I just can't get behind the human ones. I'd honestly rather vote no to having a form in that case.

I can see the argument that it makes us more relatable, and that would likely be true, but is relatability really better for a god than mystery or wonder? I don't think so.

Also, you can call me slow if you want, but I only just realised that we're currently playing through The Sea People's version of Chaoskampf.

... Actually, I think that this is the first God Quest I can think of that actually features a Chaoskampf-analogue. Which is kinda impressive considering just how ubiquitous that piece of symbolism is in various mythologies.

And that's why we should go hunt the death beast. Complete the myth and all that.

Wonder if we could poke our followers for extra power, like 'something big is going to happen, I require more/greater offerings'. Could be usefull if we are planning to do something dangerous.

Huh, I guess you could call it that.

For these people this bay and river is the world. And the creature of hunger will literally destroy it all in time, if we don't stop it.

I can totally see that becoming a much more global story in later legends told about it.
Assuming we win and there will be later generations to tell legends of course.

I think there is power in having a physical representation, though we are the waters I think we should be able to shift to some degree, but remaining formless when other spirits take physical shape is likely to make us in both the short-term and long-term less obviously there, our gifts more debatable than the gods and spirits that are showing themselves, how quickly the formed Devourer captured the minds of our worshipers. And personally our people are going to depict us as something ultimately anyway, even if we did choose to remain formless, so I'd just rather we have some say in our features.

I think the whirlpool is neat, and I do like the idea that maybe our symbols involve whirlpools/swirls, but it's quite subtle and is certainly playing more along the formless lines while giving us a shape.

I mean I'm very much pro-my own water serpent, sort of Naga form, I think it clearly keeps our elemental nature, and doesn't make us all too human, and I think the art of a spire of water twisting from the ocean against the Devourer would be cool.

Finally, I do like the kelp hair, pearl eyes, blue humanoid of many faces, though it plays strongly into my wishes towards more indeterminate gods, with shapechanging capabilities. I like the bits of consistency, but it ultimately is the most humanoid of the bunch in the running, its my favorite path for a humanoid form, but well I'm more partial to being less humanoid overall.

[X] Yes. Claim a form for yourself and show it to the people.
-[X] A great serpent rising from the ocean, their form composed of clear water housing sea life within, many arms sprouting forth, ever flowing, sometimes with the face of a woman and other times with that of a man, their hair composed of the sea spray, with pearl jewelry adorned into a filigree headdress.

[X] No. You will stay unseen and formless.

I don't want to lock us into being something this early. Let's wait for a more opportune moment.

Well we will certainly be quite a looker. For one i believe hermaphrodites will be quite appreciated in our religion.
