Suffer Not the Witch (Warhammer 40k Psyker Quest)

[X] Refuse the Pact. Angel though he may be, beautiful and strong, Ciro remains unworthy of your sword.
- [X] You called me a free man earlier, I wish to remain so, which sadly excludes the possibility of binding myself to you.

To be clear the "Might as well explain yourself" vote is fine. It's perfectly valid. I'm not criticising the vote, I'm just noting as written people are opting to lay out their grievances and then cede the initiative etc back to Ciro, without taking further action wrt him or any of your other allies.

I'm not clear on things, but how would we not cede the initiative to Ciro? If the writ in is to explain, that inevitably gives Ciro room to rebutt.

Just off the top of my head, going to warn the Carrion Queen that Ciro made a deal with the daemon would be an option. Albeit one that risks starting a fight with Ciro and might not be necessary if your argument about trustworthiness actually convinces him.

[X] Swear Fealty. For a year and a day you will serve Ciro as his sworn sword, trading loyalty for a daemon's life and taking comfort in the familiarity of an old role and the shelter of an angel's wing.
-[X] "Tell me the story of how an angel fell and in doing so flew freer than before, I will tell you of myself as well for a blade must know the hand that wields it as the hand knows the blade."

Anything like that involves going against a space marine without the protection of a metal box. Sucks to be the carrion queen, but life sucks sometimes. I don't particularly feel safe sticking out neck out for a tribe of survivors, sorry.

Nice to see discussion is still happening.

Well the author raises a valid point. I'm just not sure what we could add to my write-in. I still can't think of better dialogue, but if anyone has ideas for talking to one of our allies or… I can't think of anything but yeah. I'm totally willing to add that to my vote, though I don't know how many people would adopt it, especially since any other action might not be supported by those who have already voted.

One suggestion I have is talking to the eldar, or the magos, those two seem most likely to not exactly appreciate the whole daemon deal. Or at least realize that daemon equals 'murder death kill'

Yeah, talk to the other people and change the course of the ship. Do not stay in the Vortex. I suppose you could tell him you would rather seek counsel with the others before deciding as a group.

- [X] You figure you might as well explain why.
"You offer me a deal, and in that dealing break another. I shed no tears for the betrayal and slaying of a daemon, yet it is still so. Besides, even if you killed it, it doesn't change a thing. That you make a deal with me does not change the fact that you made a deal with it. Further, your deal with it was a betrayal of these savage folk who have helped us in our time of need. Your capacity for betrayal is impressive, for an angel of Him."

My first thought was immediately to refuse. I mean we don't gain anything really other than Ciro doing something he really should be doing anyway. On top of that he just in the very conversation where he tried to recruit us admitted to two different betrayals he has in the works (the one against the daemon the other against the Carrion). This is not a guy you want to work with.

But then after read the comments I had a second thought. We do want the backup that Ciro and the others provides and also want the daemon gone. By saying we're on board we can get those benefits, but in fact be willing to screw him over at the first opportunity. Dealing with a treacherous ally can be a dangerous thing and no one wants to deal with a traitor, so it might be better to leave our own reputation intact by staying away.

- [] Plan to betray him.

Temp - Vote Called
OK I'll call the vote here, looks like you're refusing to swear yourself to Ciro's service, with a popular subvote explaining that its mostly because you're not down with all the treachery.

Which subvote ended up winning? The tally only gives two to the one that seemed most popular, which seems incorrect

The "You figure you might as well explain why" vote is the same, the one that has 23 votes just for that phrase. It's just that the rest of the write-in was put on another line so the tally program didn't pick it up.

It is, for reference, this one from @Scribin

I'm suspecting Ciro exists in a sort of grey area between an imperial and chaos marine. There must be rogue astartes warbands around that don't quite offer their services to the Ruinous Powers.

That said, we shouldn't swear loyalty to him, especially since we could have much to gain from fraternizing with the other party members.
There absolutely are, the characrodons need people to trade with and the Ashen Claws are probably the most well known example though I sincerely dout ciro is one of them, his manner of speech feels too off. That and I don't think we are in their territory?

Given that we're near the Maelstrom, I'm betting he's from one of the chapters that fought against the Imperium in the Badab War, ie. the Red Corsairs origin story.

I always thought the Red Corsairs were pretty chaos-y though? They wouldn't count I do not think, though we are likely to see them.

...I'm pretty sure given the code words he said when waking up that he's Alpha Legion, or at least Alpha influenced or adjacent. Probably not a thing that matters a whole lot, and obviously Vincenzo doesn't have a clue either way.
