Suffer Not the Witch (Warhammer 40k Psyker Quest)

Kinda weirded out that we're voting for fealty since I don't think a single person trusts this guy, but maybe I'm just stupid.

[X] Refuse the Pact. Angel though he may be, beautiful and strong, Ciro remains unworthy of your sword.
- [X] You figure you might as well explain why.
"You offer me a deal, and in that dealing break another. I shed no tears for the betrayal and slaying of a daemon, yet it is still so. Besides, even if you killed it, it doesn't change a thing. That you make a deal with me does not change the fact that you made a deal with it. Further, your deal with it was a betrayal of these savage folk who have helped us in our time of need. Your capacity for betrayal is impressive, for an angel of Him."

Okay I kinda hate this dialogue but I can't do better in the next fifteen minutes so this is what I got. Basically I'm just kinda confused on why Ciro thinks this would change anything, and why we're suddenly okay with fealty.
I like it and agree that we can't truly trust in anything beyond his ability to murder and deceive, however, is amazing prowess in the murder department, plus the rest of the crew not solidly being on board with usurping him strongly make me question if we can survive doing this.

I swear on my most beloved keys, I am not hesitant because of his charisma. I mean is not the chance decent that if we refuse he attempts to off us as soon as he feels he could with the highest confidence instead of giving us another year too plot?

Honestly a daemon's life for loyalty is kind of a bad deal. And honestly daemons aren't our problem here. Getting allies and not making enemies is. Considering that Ciro is taking the position of a leader and was captured stalling time for his brothers..

-[X] Ciro's loyalty, as much due to us as us to him.

I'm suspecting Ciro exists in a sort of grey area between an imperial and chaos marine. There must be rogue astartes warbands around that don't quite offer their services to the Ruinous Powers.

That said, we shouldn't swear loyalty to him, especially since we could have much to gain from fraternizing with the other party members.

I feel we shouldn't antagonize Ciro so much. Among other things, he's the superhuman demigod that is a killing machine, and if he decides it's in his best interests for us to die, we're kind of screwed.

Even if we part ways for some reason, we actually do need allies to survive as a renegade. Even given that he has his own agenda, a superhuman demigod is rather useful to surviving, which is why we let him out of that casket to begin with.

Well, the popularity of Refuse baffles *me* instead.

I get it, Ciro isn´t really trustworthy at all, but are you guys really willing to let a DAEMON stay in the game? Sure, our Astartes "friend" might not keep his word to us to kill the Demon, but he might just as well do keep his word - if we refuse, he *Definitely* won´t kill the Demon and we are fucked in the long run.

So yeah, allowing that guy to become our Master stinks, but that Demon remaining active is *Far worse* in the long run.

As for the Carrion Queen, if Ciro keeps his word, the Demon dies and she remains safe-ish for now - if Ciro doesn´t keep his word, we just cook up a way to warn her that doesn´t violate our servitude to Ciro...simple as that

[X] Swear Fealty
If we want the demon dead, the solution is to go and kill it ourselves, alternatively gathering some of the others as allies. Ciro has revealed to us that it's host is weak, we don't need it anymore, so it's as good a time as any. A spacemarine is good at killing stuff, but he's hardly the only one who can do it.

In a year of service to Ciro, we're certain to summon and work for several deamon, the way he is going.

Already, he's not just working with demons but willing to perform human sacrifice to them.

In the grim quest of the far future, there is only refusing the advances of Ciro

I don't care what we do as long as we don't form a pact. Ciro is an abuser, pure and simple. He doesn't care about promises or words and will bend us degree by degree until we are the shape he wants us, then throw us away when we aren't useful any more. He is slimy and manipulative and he needs to be out of our life as soon as possible.

OK, so far it looks like Refuse is winning by a substantial margin, though the vote will remain open.

I'll take the opportunity to prompt people to give some thought to sub-votes on how to act and respond etc. There's currently a popular subvote explaining your reasons, which is perfectly fine and indeed pretty useful to me as a QM, but at present Vincenzo isn't going to take any actual action beyond that. He'll just refuse to swear himself to Ciro and then continue with his coping mechanism of relentless training/physical meditation.

That's a perfectly valid choice and I can work with it, since it essentially minimises the chances of Ciro reacting badly or thinking that you are a threat, but I figured it would be worth pointing out.

I don't think explaining our reasons to Ciro is a good idea right now, with the explanation we're providing. Like, the msot likely responce we should expect, given our stated suspicion of him, is that Ciro starts actively working to kill us. A repeat again that I think a much better idea for an explanation would be in the lines of 'this deal isn't good enough' which would at least prompt Ciro to consider adding on more stuff that isn't 'kill this daemon' i.e actual substantial concessions.

To elaborate on the above further, imagine you are playing CiroQuest right now, and after you get this response from a [X] try to convince the psyker to swear fealty, you get this exchange (or something equivalent):

AltMaugan Ra said:
Vincenzo swallows, blinking rapidly as the circumstances shift beneath their feet. "I… that is no light thing you ask, to be claimed for a single unlife."

"Then name your terms, free man," you say, a challenging look in your grey eyes, "Strike a bargain worth more than a daemon's service, and set your limits appropriately."

What must feel like days pass through Vincenzo's eyes, as thoughts pass through their mind, distrust showing again. Then they come to a conclusion.

"No."

Your eyebrow must have been raised at that moment, and Vincenzo takes that as an invitation to continue.

"You offer me a deal, and in that dealing break another. I shed no tears for the betrayal and slaying of a daemon, yet it is still so."

The tension in the air continued to grew.

"Besides, even if you killed it, it doesn't change a thing. That you make a deal with me does not change the fact that you made a deal with it. Further, your deal with it was a betrayal of these savage folk who have helped us in our time of need."

And grow.

"Your capacity for betrayal is impressive, for an angel of Him."

What do you do next?

I sure know that if I was playing Ciroquest, my responce would be 'uh yeah kill this psyker hates and distrusts us insanely, holy shit do it ASAP before they summon something or do some psychic magic to kill us in our sleep or something'.

Why not? We're already at Ciro's mercy, telling him why we don't like him doesn't hurt us any more and hopefully he can change his actions.

To be clear the "Might as well explain yourself" vote is fine. It's perfectly valid. I'm not criticising the vote, I'm just noting as written people are opting to lay out their grievances and then cede the initiative etc back to Ciro, without taking further action wrt him or any of your other allies.

- [X] You called me a free man earlier, I wish to remain so, which sadly excludes the possibility of binding myself to you.

Should appease him, and if anyone else has a way to improve it I'd be happy to switch over
